I'm loving this - 40 yrs is old but still active . What's crazy is how one person (Jeremy Poynting) started something that's now helping diverse voices get heard. The fact that they had to go through so many rejections for Monique Roffey's book just shows how important it is to give underrepresented authors a chance. It's awesome that Peepal Tree Press has been able to spot talent and nurture it, but also that they're not afraid to challenge traditional notions of writing. This is what makes the literary world more interesting and representative .
I'm not sure about all this fuss over Peepal Tree Press... they're just printing books and paying authors, right? Don't get me wrong, I'm glad someone's keeping it real for Caribbean writers and whatnot, but is 40 years too long to be publishing the same stuff? Can't we just switch to audiobooks or something? And don't even get me started on this "diversity" thing... can't everyone just write about whatever they want without having to justify it? I mean, what's wrong with a good ol' fashioned mystery novel like everyone else?
