Gaza: Israeli strike kills five, including two children, says civil defence agency

At least five people, including two children, have lost their lives in an Israeli strike on Palestinian territory in Gaza. The Gaza Civil Defence Agency confirmed that the attack hit a shelter camp near the Kuwaiti field hospital in Khan Younis, resulting in multiple casualties. According to the agency, the victims included five citizens, with the youngest being an eight-year-old child and another ten-year-old. Over 32 people were also injured.

The Israeli military initially claimed it had targeted a Hamas militant in southern Gaza as a response to clashes between Palestinian militants and soldiers. However, the hospital stated that the five fatalities did not include the alleged target, but rather innocent civilians caught in the crossfire. The hospital's statement contradicts the official narrative provided by Israel, suggesting a possible discrepancy.

This incident occurred amidst an already fragile ceasefire agreement brokered by the US, which has largely halted the fighting between Israel and Hamas since its implementation on October 10th. However, both parties have accused each other of violating this truce, with accusations flying back and forth.

Eyewitnesses report that "very heavy artillery shelling took place from occupation vehicles east of Rafah city, along with heavy gunfire from warplanes." An Israeli helicopter was also seen in the area, according to a security source. It is reported that Israel has killed over 40 militants in operations targeting tunnels near Rafah since last week.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed concerns about the Israeli military operation in Gaza, stating there were "strong reasons to believe" war crimes had been committed. He described the operation as having a "total neglect in relation to the deaths of civilians and destruction of Gaza."

The recent Gaza conflict began with Hamas's attack on Israel on October 7th, resulting in over 1,200 Israeli fatalities. However, Israel has carried out an extensive retaliatory assault on Gaza, causing the deaths of at least 70,000 people, according to figures from Gaza's health ministry.

Ugh 🤕, I'm so sick of the way this news is presented. Can't we just get the facts straight for once? The hospital saying it wasn't targeting Hamas and the eyewitness accounts saying heavy artillery shelling and gunfire... it's like, come on! 🙄 The Israeli military's story doesn't add up at all. And now the UN Secretary-General is basically calling out Israel for war crimes? That's not exactly subtle. 😒 I mean, can we just have a straightforward report without all the back-and-forth between Israel and Hamas? My head hurts trying to keep up with it all. 🤯

man this is getting insane 🤯 the numbers are just crazy like 70k+ lives lost already and it's only been a week or so since the fighting started... how can one side do that many casualties on another? 💔 I'm also wondering if there's some truth to that hospital saying the 5 people who died weren't even the ones Israel said they targeted 🤔, doesn't sound like a very accurate report to me...

😩🌪️ just read that at least 5 people including 2 kids got killed in an Israeli strike on Gaza 😢 and over 32 others were injured 🤕 it sounds like the ceasefire agreement is still as fragile as a house of cards 🏠💥 Israel's saying they targeted a Hamas militant but the hospital says it was civilians caught in the crossfire 🤷‍♂️ and now the UN chief is all like "hey, maybe you guys did commit war crimes" 😬 what's going on with this situation? 💔

This is just so sad 🤕 what can be done to stop all these senseless killings? I mean, innocent kids and adults losing their lives... it's just not right. The US is trying to broker a ceasefire, but everyone's accusing each other of violating the truce... how can that even work?

I don't know about the military operation in Gaza, but I do think it's crazy that Israel has killed so many people already since last week... like over 40 militants and thousands more civilians. And now this latest strike killing at least five people including two kids? It's just awful.

The UN Secretary-General is saying there might be war crimes committed, which makes me really worried. Can't we all just try to live in peace? I mean, what's the point of having a ceasefire if it's not being respected?

I'm so confused about everything... who's right and wrong, who's fighting who... it's all so complicated. And the numbers are insane... 70,000 people dead in Gaza already? It's just heartbreaking.

😱 just saw this news and i'm totally shook. another innocent life lost in a war zone... can't believe israelis are saying it was a hama militant but the hospital is saying otherwise 🤦‍♂️. ugh, how many lives gotta get caught in between these 2? 🙅‍♂️ Gaza's already fragile ceasefire and now this? 😩 what's goin on?? 🤔
