Halloween in NYC will be dry but windy, clear skies and cool temps for marathon

New York City's Halloween celebrations are set to take on a distinctly autumnal tone, with dry but gusty winds expected to sweep through the five boroughs this weekend. Clear skies will dominate the forecast, providing an ideal canvas for witches and ghouls alike to cast their spells.

However, weather enthusiasts won't be breathing a sigh of relief just yet – strong wind gusts are predicted to reach as high as 40 miles per hour, making it a less-than-ideal day for flying broomsticks. But with lighter breezes in store for trick-or-treaters on Sunday, it's clear that Halloween spirit will prevail.

For those planning to tie down outdoor decorations or other loose items, meteorologist Matt Wunsch advises taking precautions against the wind's wrath. "It'll be dry," he warned, "but it'll be windy – and a few light items could take flight."

After a spate of showers expected on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday, clear skies will return by early Friday morning, with the gusty winds picking up as the day progresses. Temperatures will hover in the mid-50s to low 60s throughout the weekend, with Saturday still experiencing some residual wind.

But Sunday's forecast is looking decidedly more pleasant – clear skies, lighter breezes, and seasonable temperatures in the mid-50s are on tap for New Yorkers eager to take part in the city marathon. With Hurricane Melissa expected to be a distant memory by the time it moves north, residents can breathe a collective sigh of relief and focus on making their mark at this year's event.

omg I was literally planning on flying my drone with LED lights attached this weekend 🚀💡 but now I'm like "nah, not worth the risk" lol 40mph winds are crazy! hope all the spooky decorations make it through tho 🎃👻 those gusty winds might ruin someones Halloween vibes though 🤦‍♀️

ugh, Halloween in the city is so much fun but those winds are gonna ruin someones decorations 🤦‍♀️... like what if that spider web decoration just flies away and never comes back? 🕸️ can't wait for Sunday tho, hopefully it's breezy enough to make flying broomsticks a thing again 😅

Ugh, Halloween in NYC is going to be so chaotic! I mean, I love the whole vibe, but who thought it was a good idea to have strong wind gusts that high? It's gonna be tough for people with decorations, especially if they're not secure. And flying broomsticks? More like flying trash cans 😂. Can't they just get some decent weather forecasting going on? I swear, every year it's either too hot or too cold... or in this case, too windy.

ugh i love halloween in nyc!!! 🎃💨 but those gusty winds are gonna make me wanna stay indoors with my cozy blankets and hot cocoa instead of hitting the streets for trick-or-treating lol! 🍫👻 anyway, sounds like sunday is looking up though - perfect weather for a marathon 🏃‍♀️👟 hope everyone has a blast at the city marathon 🎉

ugh I hate wind day 🌬️... just kidding lol. seriously tho, 40 mph winds are kinda crazy for Halloween decorations. I guess we have to be careful and tie them down so they dont fly away 😂. but overall I'm still super hyped for the Halloween celebration in NYC this weekend! clear skies will make it perfect for trick-or-treating and parties 🎃🕷️. can't wait to see all the creative costumes and decorations too 🤩.

ugh dont forget ur porch lights 🕯️ or they'll just fly away into the wind lol i mean who needs that kinda stress on halloween? and yeah its gonna be pretty chilly 2 b so bundle up ppl 👍 but seriously cant wait for sunday tho, all clear skies & breezy vibes sound like a perf night 4 trick-or-treating 😊

You know, I'm more excited about Halloween than the actual weather forecast 😊. I mean, who needs perfect skies when you've got witches and ghouls running around? But seriously, those strong wind gusts gotta be careful with outdoor decorations 🎃💨. Don't want anything flying off and causing damage or hurting someone. On a lighter note, it's awesome that the city marathon is happening on Sunday – can't wait to see all the runners in their Halloween costumes 👟🏃‍♀️. Weather or no weather, Halloween spirit is gonna prevail! 🎉

I feel you... all that prep work for Halloween decorations just waiting to get blown away 🌬️😩. I'm sure it's not ideal, but let's keep the spirits high (pun intended)! Focus on making the most of Sunday and having a blast with family & friends 🎃👫. Don't stress too much about the wind, it'll pass soon 💨.

Ugh, I hate flying broomsticks 🧛‍♀️ anyway... but seriously, 40mph winds? That's crazy! 🤯 I was thinking of taking my kid trick-or-treating in Central Park, but now I'm not so sure... we'll just have to see how it goes. I guess the good news is that it'll clear up by Sunday, so we can still enjoy the rest of Halloween 🎃. Do you guys think parents should be more worried about their kids' safety when it's windy outside?

man, have you ever thought about how our perception of weather can impact our experience of holidays? like, Halloween is all about embracing the spooky and supernatural, but when it's windy and dry, it feels more like a gloomy day than a magical one 🌫️... but at the same time, I guess that wind could also bring out some really cool decorations if they're not tied down 😎... and yeah, taking precautions against the wind is just part of being prepared for life, you know? 🤔

Man, have you ever stopped to think about how our perception of autumnal weather affects our experiences? Like, when we're expecting gusty winds, we're already in a bit of a state of unease, right? But then clear skies come along and suddenly Halloween feels like this magical time. It's like the wind is just testing us, you know? Can we make it through this spooky season without our decorations getting blown away?

And I'm really looking forward to Sunday, though - it's like the universe is giving us a little break from nature's drama. Lighter breezes, clearer skies... it's almost as if we can finally relax and enjoy the Halloween spirit. But then you think about all the things that could still go wrong, even with the best planning and precautions taken.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, sometimes life is like that - unpredictable, but still, we gotta make the most of it, right? Even when the winds are howling, we've just got to find a way to ride them out.

I'm so down with the idea of Halloween celebrations in NYC taking a more autumnal vibe 🎃🍁... but wait, dry winds are gonna make flying broomsticks kinda sketchy 😬? Like, I get it, wind can be harsh, but still, who's gonna stop witches from flying if they wanna? And on the other hand, windy days might just make outdoor decorations go flyin' high 🎊... no, scratch that, I really don't want my spider web door decoration takin' off into the wild blue yonder 😂. But seriously, with clear skies comin' back by Friday, it's all good, right? 🌞... unless those gusts get too crazy, then things might get hairy 💨. And hey, at least Sunday's forecast looks pretty sweet for the marathon – a chill breeze and mid-50 temps sound perfect for runnin' in costume 🏃‍♀️👗!

I'm not sure I'd say Halloween spirit is gonna prevail if you've got loose outdoor decorations just begging to fly away 🤯 40mph wind gusts are no joke, especially when they're dry and gusty - it's a recipe for disaster! And with the winds picking up as the weekend goes on, I think we should all be taking precautions rather than relying on lighter breezes on Sunday. Those outdoor decorations might be cute, but safety first, you know? 😊

🎃😂 So I guess that means we're gonna have a real 'blast' of wind this weekend... get it? Blast? Like witches flying around? Okay okay, I'll stick to my day job 🤣. Seriously though, I hope all those outdoor decorations don't end up as 'sweeping' away the competition 💨😂. Can't wait for Sunday, though - maybe we'll even see some 'ghostly' runners show up to that marathon? 👻🏃‍♀️. And on the bright side, it's not like New York City can handle a little wind, right? I mean, it's still gonna be windy enough to blow away those pesky tourists... just kidding! 😉

Ugh I'm so done with these weather forecasts 🙄. Can't they just make up their minds? First, dry winds expected to sweep through NYC on Halloween weekend... then it's a few light items could take flight? What's the point of even having a forecast if it's just gonna change every 5 minutes?! And don't even get me started on the marathon on Sunday - clear skies and lighter breezes are fine for runners, but what about all the poor souls who have to deal with outdoor decorations blowing away in the wind? 🤦‍♀️

aww man, poor halloween decorations gonna get blown away 🌬️😩... hope everyone gets that sorted out in advance! but yay for clear skies on Sunday 🌞👻 - gotta love the spirits keeping it alive despite those gusty winds 💫💕

I'm so stoked that NYC is getting this Halloween vibe goin' 🎃😄. I mean, who doesn't love the spooky atmosphere and all the rad decorations? But ugh, wind gusts of 40mph? That's like, a total buzzkill for all the witches flyin' around on broomsticks 🧙‍♀️😂. Still, I'm low-key excited to see how everything turns out this weekend. The mid-50s temps sound pretty perfect for trick-or-treaters and partygoers alike. Can't wait to see all the creative costumes and see what everyone's got planned! Did anyone else get a chance to check out that cool NYC Halloween light display last year? 🤔

u guys gotta chill lol, like its gonna be windy outside but halloween spirit is all about the vibes, not the wind 🌪️💨. yeah, maybe dont leave those outdoor decorations out in the open, dont wanna see them flying away like a broomstick ⚡️. but seriously, clear skies on sunday will be perfect for trick-or-treating and that city marathon, so make the most of it! 👍

omg u guys Halloween vibes r still gonna shine thru tho w/ust wind & all but idk how much more ppl wnt 2 deal with flying broomsticks lol 😂 but for real tho gotta get ur outdoor decorates secured b4 it gets wrecked n matt wunsch is literally the best 🙌 clear skies on sunday tho!!! can't wait 2 see all the costumes & have a epic halloween 🎃
