Kamala Harris is Rebranding Her Online Presence as "Headquarters"
In a significant move, former US Vice President and 2024 Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris has relaunched her old social media account 'Kamala HQ' under a new name, simply "Headquarters". The revamped platform aims to become an online organizing project for next-generation campaigning, with over 1 million followers on X (formerly Twitter) and more than 5 million on TikTok.
In contrast to conservative efforts in building permanent organizing infrastructure, Harris' initiative seeks to create a different approach. According to a press release from the new group, "Headquarters is the end of that cycle." The organization now plans to post on various platforms including Substack, YouTube, and others.
Harris recently embarked on a second leg of her book tour for her best-selling memoir, focusing more on discussing what she believes needs to change next. Although she has stepped out of politics temporarily, Harris has left the door open to another presidential run.
The new project will be headed by Harris as chair emerita, with a group of advisers and operatives drawn from both her campaign alumni and People for the American Way. The posts on Headquarters will not have editorial oversight from Harris but rather from her team and People for the American Way.
