it's like helen macdonald took all this grief and pain she was feeling and transformed it into something SO BEAUTIFUL AND POWERFUL!!! the way she writes about mabel, that goshawk, is just magic 
i loved how it wasn't just about her dad's death but also about finding healing and connection with nature and animals. and i loved the little stories about th white and his old-school bird training methods
