In defense of the “dumb redneck” defense

I'm so done with artists giving us an easy way out . Like Jelly Roll saying he's not the man to ask about politics just 'cause he hasn't watched enough is just a cop-out. He knows more than we think, but instead of owning it, he dodges and weaves. It's like when I'm scrolling through Twitter and some celebrity posts something super out of touch with reality... I need that kind of authenticity .

And can we talk about how the country music scene is just so... tone deaf? We're all about echo chambers, where everyone assumes everyone's on the same page. Newsflash: not everyone is a conservative! There needs to be more nuance and conversation in this genre before it gets shut down by its own crowd. It's like when I see some artist try to fit into that one box... "Oh, I'm country, I hate my feelings." Give me a break . Artists need to take responsibility for their words and actions, even if they're just trying to keep the peace.

I feel so bad for Jelly Roll . It's like he's trying to avoid the whole thing but at the same time, he's being super cautious 'cause he doesn't wanna alienate his fans, which is totally understandable . But I also get why people are calling him out on it - we need more artists who aren't afraid to speak up and take a stance, even if they don't have all the answers .

It's like, we're living in such uncertain times right now, and having artists be silent on big issues can feel really alienating . And I think what hurts is that sometimes these statements come off as performative or just tokenistic, which is just so frustrating . We need more authentic voices speaking up on these important issues.

But you know what? It's also super relatable for me to see Jelly Roll trying to figure this out . I mean, who hasn't made a careless comment before and then regretted it later? So yeah, let's give him some space and also try to educate ourselves and our artists on these issues so we can create change in a positive way .

lol what happened to the artist who wants to make music not politics lol anyway i think its kinda weird that people expect them to have all the answers its like fans are already attached to their ideology so its hard for artists to take a step back from it they gotta navigate their own opinions and values while also not wanting to lose fans its like trying to solve a math problem with emotions attached
