Ugh, this is just another scary story to add to the list of why I think our immigration system needs a complete overhaul 
. I mean, what's up with these guys at ICE? Detaining someone with a valid visa just because they're on their way to an academic conference? It sounds like a case of profiling gone wrong. And $45 billion for more detention centers and deportation officers? That's just insane 
. We need to be supporting our universities and academics, not making it harder for them to come here and share their expertise. And what about the impact on innocent families and colleagues who are left wondering why someone like Abedini is being targeted? It's all so frustrating

some ppl just try to do their job with visa & everything but noooo gotta throw in detention 
and now this prof is being treated like a criminal 
Vahid Abedini is not some secret agent, he's a dude who teaches Iranian studies 
and has a valid visa, can't he just attend the conference without all this drama? 
️ despite having a valid visa... what's going on with the US immigration system? 
it's like they're trying to pick and choose who gets let in or not, but without any clear reason or process. 
and now he's stuck in limbo while ICE is investigating (yeah right). 
this whole thing just reeks of heavy-handedness and abuse of power... and for what? so the administration can show off their tough-on-immigration act?
