Green Day to Play Super Bowl Opening Ceremony Celebrating 60th Anniversary of NFL's Big Game

Green Day Set to Rock Super Bowl 60 Opening Ceremony, Celebrating Big Game's 60-Year History

In a move that's sure to stir up some Bay Area nostalgia, the NFL has announced that punk rock legends Green Day will be performing at this year's Super Bowl opening ceremony. The band, known for hits like "American Idiot" and "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)," will take the stage at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, on February 8, as part of a celebration marking the championship game's 60th anniversary.

The East Bay trio is thrilled to be opening the big game for fans around the world, with lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong stating, "We are super hyped to open Super Bowl 60 right in our backyard! We're honored to welcome the MVPs who've shaped the game and open the night for fans all over the world. Let's have fun! Let's get loud!"

The NFL is also honoring its rich history with this performance, which will feature past Super Bowl MVPs walking the field as Green Day plays a medley of their hits. According to Tim Tubito, the league's senior director of event and game presentation, "Celebrating 60 years of Super Bowl history with Green Day as a hometown band, while honoring the NFL legends who've helped define this sport, is an incredibly powerful way to kick off Super Bowl LX."

This performance marks one of several high-profile events planned for Super Bowl weekend in San Francisco. On February 6, Green Day will be performing at Pier 29 on the Embarcadero with Counting Crows, and will also take part in the halftime show on February 8.

Other performers lined up for the big game include Bad Bunny as the halftime performer, Charlie Puth to sing the National Anthem, Brandi Carlile to perform "America the Beautiful," and Coco Jones to deliver "Lift Every Voice and Sing." With Green Day leading the charge, Super Bowl 60 is shaping up to be a celebration of music, sports, and community that will leave fans cheering for more.

omg i cant wait for super bowl 60 🀩 but like why do they have to play american idiot so loud?? my ears get hurt just thinking about it lol i need some earplugs or something idk if im gonna make it to the halftime show tho... is that where bad bunny is performing?? can we get a preview of his setlist tho?! i love his music and i know he's gonna bring the energy 🎀 what do u guys think green day's performance is gonna be like? r they just gonna play their usual songs or are there gonna be some special surprises?!

I'm so stoked about this news 🀩! I mean, who wouldn't want to see Green Day rock out at the Super Bowl? They're like, one of my favorite bands ever! And it's even cooler that they're from my hometown (well, kinda) and are celebrating their own Bay Area roots. The idea of past MVPs walking onto the field while Green Day plays is just genius πŸ€“. It's gonna be such a fun and energetic opening ceremony. I'm already counting down the days till February 8! πŸŽ‰

omg 🀩 green day is going to rock super bowl 🎸🏈 i'm so down for this πŸ’₯ it's gonna be lit πŸ”₯ billie joe armstrong is the man πŸ‘Š and performing with a medley of their hits will get the crowd jumping 🌟 the nfl is really getting the vibe right πŸ’― and having past super bowl mvp legends walk the field will add to the nostalgia πŸ•°οΈ can't wait for feb 8! πŸŽ‰

I don't get why they had to go with Green Day lol πŸ€”. I mean, who thinks it's a good idea to book punk rock at the Super Bowl? It's gonna be so out of place. And what about all those people who aren't into that genre? They're gonna be stuck in the middle of a bunch of mosh pits and screaming kids πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. I'm hoping for some more pop or rock artists to get the party started instead, you know? Something a little more mainstream. This whole thing just feels like they're trying too hard to be edgy πŸ’β€β™‚οΈ.

man i'm so done with how super bowl sunday is turning into a total spectacle 🀯 it's all about the glitz and glamour now instead of just the game itself. like what's next? having a full-on concert at the stadium and calling it a 'ceremony'? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ newsflash: its just football, folks!

i mean i'm not complaining that green day is getting to perform or anything - they're awesome! but come on, can't we just have a simple pre-game show without all the frills? and why do we need multiple performances throughout the weekend? it's just gonna be overwhelming for everyone πŸ™„

I'm gonna be honest, I love this move by the NFL 🀘! Getting Green Day on board as part of the opening ceremony is pure gold. It's gonna bring so much energy to the game and really capture the spirit of the Bay Area. I mean, who wouldn't want to rock out to "American Idiot" at Super Bowl 60? 🎸 The fact that they're honoring the league's history with a hometown band is just perfect. And it's awesome that other legendary artists are lined up for the halftime show too. This year's event is shaping up to be an unforgettable experience for fans everywhere! πŸ‘

idk about this super bowl thing... they're gonna make us all watch a bunch of rich people playing football while green day's just gonna play their hits like american idiot and good riddance... it's all so scripted... πŸ€”β€β™‚οΈ

i wonder why the nfl chose bay area legends like green day to perform at super bowl 60... is it because they're trying to make us think this whole thing is about celebrating sports and music or something? no way, it's gotta be more than that...

have you noticed how all these performers are from california? what's going on here? πŸŒ΄πŸ’Έ

anyway, green day's gonna bring the energy at super bowl 60, but i'll still be over here watching from my couch with a healthy dose of skepticism... πŸˆβ€β™‚οΈπŸ€”

omg i'm literally freaking out!!! green day is coming back to california and performing at super bowl 60 lol they're my all time fave band and this is like a dream come true 🀩 i've seen them in concert like 5 times already but i would def wanna see them again 🎸 cant wait for the halftime show on feb 8th and the medley of their hits sounds amazing!!! i love billie joe armstrong he's so cool 😎

.. think about it, Super Bowl 60 is all about nostalgia & celebrating the past, but is that really what we're doing? We're getting caught up in the hype & the excitement of a big game, but are we truly honoring our history or just trying to relive the good old days? I mean, sure, Green Day's gonna bring the energy & get us pumped up, but at what cost? Are we losing ourselves in the moment or remembering where we came from?

And then there's this whole thing about the NFL honoring its rich history... that's a pretty interesting dynamic. They're celebrating their legends, but are they really learning from them or just paying tribute to the past? It's like, what does it mean to be part of something bigger than ourselves?

Super Bowl 60 is gonna be lit, no doubt about it 😎, but let's not forget to dig a little deeper & ask ourselves some tough questions πŸ€”.

omg i just got back from the most amazing road trip with my fam πŸš—πŸ˜Ž we drove through the pacific coast highway and saw the most stunning beaches in cali πŸ–οΈ i was thinking about how much i love road trips and how they're like, the perfect excuse to leave your phone behind and just enjoy the moment πŸ“±πŸ’¨ anyway back to green day... i mean i'm so stoked they're playing at the super bowl but have you ever tried acai bowls for breakfast? i swear my body is 100% fueled and ready for anything now πŸ“πŸŒΏ

OMG 🀩 I'm so stoked that Green Day is gonna bring some serious energy to the opening ceremony of Super Bowl 60! 🎸 It's gonna be lit πŸ”₯ especially with Billie Joe's vocals bringing those nostalgic vibes 🎢 I love how they're incorporating their hits and also paying homage to past MVPs walking on the field. It's like a big ol' party πŸŽ‰ and I'm here for it 😁 Can't wait to see the halftime show too, Bad Bunny is gonna bring some serious heat πŸ”₯!

omg i'm so stoked 🀩 that green day is gonna rock super bowl 60 opening ceremony!!! it's like they're taking over santa clara in their own special way 😎 i mean who wouldn't want to see them play "american idiot" and "good riddance" live at levi's stadium? 🏟️ billie joe armstrong sounds so hyped to be back in the area too, it's like they're putting on a hometown show for us bay area folks 🎸 i think it's gonna be an epic way to kick off super bowl 60 and set the tone for an amazing weekend of music and sports 🏈🎡
