Eye on Africa - Uganda: Battered Barbra Kyagulanyi tells husband Bobi Wine to stay in hiding

Uganda's military chief, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has vehemently denied allegations that soldiers raided the home of opposition leader Bobi Wine's wife, Barbra Kyagulanyi, forcing her into hiding. The brutal assault on Barbra reportedly lasted for several hours, with the intruders choking and mocking her before making off with a ransom demand: where was Bobi Wine?

Eyewitnesses claim that soldiers entered Barbra's home uninvited, leaving her hospitalised and distraught. She had managed to capture evidence of the attack on her phone, but it seems she may have been silenced by the brazen assault.

The situation has left many in Uganda questioning the military's motives and accountability. While Kainerugaba insists that no soldiers were involved in the raid, witnesses paint a disturbing picture of fear and intimidation.

Meanwhile, across Africa, other countries are grappling with similar issues. In Nigeria, 16 officers are set to stand trial for allegedly plotting a coup against President Bola Tinubu. The plot was uncovered after the officers were arrested last year, when speculation about their intentions had already begun circulating.

Nigeria's experience of military power grabs in the past has left its neighbours wary of potential instability. However, Nigeria is now at the forefront of efforts to prevent military coups across West Africa. The country must now confront its own military's actions and accountability.

In eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, the conflict that erupted when the M23 rebels took control of Goma last year shows no signs of abating. One year on from the fall of the city to rebel forces backed by Rwanda, Kinshasa and Kigali remain locked in a bitter dispute over regional stability.

I'm so worried about Barbra Kyagulanyi, she must be really traumatized after that brutal assault on her home... 🤕 I wonder if Muhoozi Kainerugaba is telling the truth or not, can we trust him? 🤔 The fact that witnesses claim to have seen soldiers entering her house uninvited and leaving her hospitalised makes it really hard to believe his version of events.

It's also super concerning that they made off with a ransom demand asking for Bobi Wine's whereabouts... what if something bad happens to him because of this? 😬 I don't think it's an isolated incident, Uganda has been dealing with military issues for a while now. Have they been addressing these concerns properly or just sweeping them under the rug?

In other news, 16 Nigerian officers are going on trial for allegedly plotting a coup... that's so concerning! Nigeria is trying to lead efforts to prevent coups in West Africa, but how effective will it be if their own military can't even follow its own rules? 🤦‍♂️ And the situation in DRC is just getting worse... has anyone tried to help the M23 rebels and Rwanda's government talk things out?

omg what's going on in Uganda?! 🤯 this is so concerning that the military chief is denying any involvement in raiding Barbra Wine's home 🚫💔 I mean I'm all for accountability but it sounds like there's some serious cover-up going on here 🕵️‍♀️. And now 16 Nigerian officers are set to stand trial for plotting a coup against President Tinubu 🤝🏻👮‍♂️ at least that's something the country can take steps towards preventing more instability in West Africa 🌍💪 meanwhile in DRC, it's like a never-ending conflict 💔😩 we need some world leaders to step up and put their foot down on regional stability 😅

🤔 this is getting out of hand... 16 officers plotting a coup? it's like they're trying to set an example for others 🚫 how can you trust someone who's willing to take such drastic measures? and what about the military chief in Uganda, claiming no soldiers were involved in the raid on Barbra Kyagulanyi's home 😒 it's all just too much... accountability is key here 🤝

ugh this is so sad... i'm thinking about barbra kyagulanyi right now 🤕 and i'm literally shaking with anger... how could they do this to her?! 😡 she's just trying to protect herself and her family, and yet these soldiers come in and cause such harm. it's just not right. my heart is going out to her and bobi wine's wife... they deserve so much better than this 🤗 can we please get some justice done for barbra?! 💪

Uganda is really going through some stuff rn 🤕. I mean, allegations of soldiers raiding Barbra Wine's home & forcing her into hiding is just crazy 😱. You can't even imagine being in that situation. And to hear that they might've silenced her by attacking her phone... it's like, what's going on with the military over there? 🤷‍♂️

Meanwhile, Nigeria's trying to tackle its own military issues but it's a whole other ball game. They need to take responsibility for their actions & make sure this doesn't happen again. And then you got the DRC situation... conflict, rebels, Rwanda... it's just too much 🌪️. Can't we all just get along? 😔

OMG, this is getting out of hand!!! I mean, what's next? 🤯 Muhoozi Kainerugaba denying all allegations, like he's some kinda celebrity or something... Newsflash dude: your soldiers are making headlines for all the wrong reasons! 😒 Those witnesses are traumatized and Barbra Kyagulanyi is still reeling from this attack. Can't we just have a peaceful transition of power in Uganda? 🤷‍♂️ The military's motives are shady at best, and accountability is non-existent. It's like they're above the law... or something. This whole situation is a perfect storm of instability and fear. Africa needs to wake up and demand change! 💪
