Hedda review – Ibsen transposed to world of pencil moustaches and tea dresses

OMG yaaas I'm so down for a production like this!!! 🤩 it's about time we talk about racism in the film industry, it's been going on for ages! I loved Pearl Chanda as Hedda, she's got so much depth to her performance. The way they portray institutionalized racism is SO accurate, I've definitely experienced it myself 😱. The chemistry between Chanda and Rina Fatania is like WHOA 💖. But omg the pacing issues are so frustrating 🙄 it feels like they're just telling us what's going on rather than showing us. And Lenny's character could've been so much more complex if Jake Mann had spent a bit more time developing him 😔 still though, this adaptation is totally important and I'm glad it's out there!!! 👏

I gotta say, I'm loving how Tanika Gupta is using her platform to tackle some heavy stuff... but, like, can we talk about the pacing issue for a sec? It feels like they're trying to cram in all these complex themes and emotions without really letting them breathe 🤔. I mean, Hedda's character is literally a masterclass in subtlety, but her arc feels kinda rushed, you know? And don't even get me started on the way Shona is just... there 😒. Like, hello, she's more than just a prop, right? Anyway, kudos to the cast for bringing the drama and to Hettie Macdonald for trying something new 🎭

🤔 I feel like the pacing of this play is where it falls a bit flat (pun intended). The whole "pencil moustaches and tea dresses" vibe is so on point though 🕺 - it's like they're trying to say something about class and societal norms, but sometimes it feels like we're just getting a bunch of fancy costumes instead of real substance. Still, I love that the play is tackling racism in the film industry, it's so necessary! 😊 And Pearl Chanda's performance as Hedda is giving me LIFE 💥

I just caught up on this thread 🤦‍♀️, what a fantastic production! I loved how they brought to life the complexities of Hedda's dual identity and the way it unravels her carefully constructed world. The chemistry between Chanda and Fatania was electric 💥, and Mann's portrayal of Lenny was so nuanced, it felt like you could cut through his facade and into his tortured soul 🤕.

But yeah, I can see how pacing issues might make the whole thing feel a bit flat at times 😐. Still, the more I think about it, the more I realize just how timely and thought-provoking this production is 💡. It's like they're shining a light into all these dark corners of our history that we'd rather forget...but maybe that's what makes it so important to confront them head-on 🌟
