‘His & Hers’ Review: Netflix’s Murder Mystery Is A Major Letdown

"His & Hers" on Netflix falls flat with its generic mystery framework, unengaging characters, and absurd plot twists.

A murder mystery series starring Jon Bernthal and Tessa Thompson promised much but ultimately delivers a lackluster experience. The show's premise, centered around the story of an estranged married couple dealing with grief after losing a child, starts off promisingly. However, as it progresses, the focus shifts away from a single protagonist to a convoluted plot involving two lead characters whose reliability is constantly called into question.

The inclusion of Anna Harper's troubled high school past serves as a supposed catalyst for the murders unfolding in Dahlonega, Georgia. But this angle feels borrowed from HBO's "Sharp Objects" and doesn't quite work as well here. The tension that makes "Sharp Objects" so compelling is noticeably absent, replaced by an underdeveloped mystery that fails to deliver.

The acting, particularly Bernthal's portrayal of Jack Harper, becomes increasingly erratic as the series progresses. His character's impulsiveness and unhinged behavior feel like a crutch for lazy writing rather than a genuine attempt at psychological complexity. Meanwhile, Anna is a paper-thin caricature with motivations that are consistently baffling.

As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that "His & Hers" has no idea what kind of murder mystery it wants to be. The investigation falters under Jack's inept detective work, and his wild accusations raise questions about his character's credibility. Anna's characterization is similarly opaque, making her difficult to connect with.

The finale's twists are laughable in their implausibility, rendering the entire series' buildup feel like a waste of time. With subpar dialogue, phoned-in performances, and an amateurish script, "His & Hers" is an easy skip for Netflix viewers. Those looking for a solid murder mystery should instead opt for "Sharp Objects," "Lupin," or "Giri/Haji" on the streaming platform.

I was really hyped to see Jon Bernthal and Tessa Thompson in "His & Hers", but it feels like they're wasted in this generic mystery framework 🤦‍♂️. The plot twists are ridiculous and the characters are so unengaging, I couldn't care less about what's happening 😒. And don't even get me started on the acting - Bernthal's character is just a mess of erratic behavior that doesn't make sense at all 🙄. I mean, I like Tessa Thompson too, but here she's just a prop with no depth or development 🤷‍♀️. The whole show feels like it's phoning in and relying on cheap plot devices to try and keep us guessing 👀. And that finale? Forget about it... 😂

🤔 I was really hyped for this show but it fell flat 🚮. The mystery framework just didn't hold up and the plot twists were straight out of a 'whodunit' movie 🎥. I mean, I get it, grief can be a real killer 😴, but couldn't they've done better with the execution? 👎

🤔 I gotta say, I was really hyped for "His & Hers" but it totally fell flat for me 😐. The show had a good premise but it just didn't deliver in terms of mystery and character development 🕵️‍♂️. Jon Bernthal's performance was alright but his character's erratic behavior felt like it came from a script that couldn't make up its mind 🤷‍♂️. And Anna Thompson's character, man... she was just kinda there 😐. The plot twists were so ridiculous I'm surprised they didn't win an award for worst plot in a show 🏆. Overall, if you're looking for a solid murder mystery, keep looking Netflix, this one ain't it 😐.

i gotta say i was really hyped to watch his & hers on netflix but after 3 episodes i was like 'meh' it just didn't do it for me 🤔 the whole mystery thing felt so generic and predictable, like something i've seen before. i also didn't get what made anna's character so interesting she just seemed like a random plot device to me 🚫 and jon bernthal's performance was kinda meh too 🎭 the only reason i kept watching was because i wanted to see how the story would unfold but honestly it just got boring 💤

I'm so underwhelmed by "His & Hers" 🤷‍♀️ it's like they took every generic mystery trope and mashed them together into a mess. I get that the whole grief-of-lost-child thing was supposed to be deep, but honestly it feels like just an excuse for the plot to go off the rails 🚂 the writing is all over the place and the characters are more frustrating than relatable

Jon Bernthal's Jack Harper is literally the only decent part of this show, but even his acting can't save it from the lazy writing 😩 and Anna's character... I don't even know what to say about her 😕 she's like a cardboard cutout with no actual motivation or development

I mean, if you're looking for a good murder mystery on Netflix, just stick with "Sharp Objects" or "Lupin" trust me 👍

🤔 I mean, come on, who thought it was a good idea to make a whole show about two characters with sketchy pasts and then have them be the ones investigating themselves? 🙄 It's like they took all the tropes from other shows, threw 'em in a blender, and hit puree. The plot is so convoluted, I swear I'm still trying to figure out who did what to whom... or if it was even anyone at all? 😴 And don't even get me started on Jack's detective skills – like, dude, you're not exactly solving crimes with your bare hands here. 🤦‍♂️ The acting is just meh too, I mean Bernthal's got some great roles under his belt, but this one's a snooze fest. Overall, I'd say "His & Hers" is a solid pass – unless you're a die-hard Jon Bernthal fan or something 😅

🤔 I gotta agree with this review... I mean, I was expecting more from "His & Hers". The premise did sound intriguing at first, but it just didn't deliver. The mystery framework felt like a generic template that got lost in itself. And don't even get me started on the plot twists - they were so ridiculous, I was like "um, what?!" 😂 I also think the characters were pretty underdeveloped. Jon Bernthal's acting was okay, but it wasn't enough to carry the show. It feels like Netflix is trying to churn out another generic murder mystery series without putting in the effort to make it stand out. 🤦‍♂️ If you're looking for a good whodunit, I'd definitely recommend checking out some of those other shows on Netflix... 👍

I gotta defend Jon Bernthal here 🤔 I mean, have you seen him in The Punisher? He's all about intense and complex characters 😂 But, I guess some people just didn't connect with his vibe in His & Hers. I thought he brought a depth to Jack that the show needed, even if it was sometimes a bit... unhinged 🤪 And Tessa Thompson is talented as hell, her character may not have been fleshed out but she still had some great moments 😎 The plot twists might be laughable for some but I think they were meant to be surprising and keep you on the edge of your seat 💥

I think what bothers me about this show is that it shows us how not to write a good mystery series 🤔. It's like they took all the clichés from the genre, threw them in a blender, and hit puree. The main issue I have with "His & Hers" is that it tries to make its characters too complex, but ultimately ends up making them unrelatable and hard to root for. It's like we're supposed to care about these people so much that we'll follow their convoluted storylines no matter how ridiculous they get 🚫. The real tragedy here is that a show with such an interesting premise gets lost in its own incompetence 💔.

🤔 I gotta say, I was really hyped for "His & Hers" but it just didn't deliver. The whole "estranged married couple dealing with grief after losing a child" vibe had some promise at first, but as soon as they started introducing all these random plot twists and characters, my brain just went into overdrive trying to keep up 🤯. And don't even get me started on the writing – it felt like every twist was coming out of left field without any real build-up or logic behind it. I mean, who comes up with a murder mystery that's basically just a bunch of wacky coincidences and convenient plot holes? 😒 The acting wasn't bad, but when you're dealing with such weak writing, it's hard to elevate the whole thing 🤷‍♂️.

ugh I'm so disappointed in this show 🤷‍♀️ it feels like they took every cliche from other mysteries and mashed them all together, but failed to actually create anything compelling. I mean, what's with Jack's character being a total loose cannon? it's just lazy writing 🙄 and the plot twists are literally laughable 😂. and don't even get me started on how they handled Anna's character... she's basically just a prop for the "troubled past" thing that doesn't even make sense in the context of the show. I was expecting so much more from Jon Bernthal and Tessa Thompson, but this is just a mess 🚮

I don't think Netflix needs to rehash the same formula over and over, it's just so... predictable 🤯. I mean, come on, a murder mystery series about an estranged couple dealing with grief? That's been done better elsewhere. And what's up with the 'twist' ending that's just cringeworthy 😂? The whole thing feels like they were trying to fit too many puzzle pieces together and it ends up being all messy and disappointing. 1/10 would not watch again 👎

I gotta say, I was hyped for this show at first, thought it had all the ingredients of a killer series (pun intended 🤣), but honestly, it just didn't deliver. The whole "estranged married couple dealing with grief after losing a child" setup is cool, but it's executed in such a generic way that it feels like we've seen it before. And don't even get me started on the plot twists - they're literally laughable at this point 🤦‍♂️. I mean, I love Jon Bernthal as an actor, but his character here is just a mess. It's like the writers took all these cool ideas and just phoned it in. And the mystery itself? Forget about it 🚫. I'll stick with "Sharp Objects" or "Lupin" any day of the week 👍

I'm really disappointed in 'His & Hers' 🤔 I mean, the idea of a grieving couple dealing with loss is so promising, but it just didn't come together for me. The plot twists were super random and felt like they came out of nowhere 🌪️. And don't even get me started on the acting - I love Jon Bernthal, but his character felt like he was just phoning it in 😐. Anna's backstory was supposed to be the thing that made her a more interesting character, but honestly, it just didn't land for me 🤷‍♀️. The whole show just felt like it was missing its focus and it ended up being a pretty underwhelming experience 📺. Maybe I'll watch one of those other shows you mentioned tho 😊

I'm really disappointed in this new show... I was so hyped when I saw the trailer 🤦‍♂️. But now that it's out, I just don't get why they didn't go with a better storyline. The whole thing feels kinda fake, like they're trying to copy someone else's idea and just can't pull it off 💔. And can we talk about how annoying Jon Bernthal's character is? He's supposed to be all brooding and stuff, but he just comes across as whiny 🤯. I mean, I've seen better writing on a Twitter thread 😂.

I gotta agree with this one... 🤔 The whole show just felt like it was missing something, and I think it's because they tried to cram too many ideas into it. Like, come on, a murder mystery that's also got a personal grief story going on? It sounds great in theory, but the execution just didn't work out for me. And don't even get me started on how predictable everything was 🙄. I mean, I guessed most of the twists about halfway through and it was pretty much downhill from there.

And can we talk about Jon Bernthal's character? 😒 He's like a wild card who just goes off the rails at times. It's like they wanted to make him this lovable, brooding character but it just came across as whiny instead. And Tessa Thompson's character is basically non-existent for most of the show. Like, I get that she's got some depth in her past or whatever, but we never really see any of it.

Overall, I think "His & Hers" was a great idea that just fell flat due to poor writing and acting 🚮. If you're looking for a solid murder mystery, there are so many better options out there on Netflix 📺.
