Federal Agents Keep Invoking Killing of Renee Good to Threaten Protesters in Minnesota

Federal agents in Minneapolis are using the threat of violence to intimidate protesters following the killing of Renee Good, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer. They have repeatedly invoked Good's death during confrontations with protesters, which many interpret as a veiled threat aimed at scaring people away from demonstrations.

According to Phil Maddox, a local resident who recorded a video of the incident on Sunday, agents told him that if he continued to follow them, they would "shoot" him. The agent added that those who did not learn their lesson after Good's death were being targeted by law enforcement.

"This is a classic situation of overreacting, over-policing, and ultimately using excessive force," said Andrew G. Celli Jr., an attorney specializing in police misconduct and constitutional rights. "It's tragic but predictable that the reaction has been as strong as it has been."

The use of deadly force by ICE officers has sparked widespread outrage in Minneapolis, with thousands of agents deployed in phases as part of a massive immigration crackdown. The deployment of federal agents has led to clashes between protesters and law enforcement, with agents using tear gas, pepper spray, and other tactics to disperse crowds.

Protesters have been accused of impeding the efforts of federal agents, but filming police is not a crime. However, many are facing arrest or harassment for simply exercising their constitutional right to record law enforcement in public places.

The Intercept reported that hundreds more federal agents were deployed to the region on Sunday, adding to the over 2,000 agents who made up the surge that began on January 6.

"This is not hyperbole," said Ben Messig, The Intercept's editor-in-chief. "We have a president with utter contempt for truth aggressively using the government's full powers to dismantle the free press."

The Intercept has long covered authoritarian governments, billionaire oligarchs, and backsliding democracies around the world. In this most perilous moment for democracy, The Intercept is fighting back, but it needs the support of its readers to continue doing so effectively.

πŸ€” gotta ask, what's next? They're already using violence to silence protesters, and now they wanna crack down on journalists too? It's like they think we're all just gonna roll over and let them do whatever they want... Newsflash: the media's not going down without a fight. We need more outlets like The Intercept holding these powers in check. If you care about freedom of speech, become a member today πŸ“°πŸ’ͺ

I'm tellin' ya, this is gettin' outta hand 🀯. These agents are actin' like they're tryna scare people off from speakin' out against ICE's policies. It's all about keepin' the status quo and no one's gonna rock the boat 🚒. The fact that they're usin' deadly force and threatenin' innocent bystanders is just ridiculous 😑. And don't even get me started on the whole filming police thing – it's like, you can't even record law enforcement without gettin' harassed or arrested πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. The Intercept is doin' some good reporting here, but we need more people to support 'em so they can keep exposin' the truth πŸ’ͺ.

🚨 This whole thing is just wrong 🀬. They're using threats to silence people who are just trying to hold ICE accountable for Renee Good's death. It's like they think they own the streets and anyone who disagrees with them should be scared off, not protected by the law. Newsflash: it doesn't work that way! 🚫 You can't bully your way out of accountability. The fact that filming police is being turned into a crime is just another symptom of how out of control these agents are. We need to stand up for our rights and support organizations like The Intercept who are fighting against this kind of abuse of power πŸ’ͺ

omg i cant even believe whats happening rn in minneapolis 😱 federal agents are literally using violence as a threat to intimidate protesters and it's just so messed up 🀯 like renee good was an ice officer but that dont mean ppl gotta be scared into silence πŸ—£οΈ news outlets are saying this is classic police overreach and its kinda scary how much power they think they have πŸ’β€β™€οΈ i personally cant even record cops on my phone without getting harassed 😳 how r we supposed to hold those in power accountable if we cant document the truth πŸ“Ί

🚫 They're really trying to scare people away from protesting, and that's just not right... πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Law enforcement should be protecting everyone's rights, not intimidating them into silence. The fact that they're filming protesters and arresting them for exercising their 1st amendment rights is just another example of how out of control things have gotten. It's like, if you can't handle the truth or a little bit of free speech, then maybe you shouldn't be in law enforcement. πŸ™„

🀯 This is getting crazy! I mean, Renee Good's death is tragic enough, but using violence as intimidation tactics? That's just wrong 🚫. These agents are basically saying "you might get hurt if you don't shut up" - it's not about keeping people safe, it's about controlling the narrative πŸ’¬.

And can we talk about how ridiculous it is to arrest people for filming police in public places? πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ I mean, what's next? Arresting people for breathing? 🌫️

The Intercept article highlights just how out of control this situation has gotten. I'm all for free press and holding those in power accountable, but come on, someone needs to call BS on this πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ.

πŸ€• this is just getting outta hand 🚫..ICE agents using violent threats against protesters? what's next? they're basically trying to silence people with guns and tear gas... it's not even about the protests anymore, it's about controlling who gets to speak out πŸ—£οΈ. news organizations are fighting for truth & free press, while law enforcement is getting out of control πŸ’₯. how can we trust our government when they're using such tactics? πŸ˜•

.. I'm still trying to process what's happening in Minneapolis 🀯. These federal agents are just scaring people with their threats and using excessive force... it's just not right πŸ˜•. As someone who values free speech and the right to record public officials, it's frustrating to see protesters being harassed or arrested for doing their job πŸ’”. The government needs to find a better way to handle these situations instead of resorting to intimidation tactics 🀝. And can we talk about the state of our democracy? It feels like we're seeing more and more authoritarian behavior from our leaders, which is just alarming 😬. Anyway, I'm definitely supporting The Intercept with their mission to hold those in power accountable πŸ’ͺ

man i'm literally shaking thinking about what's happening in minneapolis 🀯 they're using good old fashioned intimidation tactics on protesters and it's just soooo messed up 😑ICE officer's death is tragic but come on law enforcement is being super aggressive here πŸ’£ all these federal agents deployed and protesters getting arrested for filming police πŸŽ₯ it's like they're trying to suppress the truth or something πŸ€” can't believe The Intercept is having to cover this stuff and needs our support to keep doing their thing πŸ™ please help them keep fighting for democracy πŸ‘Š

Ugh, what's up with these federal agents? They're literally using threats of violence to silence protesters. Like, come on! Filming police is not a crime, but they're still arresting people for it. And the fact that they're deploying hundreds more agents to intimidate us isn't helping either πŸ™„. I get that Renee Good's death was tragic, but you don't have to use excessive force and veiled threats to deal with protesters. It's just not cool πŸ˜’. The Intercept is right though, our president seems to be going all out against truth and the free press, and it's getting scary 🀯.

Ugh, I'm getting seriously concerned about what's going on in Minneapolis right now... πŸ€• Those federal agents are taking things way too far, you know? Using threats of violence and intimidation to silence protesters? It's just not right πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ.

I mean, I get it, the death of Renee Good was a tragedy and all, but do they really have to make an example out of people like this? Filming police in public isn't even a crime! It's our right as citizens to record what's going on, you know? πŸŽ₯

And don't even get me started on the whole "you're either with us or against us" vibe that's coming from law enforcement. That's just not how it works, guys πŸ™„. You can't just deploy thousands of agents and expect everyone to roll over without a fight.

I'm worried about the state of our democracy right now, honestly πŸ€”. We need more critical journalists like The Intercept holding those in power accountable, but they need our support to keep doing it πŸ’ͺ.

Can we please just get back to having open and honest discussions about these issues instead of resorting to threats and intimidation? 😩

πŸ€” I don't trust these new 'security measures' being implemented in Minneapolis. Using threats to intimidate protesters is not the answer. It's like they're trying to silence people from speaking out against something that clearly needs attention. 🚫 And what's with all the extra federal agents? Is this just another case of 'over-policing'? Newsflash: protests aren't always violent, and filming police in public isn't a crime. If you can't handle a few peaceful protesters recording their interactions with law enforcement, maybe you should rethink your tactics. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ This whole situation reeks of an overzealous government trying to maintain power. It's not exactly reassuring that they're willing to use force and intimidation to keep people in line... 😬
