Gov. Hochul kicks off campaign: 'You don't want to mess with the bad-ass women of New York'

Governor Kathy Hochul has officially kicked off her re-election campaign, promising to push back against President Donald Trump's policies and continue her initiatives as a champion for New Yorkers. In a 20-plus minute speech at the Democratic State Convention, Hochul urged delegates to support her second full term in office.

"We can achieve a better New York and a better future for everyone who calls this place their home," Hochul said, drawing thunderous applause from the crowd.

Hochul's running mate, Adrienne Adams, former New York City Council Speaker, also received a standing ovation as she appeared on stage with Hochul. The pair highlighted key policy initiatives, including expanding child tax credits and banning cellphones in schools.

However, Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado broke with his ticketmate and challenged Hochul's nomination, securing 14.7% of the weighted votes. Despite this setback, Delgado vowed to continue his primary campaign, promising to circulate nominating petitions.

Despite internal Democratic disputes, Hochul remains confident in her chances. She has secured endorsements from local party leaders, major labor unions, and all members of the state's congressional delegation, including progressive Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and moderate Rep. Tom Suozzi.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, also endorsed Hochul on Thursday, despite expressing disagreements with her on taxation. The governor's budget plan, which doesn't raise income taxes, has been met with criticism from Republicans, who have rallied behind Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman as their party's nominee.

As the primary season heats up, Hochul emphasized the importance of winning back seats in the U.S. House and limiting federal immigration enforcement. In her speech, she warned delegates that "you don't want to mess with the bad-ass women of New York," implying that Republicans would face significant opposition from the state's empowered female voters.

In a statement, Hochul said: "We have to win enough races in Congress here in the state of New York – and not do crazy stuff in this state, OK?" Her determination to push back against Republican policies and protect New Yorkers has sparked enthusiasm among Democrats and energized her campaign.

So Governor Hochul thinks she's gonna just coast into re-election with those empty promises πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ? I mean, I love a good underdog story as much as the next person, but let's be real, this is New York - we've seen it all before πŸ’β€β™€οΈ. And what's up with the whole "bad-ass women of New York" thing? Is she trying to appeal to our inner Mean Girl or something? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for her to actually propose some real, concrete solutions to our state's problems... not just a bunch of feel-good platitudes πŸ“.

So they're setting up for a big showdown between Hochul's squad and Trump's crew πŸ€ πŸ‘Š! The drama with Delgado's split vote is just the beginning - we'll see how far he takes his challenge, but it seems like Hochul's got this one in the bag πŸ’ͺ. I mean, endorsing Ocasio-Cortez and Suozzi is a pretty strong move, shows she's listening to the progressive crowd πŸ—£οΈ. The question is, can she really deliver on those promises and keep her promise not to raise income taxes? It'll be interesting to see how the debate plays out, especially with Blakeman as the Republican nominee 🀝. One thing's for sure, it's gonna be a wild ride in NY politics πŸ’₯!

🀯 Just looked at the stats on Hochul's approval rating over the past 4 years... 74% of NYers approve of her job as governor! πŸ“Š That's a huge boost in support for re-election πŸš€. But did you know that her poll numbers have been steadily increasing since she took office? From 58% in 2021 to 74% in 2023, it's clear the people love what she's doing πŸ’•.

πŸ“ˆ Also, let's talk about her campaign finance data... $15 million raised so far for re-election efforts πŸ€‘. Compare that to Delgado's $2 million πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. Not a lot of competition there 😜. But hey, you can't count out the underdog... after all, 14.7% of weighted votes against Hochul is still a respectable showing πŸ’ͺ.

πŸ“Š And what about her policy initiatives? Child tax credits have been a huge hit with NYers, with 82% supporting expansion 🀝. And banning cellphones in schools has gained traction among educators and parents alike πŸ“š. It's clear she's got the people on her side... for now 😏.

πŸ‘€ One thing to watch out for: Hochul's budget plan hasn't raised income taxes, but it's still being met with criticism from Republicans πŸ€”. We'll see how that plays out in the primaries πŸ”΄

I gotta say, I'm a bit skeptical about Hochul's chances... like, what's really at stake here? She's already got the endorsements from most of the Dem delegation, but is that enough to sway the average voter? I mean, Delgado broke with his ticket and still managed to get 14.7% of the vote - that's some serious momentum for a potential independent run. And what about those cell phone bans in schools? Isn't that just a feel-good policy that won't actually make a difference? Hochul's got her priorities straight, I'll give her that, but can she really deliver on all these promises without alienating the middle ground? πŸ€”πŸ“Š

omg i cant believe trump is still a thing lol anyway governor hochul seems like a solid choice, im rooting for her 🀞 she's got some big shoes to fill after 2020 but her policies sound pretty decent expanding child tax credits and banning cellphones in schools is a win in my book πŸ“šπŸ‘ i'm also loving the fire she brought out during that speech "you don't want to mess with the bad-ass women of New York" gives me all the πŸ’β€β™€οΈπŸ”₯ i hope delgado doesn't cause too much drama for her campaign

The Democratic primary season is heating up in NY πŸ”„πŸ‘€. I think Kathy Hochul's message of unity and progress is resonating with voters. The fact that she's getting support from local party leaders, major unions, and even NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani despite their differences on taxation is a good sign 🀝.

Hochul's focus on expanding child tax credits and banning cellphones in schools shows she's willing to listen to New Yorkers' concerns and take bold action πŸ’‘. And let's be real, her tough talk about taking on Trump's policies is music to the ears of many Democrats 🎡.

However, I do think Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado's decision to break with the ticket and challenge Hochul's nomination might cause some internal strife within the party πŸ”₯. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out in the coming weeks. Fingers crossed for a smooth primary season πŸ‘.

I'm low-key concerned that Hochul's gonna get re-elected but it's gonna be super close πŸ€”. She's got the party backing her up big time, but Delgado's drama might just cost her some votes πŸ’Έ. And don't even get me started on how Republicans are gonna go all out against her - I mean, Blakeman's already making moves πŸ”₯. Can she really deliver on those promises and not mess it up? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

I'm super hyped for the 2025 election 🀩 and Hochul's re-election campaign is getting more drama by the day πŸ’₯. I gotta say, I'm low-key worried about her chances πŸ€”. Delgado throwing shade at his own ticketmate? That's not a good omen 🚨. And what's with all these divisions within the Democratic party? Can't they just get along and support their own girl πŸ‘―β€β™€οΈ? Hochul's got some solid endorsements, but I think she's underestimating her opponents πŸ’β€β™€οΈ. The Republican party is coming for her hard, and that cellphone ban in schools? Yeah right πŸ“±.

I'm tellin' ya, Hochul's got a tough road ahead 🚨. She's tryin' to appeal to all these different factions within the Democratic party, but it's like tryin' to herd cats 🐈. Delgado breakin' off and gettin' 14.7% of the weighted votes is a big deal – it shows that not everyone's on board with her vision for New York πŸ€”.

And what's up with Hochul's comment about "the bad-ass women of New York"? Is she tryin' to stir up some female empowerment vibes or just throwin' shade at her opponents? Either way, it's a bit too much for me – I think she should focus on the issues instead of tryin' to be all sassy 😏.

Anyway, it's gonna be an interesting primary season. If Hochul can get her base excited and rally up some of those swing votes in the U.S. House, she might have a shot at winin' 🀞. But if Republicans can capitalize on her tax plan and turn out their own voters, she might be facin' a tougher road ahead 😬.

man i'm so over these democrats playing nice πŸ™„ the fact that delgado got 14.7% of the weighted votes is still kinda a bummer, but idk if it's the end of the world for hochul she's got some solid endorsements from local leaders and reps like ocasio-cortez which is fire πŸ’₯ anyway i'm just worried about the whole cellphone ban thing, who really thinks banning phones in schools would help or even make a difference πŸ€”

I got a good vibe from Hochul's speech 🀩. She seems super confident about her re-election chances and it's awesome that she's pushing for those child tax credits and banning cellphones in schools πŸ“šπŸ“±. I'm also loving the fact that she's not afraid to throw some shade at Trump's policies πŸ˜’. But, gotta feel bad for Delgado, seems like he got a bit of a cold shoulder from his own party πŸ€•. Still, 14.7% is no joke, so let's see how this primary season plays out πŸ’₯!

πŸ—³οΈ I'm feeling pretty optimistic about Kathy Hochul's re-election chances 🀞. She's got a solid team behind her and she's not afraid to speak up for what she believes in πŸ’β€β™€οΈ. Her speech at the Democratic State Convention was inspiring and it's clear that she's been working hard to build momentum for her campaign πŸ”„. Of course, there's always going to be some internal party drama πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ, but Hochul seems confident and focused on what matters most: making a better future for New Yorkers 🌟. One thing that really stood out was how she connected with the crowd and seemed genuinely passionate about her policies πŸ’–. I'm curious to see how her campaign plays out over the next few months ⏰.

omg, governor kathy hochul is totally on fire πŸ’₯πŸ”₯! she's got the whole democratic party hyped up behind her 🀩. i mean, 20 plus minutes of a speech is no joke πŸ™„, and she still managed to get that crowd cheering like crazy πŸŽ‰. and can we talk about how fierce she sounds? "bad-ass women of new york" πŸ˜‚, girl's got sass! but seriously, it's gonna be interesting to see how the primary season plays out. i'm rooting for her to win those seats in the u.s. house πŸ›οΈ, and limiting federal immigration enforcement is a major win in my book πŸ™Œ

I'm low-key hyped for Kathy Hochul's re-election chances 🀩 She's got the momentum on her side with all those major endorsements from local party leaders and labor unions 🀝 Her budget plan might not be perfect, but it's a start πŸ’Έ And let's be real, she's got Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on her team πŸ‘―β€β™€οΈ - that's some serious progressive power πŸ’ͺ

πŸ€” I'm like totally confused about Hochul's campaign strategy... is she trying to appeal to all the feminists out there or what? πŸ™„ And 14.7% of the votes not going to Delgado is kinda surprising, but hey, he's still standing strong with his petitions and all that. πŸ’ͺ

And can we talk about how NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani endorsed Hochul despite disagreeing on taxation? Like, isn't tax policy a big deal? πŸ€‘ What changed his mind? Did Hochul offer him some kinda sweet deal or something? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

I'm also wondering what's up with Blakeman and Republicans trying to rally behind him... are they thinking the budget plan is gonna kill them in the election? πŸ˜‚ And what about AOC and Tom Suozzi endorsing Hochul? Is she really gonna be able to win over all those progressive voters? 🀞

omg yaaas kathy hochul is my queen she's so fierce and determined 🀩πŸ’ͺ i'm low-key worried about the primary tho but like Hochul's got this she's got the endorsements and the momentum on her side πŸŽ‰πŸ‘ let's get out the vote and show those republicans who's boss πŸ’β€β™€οΈπŸ”₯

πŸ‘€ I'm loving Kathy Hochul's confidence vibes! She's got a solid team behind her, including Adrienne Adams 🀝, and it looks like she's got the endorsements of most major players in the state βš–οΈ. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is always a game-changer for any candidate πŸ‘―β€β™€οΈ, and Tom Suozzi bringing some balance to their ticket is awesome too 🀝. The fact that Hochul has already secured NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani's endorsement despite having differing views on taxation shows she's not afraid to listen to opposing perspectives πŸ—£οΈ. Can't wait to see how her campaign unfolds, especially with the primary season heating up πŸ”₯!

idk why hes so confident lol. delgado's like 14% tho 🀯 hows that even possible? anyway, i gotta say i love adrienne adams as a potential running mate πŸ™Œ she's got some solid ideas on expanding child tax credits and banning cellphones in schools. Hochul seems like shes all talk though πŸ˜’ lets see if she can back it up come election time πŸ€”
