Elon Musk’s Twitter promised a purge of blue check marks. Instead he singled out one account | CNN Business

omg u guys I'm still trying 2 figger out wat just happened on twitter 🤯 so Elon Musk is doin this whole blue check mark thing but it seems like he's tryna target one specific account The New York Times and I'm lowkey salty cuz they didn't pay for the verification badges 🤑 and now their account looks all weird but at the same time it makes me wonder if this was just a misdirection aka a way 4 Elon to make more money from Twitter Blue 💸 and btw what's up wit this new label on verified accounts? is it supposed 2 be like "we're verified cuz we paid" 🤔

I'm kinda worried about this whole thing... Like, what's the real motive behind Elon's actions? Is it really just about equality, or is there something more sinister at play? 🤔 I mean, think about it - by singling out The New York Times and its rival publications, Musk is essentially creating a power imbalance on the platform. It's like he's testing the waters to see how users react, and what we're willing to tolerate in terms of our online freedom.

It's also got me thinking about the nature of trust and credibility online. When verification badges are paid for, does it really make them any more trustworthy? Or is it just a marketing ploy to get people to shell out cash? 💸 And what about the users who are already struggling to keep up with their Twitter Blue subs? Do they really need to pay extra to verify their accounts? 🤷‍♀️
