Fear and blogging (and prerelease laptop testing) in Las Vegas

The Unlikely Hero of CES: Can This Pre-Production Laptop Really Compete?

As a seasoned reviewer, I've had the pleasure of testing countless laptops over the years. But at this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES), I brought a pre-production Asus Zenbook A16 with me to put through its paces. The idea seemed laughable – how could an untested laptop possibly keep up with my demanding workload? Yet, to my surprise, aside from some minor glitches, the Zenbook proved itself to be more than capable.

The A16 boasts a Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme processor, 48GB of RAM, and a massive 2880 x 1800 OLED display. And while I knew I was taking a risk using an unreleased chip, I also knew that this was an opportunity to see just how far Qualcomm's new X2 processors could stretch.

At first, the laptop felt snappy – even when editing high-res images from my Sony A1 camera. The performance was on par with what I've experienced with more established chips like those found in MacBooks. But as the days went by and I continued to push the laptop's limits (I'm talking hundreds of photos shot during CES, multiple appointments, and briefings), things started to slow down.

It wasn't until I got back into the zone after a few hours off from editing that the Zenbook felt like its usual self. Perhaps it was just a case of the familiar workflow kicking in, but whatever it was, it made me realize that I'd been too harsh on the laptop initially.

In the end, my experience with the A16 has left me with more questions than answers. Can Snapdragon X2 processors really deliver performance and battery life comparable to their Intel or AMD counterparts? Only time will tell. And what about gaming – how do these new chips hold up against demanding titles?

One thing is for sure, though: this pre-production laptop may not be perfect, but it's definitely shown promise. Whether Asus can iron out the kinks before launch remains to be seen, but one thing's certain – I'm excited to see what a final review unit has in store.

I gotta say, I think people are gonna be surprised by how well that pre-production laptop holds up 🤯. I mean, we've been led to believe for so long that new tech is always a step forward, but sometimes it's the untested stuff that really breaks the mold 💥. And let's be real, who needs a brand new chip just because it's on the cutting edge? The fact that this laptop was able to hold its own (minus some minor hiccups) against more established hardware is a bold statement 👊. Can Snapdragon X2 processors really deliver like that? Time will tell, but I'm already curious about how they stack up against other powerhouses 🤔.

I think what really stood out to me was how quickly you adapted to the laptop's quirks and found a workflow that worked for you 🤔. It just goes to show that even with untested tech, there's always a way to make it work – as long as you're willing to put in the time and effort 💻. And I'm curious, have you considered what kind of games these new Snapdragon X2 chips might be able to handle? Would love to hear about your gaming experiences on this thing 🎮.

🤔 This new Snapdragon X2 processor is gonna give Intel and AMD a run for their money 🏃‍♂️ Asus took some huge risks with this pre-production laptop and it kinda paid off 🙌 The more I think about it, the more I'm wondering if we were too quick to dismiss these new processors 😐 What's really holding them back? Battery life, maybe? Or is it just a matter of software optimization? 💻 I'd love to see some real-world testing and reviews before making any conclusions 📊

I'm loving the hype around the new Asus Zenbook A16! 🤩 It's always exciting to see a brand like Asus taking risks and pushing the boundaries of tech. The Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme processor sounds like a beast, but I do have some reservations – can it really hold up against those Intel or AMD chips? 😐 Still, I'm stoked to see what a final review unit has in store... fingers crossed they sort out those minor glitches 🤦‍♂️. Maybe we'll get a better idea of how it stacks up against the competition once it's released 💻.

oic... so like this new Asus Zenbook A16 is super fast and all, but only if you're not editing loads of pics or vids at once lol... what's up with that? 😂🖥️ i mean, shouldn't it be able to handle everything? 🤔💻 and what about gaming? can it really keep up with the big boys? 🎮😅

omg i just got back from ces and i'm still reeling from the new asus zenbook a16 lol it was literally blowing my mind how fast it ran and the display was insane 🤯📊 i tried editing all these photos from my sony a1 camera and the laptop kept up no problem 😂 but then i started playing some games and it got kinda laggy i don't know if its just the pre-production model or what but i'm defo keeping an eye out for when its released 👀

idk about these new snapdragon chips... seemed pretty sketchy to me lol 😅 i mean, you're using a laptop with a processor that's still not out yet and it's handling demanding tasks like no problem? sounds fishy 🤔 my experience with gaming laptops has been the opposite - they're always slow and overheating. don't get me wrong, i'm all for innovation and trying new things, but this just feels like a marketing gimmick to me 🤑

I got some major doubts about that Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme processor 😒... sounds like it was only able to keep up for a little while before things started slowing down. What they're not telling us is what's really going on behind the scenes. Is this just a ploy by Qualcomm to get people hyped about their new chip, and then sell them out when the final product comes out? 🤑 I'm thinking there might be some hidden agendas at play here... like, what if Asus was actually paid off by Qualcomm to promote this "superior" processor? 🤝

OMG u guyz 🤯 i just read about this new laptop from Asus and im totally hyped!!! 🎉 Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme processor? 48GB of RAM? 2880 x 1800 OLED display? that sounds like a beast 🤖 for editing pics and playing games, but at the same time its kinda disappointing that it had some minor glitches even with pre-production specs 🤔 i mean, what if its gonna slow down after launch lol, but im all about keeping an eye out for innovative tech so fingers crossed Asus can iron out the kinks 👍

the sad news is that even with a powerful processor like Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme, pre-production laptops still have major flaws 😐. i mean, who wants to spend their money on something that's not yet tested properly? and lets be real, editing hundreds of photos can really put a strain on any laptop's battery life... that thing probably needs some serious battery life just to make it thru the day 📊. and gaming? forget about it, we're still talking pre-production tech here 🤖. guess we'll have to wait and see how these new chips hold up against the competition... not holding my breath 🙅‍♂️.

I gotta say, 48GB of RAM is just crazy! 🤯 Like, who needs that much ram? My kid's gaming laptop only has 16 and it handles everything fine. I'm curious if this thing will really be able to handle all the demands you threw at it. And $2000+ price tag?! 😱 That's just crazy for a pre-production model! What if Asus can't get it right in time? Would that make it obsolete already? 🤔

omg that sounds like such an underrated chip 🤯! 48GB of ram is insane lol, and i'm not surprised it felt snappy at first. the only reason i wouldn't be hyped yet is because those glitches were annoying 😩. i mean, can you imagine having to deal with lag while editing photos all day? not cool. gaming performance tho? that's a whole other story 🤔👀

I dont really get why laptops need so many settings and options... like, cant they just have like 3-4 and thats it? 😂 also, whats with the battery life? i mean, i know its not meant for daily use but how long would it last on a short trip to the beach or something? my phone usually lasts me like 12 hours easy 📱🏖️

🤔 Honestly, I think I was way too lenient on that pre-production laptop 🙅‍♂️. I mean, it did feel snappy at first, but like the reviewer said, things started to slow down after hours of intense editing 📸. And 48GB of RAM? That's just overkill 🤯. Can't say I'd trust a laptop that can handle so much power out of the box 💻.

But on the other hand, I'm also kinda curious about those Snapdragon X2 processors 🤔. Like, how do they really stack up against Intel or AMD? 🤷‍♂️ And if Asus can iron out some bugs before launch, that'd be awesome 🎉. Maybe I was too harsh on the laptop initially 😬. Guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens next 📺.

im loving this new gen of laptops esp the ones with snapdragon chips 🤩 they got so much potential! i mean yes there were some minor glitches but its not like the laptop just completely failed me. and can u believe the display? 2880 x 1800 oled is straight fire 🔥 i'm def curious to see how it performs in real world usage tho, no idea what to expect from gaming with this new processor 💻

I gotta say, I'm genuinely impressed by this pre-production laptop. Like, who expects a laptop from CES to be this smooth? Snapdragon X2 processor is definitely a game-changer 💥, and the display is gorgeous 📱. But at the same time, it's a bummer that it was kinda slow when I was editing for hours straight 🤯. Maybe they just needed a warm-up period or something?

I think what really got me thinking is how this laptop performed on everyday tasks – browsing, email, all that jazz 📊. It's like, yeah, I can already see myself using this thing daily 😎. But gaming? That's still up in the air 🤔.

I'm curious to know if Asus can squash those minor glitches and make this laptop a contender for real 💪. For now, it's definitely got some serious potential 🔥

I don’t usually comment but... thought this laptop was crazy to test pre-production and I gotta say it was pretty impressive for its price! The display is insane 😲 and the performance was on par with my old MacBook Air when it was new 📈. Not too shabby considering it's still experimental tech. The only thing that worried me was how it handled gaming, but at least Asus didn't claim it was a console-level beast or anything 😅. Overall, I'm curious to see what the final version has in store and if Asus can keep up with the competition 💻.

I gotta say, 48GB of RAM is just plain crazy lol 💥 this stuff would make my gaming rig obsolete! But seriously, if they can get the performance and battery life right, it could be a game changer for mobile users. Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme processor sounds like some future tech right now 🔥 but at the same time, I'm not surprised Qualcomm is pushing the boundaries. Those Intel chips are already getting phased out, so it's only natural they'd try to innovate. My main concern is gaming, though – can these new chips handle demanding titles without dropping frames? 🤔
