Governor gives update on West Virginia guardsman hurt in DC attack

West Virginia Guardman Makes Slow Progress After DC Shooting, Governor Offers Update

Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe, a 24-year-old West Virginia Army National Guard member, is slowly healing from his head injury sustained in a shooting incident in Washington D.C. last week. According to Gov. Patrick Morrisey's statement, Wolfe's condition has improved, and he "is beginning to look more like himself."

Wolfe was one of over 2,000 troops deployed to the nation's capital as part of President Donald Trump's crime-fighting initiative. He and another guard member, Spc. Sarah Beckstrom, were ambushed on November 26 while patrolling a subway station near the White House. Beckstrom died the following day.

Rahmanullah Lakanwal, a 29-year-old Afghan national who was also shot during the encounter, has been charged with murder and is pleading not guilty. Wolfe's family has received support from Senator Shelley Moore Capito, who has held a picture of Wolfe at a news conference.

Wolfe is expected to remain in acute care for two to three more weeks. Gov. Morrisey has asked West Virginians to continue praying for his recovery. A vigil was planned for Friday night at Wolfe's alma mater, Musselman High School in Berkeley County.

The governor offered words of encouragement and support for Wolfe's family, noting that Trump shared a photo of their family standing around him during a meeting in the Oval Office. Surgeons treating Wolfe have described him as a "miracle" and expressed confidence that he will live.

OMG 🀯 this is crazy!! I mean, can you even imagine being in their shoes?! 😩 Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe was just doing his job & then BAM! He gets shot & has to deal with the aftermath πŸš‘πŸ’‰. And poor Spc. Sarah Beckstrom, rest her soul πŸ’”. I'm sending all my positive vibes for Wolfe's recovery - it's a miracle he's even still alive πŸ™! Two more weeks in acute care is a long time, but at least his family has Sen Moore Capito looking out for him πŸ™Œ. And did you see that pic of Trump with Wolfe's fam? Nice touch, POTUS πŸ‘!

🀞 this is some crazy stuff going on with Sgt Wolfe... so he's making progress but like 2-3 more weeks to recover? that's a looong time... i wonder what the docs think is gonna take to get him back to full strength πŸ€” and btw, who needs a vigil at his high school when you got the whole nation praying for him 😊 at least it's good to see Sen Moore Capito stepping up to support the fam πŸ’• hope Wolfe makes a full recovery soon πŸ™

OMG 🀯 just saw the update on Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, that West Virginia guy who got shot in D.C πŸ—½οΈ so relieved to hear he's getting better slowly but surely πŸ’ͺ I feel bad for his fam tho, it's been a tough week for them πŸ˜” hope he makes a full recovery soon and can head back home to WV mountains ❄️

so slow progress is good now? πŸ™„ like, seriously though, can't they just give him some actual updates instead of saying he's starting to look more like himself? what does that even mean? did his hair get better? 🀣 btw, 2k troops deployed for a crime-fighting initiative... sounds like a total waste of resources if you ask me. and what's with the Afghan national getting charged with murder already? feels kinda rushed πŸ•°οΈ

πŸ™πŸ’ͺ this whole thing is just so sad, especially since another soldier lost her life πŸ’” Spc. Beckstrom was only 25 and had her whole life ahead of her 🌟 now we're stuck with the harsh reality of war & guns βš”οΈ and it's just not right 😒

man this story is so somber πŸ€• but it's also got me thinking about resilience, you know? Sgt. Wolfe is literally fighting for his life and yet he's still holding on to hope... that's the kinda strength we all need when things get tough. and let's not forget about the support system - his family, Senator Capito, even strangers like us who are reading about it online... we can't be more human than that πŸ€—. it just goes to show that even in darkness, there's always a glimmer of light if you know where to look. btw, two weeks feels like forever for someone going through this, but I guess that's the thing about time - it keeps moving whether we like it or not ⏰.

ugh, i'm still trying to wrap my head around this - slow progress is kinda better than no progress, right? 🀞 2 weeks is like, forever for someone in critical care, you know? anyway, it's nice that the gov is being supportive and all, but can we talk about the layout of the article tho? it's kinda clunky and hard to follow... they should've broken up the paragraphs more with some sweet subheadings πŸ“„πŸ’‘ i mean, i get it, it's a serious topic, but even in tragedy, good formatting is key πŸ’”

just saw this news about Sgt Andrew Wolfe 🀞 his recovery is super slow but the docs say he's getting better...like, who even is Rahmanullah Lakanwal tho? πŸ™„ anyway, I'm glad there are people like Sen Shelley Moore Capito supporting Wolfe's fam πŸ€— and btw, 2k troops in DC? what's going on over there?? πŸŒ† can't believe it's only been a week since the shooting πŸ’” need to keep praying for Sgt Wolfe's speedy recovery πŸ’•

just saw this update on Sgt. Andrew Wolfe 🀞... slow progress but grateful to hear he's getting better πŸ™. feels bad for the family of Spc. Sarah Beckstrom πŸ’”, always think of the soldiers putting their lives on the line πŸ’ͺ. hope Sgt. Wolfe recovers fully and gets back home soon ❀️.
