Football abuse: Premier League and WSL stars targeted by death and rape threats

I mean, what's next? These posts on X were pretty bad, especially the ones making racist monkey emojis towards black players. 90% drop in abusive content at Arsenal is a good start but we need more . Chelsea women's boss Emma Hayes seems kinda accepting of it now, like it's just part of the game? "It comes with the territory now"? That doesn't sit right with me . I don't think players should have to deal with that kind of stuff. And what about the police not taking action due to lack of evidence? That's still a problem . Signify is doing some good work, but we need more from X and the Premier League too .

man this stuff is wild think about it like what does it even say that someone's willing to go to those extremes just cuz of a game? we're all human beings on these platforms but somehow it's okay for them to take it out on the players?

and you know what really gets me it's not just the posts that are the problem, it's the whole culture that lets this stuff slide. like emma hayes says it comes with the territory now but I think we need to ask ourselves if that's really true or if we're just letting it happen because we don't know how to handle it.

the platforms can do more, no doubt about it but what does that even look like? and what about football clubs? are they doing enough to support their players on and off the pitch?

Ugh, can you believe the state of social media nowadays?! I mean, I remember when you could just have a debate with someone without being told it's "online abuse" and "you're being rude". Back in my day... ... we had to deal with actual racism and sexism, not just people being salty because they didn't win a match. And now, it's like everyone's a victim!

I'm all for keeping our girls safe, but come on! A few monkey emojis here and there is just part of the game, you know? And rape threats? That's just disgusting. But at the same time, 90% drop in abusive content after working with Signify for three years? That sounds like a win to me!

I think what bothers me is that it's becoming so easy to just report someone and have them removed without any real consequences. I mean, what does that even do? It's not like the person who sent the threat is actually going to face any real repercussions. It's all just a bunch of virtual slap on the wrist.
