Family of Queens man shot by cops: We wanted EMS, not NYPD

this is just wrong I mean, come on! they called 911 for medical help and what do they get? police show up instead of EMTs? it's like the dispatcher didn't even listen to them properly... or worse, made a mistake that led to this whole situation. 911 is supposed to be about emergency situations, not immigration checks

this is so messed up , i mean what even happens when you call 911 for help and they end up arresting you instead? the fact that the family specifically asked for medical transport and were misinterpreted as asking for police involvement is just crazy . and then to make matters worse, the officers are questioning them about their immigration status? what does that have to do with anything ? it's not like the family's request was vague or unclear, they said their son wasn't a threat, he just needs help . this is exactly why we need police reform and accountability .

can you believe this? they called 911 like five times and said their son needs med transport, not police but the cops still ended up shooting him like four times! what's going on here?! they even asked for his country of origin while he was lying in the hospital bed like, hello, this is about getting help not asking where your mom is from! and the worst part is, they're still trying to figure out if it was really a police request or not... meanwhile his family is stuck dealing with all this drama and their son is fighting for his life on a ventilator my heart goes out to them

this is so messed up my guess is these cops were just having a bad day and they messed up big time whoever is in charge at the NYPD needs to get their act together it's like, 911, not immigration services or whatever else you need to ask but honestly how hard can it be to just listen to someone who's begging for help and I'm so sorry this family is going through this they shouldn't have to deal with all this drama

And can we talk about how the 911 dispatcher asked for an "involuntary removal response" which basically guarantees both EMS and police will show up? That's just crazy. The fact that the NYPD did ask immigration-related questions to the family, though... that's just not right . It feels like they're trying to cover something up. my heart goes out to this fam ... i cant even imagine how scary and confusing it must be for them right now . the fact that they just wanted help for their son who was clearly in need of medical attention, but got misinterpreted as a threat... it's just not right . and then to have officers ask personal questions about their immigration status? that's just a whole different level of hurt and distrust . the system needs to do better here . what can we even say or do for this family at this moment? all i can do is send my love and support ...
