Gophers football: Texas Longhorns nab another U pledge

Texas Longhorns Poach Another Twin Cities Recruit, Third This Fall

In a blow to the Gophers football program, three-star running back Jett Walker has flipped his commitment from Minnesota to the University of Texas. The 6-foot-2 and 215-pound recruit was initially pledged to Minnesota after flipping from West Virginia in November.

Walker's decision comes on the heels of another recent defection by Portage, Michigan tight end Charlie Jilek, who also chose to join the Longhorns last week. Jilek had initially committed to Minnesota before switching his allegiance to the SEC school.

In a social media post announcing his decision, Walker wrote "Staying Home!!", hinting at his desire to stay close to home and play for the in-state school. The loss is another significant blow to the Gophers' 2026 recruiting class, which now totals 30 commitments.

The early signing period begins on December 3, and it's clear that the Longhorns are making a strong push to build a competitive team in the years to come. With Walker joining Jilek at Texas, the program is building momentum as it looks to regain its footing in the Big Ten conference.

OMG, didn't you guys see this coming?! πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ Texas has been trying to poach those Twin Cities recruits for years, and they finally got their man! I mean, Jett Walker's decision is super believable since he did say "Staying Home!!" 🀣. The fact that Charlie Jilek made the same move just last week shows how desperate UT is to build a strong team.

I'm not surprised the Gophers are struggling with recruiting right now; they've had some major losses in recent years. It's gonna be interesting to see how P.J. Fleck responds to this blow πŸ€”. Meanwhile, it looks like Texas is finally getting their act together under Steve Sarkisian... maybe they'll actually make a splash in the Big Ten conference for once 😏!

🏈πŸ’ͺ gotta feel for minnesota gophers πŸ€• they're getting roasted in recruiting rn πŸ“‰ three stars in a row and it's like they're giving away their picks πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ maybe they should reevaluate their coaching staff or something πŸ‘€ walker's comment about staying home is pretty cool i guess 🏠 texas longhorns are on fire πŸ”₯ but at the end of the day, gotta give it to jett walker he's making a smart move for his future πŸ’Έ

Oh man, it sounds like Minnesota is getting the old switcheroo treatment πŸ˜‚ - first they get poached by West Virginia, then another recruit jumps ship for UT and now this guy's all about staying home? 🀣 I guess that means Jett Walker wants to be part of the 300-pound party on campus in Austin... just kidding, he's only 215 pounds... but still, it's gonna be an interesting season for those Gophers! 🐰πŸ’ͺ

.. I was watching some old vids of my fave MN Gophers games from like 2015 🏈 and they were killin' it back then... now they're losin' recruits left and right... it's like the whole team is just runnin' through the Longhorns... πŸ€” Texas seems to be gettin' all these big-name players and I'm worried about what this means for the Gophers... 30 commitments? That's a lot of pressure on those young guys... 😬 they're gonna have to step up their game if they wanna stay competitive in the Big Ten... 🀞

Wow 🀯 , can't believe another recruit snatched from Minnesota's grasp! This kid's commitment to stay close to home makes total sense, but still gotta feel bad for those Gophers coaches trying to build a winning team on a shoestring budget πŸ’Έ. Interesting how the Longhorns are swooping up talent like Jett Walker and Charlie Jilek... must be something attractive about that Texas brand! 🀠

Ugh, can't believe the Gophers just got ripped off AGAIN πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ! Like, third recruit this year and they're already at 30 commitments? That's not even a decent class, if you ask me πŸ€”. I mean, Minnesota always seems to lose out on these big fish, it's like they're not even trying πŸ’β€β™€οΈ. Walker was a huge get for Texas, no wonder he flipped - the Longhorns are killing it this recruiting season πŸ”₯! The Gophers need to step up their game if they wanna be competitive in the Big Ten πŸˆπŸ‘Ž

I'm really frustrated with Minnesota Gophers recruiting right now πŸ˜’. First, Charlie Jilek jumps ship and then this kid Jett Walker does the same thing. It's like they're trying to sabotage their own team! 🀯 They already had 30 commitments and now it's down to 29... it doesn't make sense. Texas is just being super aggressive with their recruitment, I get that but come on Gophers! Get your act together! πŸ’ͺ At least Jilek was upfront about his decision in a social media post, that takes some guts, Walker just kept it vague and "staying home" yadda yadda... πŸ™„ Texas is building momentum for sure, can't say I'm surprised. Maybe they'll be able to get the team together and have a good season next year? Fingers crossed! 🀞

ugh, another big win for UT πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ I mean, they're like getting away with stealing recruits 😏 no offense to Minnesota, but it's tough to compete with UT's football program. the 3-star RB Jett Walker is a solid pickup though! 215 pounds of pure Texas speed πŸ’¨ and he chose staying home 🌹 which I guess makes sense for him... but what about his teammate Charlie Jilek? is he gonna make an impact on the team or just collect a paycheck 😐

I'm telling ya, the way recruiting works nowadays is crazy 😲. I remember when players just stuck with their school and played for 'em, no drama. Now it's all about personal preference and staying close to home, like Jett Walker said. "Staying Home!!" - that's a first. 🀣 What's next? Players making their own uniforms and everything? πŸ˜‚

omg texas is like getting away with stealing recruits all year πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸˆ they're so aggressive with those full ride offers πŸ€‘ and Minnesota's recruiting class just got hit hard πŸ˜” 30 commitments and now Jett Walker flips? that's like 3 in a row... what's going on at the Gophers' program? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

OMG u guys!!! so i was just chillin on twitter and saw that Jett Walker flipped from minnesota to texas 🀯 like what even happened here!!?! he literally said "staying home" but i'm pretty sure he's not talking about staying in his hometown lol. i mean who needs the twin cities when u can have big texan vibes, right? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈπŸŒ… anyway, this is just another nail in the coffin for those gophers and their recruiting class πŸš«πŸ’” 30 commitments?! what's going on over there?? πŸ™ƒ meanwhile, texas is building a team and i'm here for it πŸ’–πŸ‘

omg y'all can't believe what just happened with jett walker?? texas just got another recruit and it's like they're trying to build a whole new team lol meanwhile minnesota's 2026 recruiting class is basically done πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ i feel bad for the gophers fans tho, gotta support their team even when they're losing some good recruits. still, texas is on fire right now and it'll be interesting to see how they do next season πŸ’₯🏈

πŸ€” I think it's kinda crazy how one kid can make such a huge impact on another team's recruiting class... 30 commitments already and they're still losing kids left and right πŸ“‰ I've got two grandkids who love sports, and this is something that always blows their minds – how teams can poach each other's best players. It's like, you try to plan for your future, make decisions about where you want to go to school, and then someone from a different state comes along and changes everything πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ Still, I guess it's all part of the game, and if Texas can build that momentum, they might be onto something... πŸ‘€

OMG u guys! 🀯 So like I just saw this crazy news about Jett Walker committing to UT Austin and I'm SHOOK 😲 He was supposed to play for Minnesota but chose to stay close to home...I get it, family matters etc. But still, that's a big loss for the Gophers πŸ€• I've been following this recruiting class and now they're down to 30 commitments? That's like, not good at all πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ I mean UT Austin is on fire right now, getting these top recruits...it's gonna be interesting to see how the Big Ten shakes out next year πŸ‘€

omg, u guys, texas longhorns r on fire rn!! πŸš€ they just poached another recruit from minnesota, and now they've got 2 more from minny & michigan 🀯 i mean, jett walker's decision to stay home made sense, but still its sad for the gophers πŸ˜”. texas is def making a strong push to rebuild their program & become a big contender in the big ten πŸˆπŸ‘€. 30 commitments already and they're just getting started? πŸ’₯ gotta keep an eye on this one...

Texas is on fire πŸš’! They're like a tornado for Minnesota's football recruits this fall - first it was Charlie Jilek and now Jett Walker is heading their way too! I mean, who can blame them? The Longhorns are getting a solid boost with all these in-state talents joining their team. It's like they're building a new identity for themselves in the Big Ten πŸˆπŸ‘Š With 30 commits in the 2026 recruiting class, Texas is definitely making some noise and it'll be interesting to see how Minnesota recovers from these losses πŸ’₯
