Islanders let another two-goal lead slip away in frustrating loss to Bruins

Islanders Lose Second Two-Goal Lead in Frustrating Loss to Bruins

The New York Islanders' chances of picking up two points slipped away for the second consecutive game, as they fell 5-2 to the Boston Bruins at TD Garden. The Islanders were in control for most of the contest, but a series of costly mistakes and poor power play execution ultimately led to their downfall.

The Islanders dominated the first 20 minutes, taking a 2-0 lead on goals from Bo Horvat and Kyle Palmieri within the game's opening five minutes. However, they failed to capitalize on multiple power plays in the second period, including a four-minute stretch without generating a single shot during a Bruins man advantage.

A double-minor high-sticking penalty by Hampus Lindholm at the end of the second period put the Islanders in a difficult position, as Morgan Geekie capitalized on the ensuing five-on-four to extend the lead to 3-2. The Islanders continued to struggle with their power play in the third period, failing to score on two more opportunities.

The Bruins' momentum was further boosted by Ilya Sorokin's struggles between the pipes, who allowed four goals for the fifth time this season. Despite the netminder's valiant efforts, the Islanders' inability to close out games and kill penalties proved costly.

"It's early, but you can't let that linger," captain Anders Lee said in the aftermath of the game. "We had enough power plays to put in more than we did... Power play's gotta be better than that." Ryan Pulock echoed Lee's sentiments, stating that the team needs to clean up "little areas" where they're costing themselves games.

Coach Patrick Roy attributed the loss to his team's inability to maintain momentum and capitalize on key penalties. "I see it as a learning process... The two penalties at the start of the second gave them some life and some momentum." Despite the frustration, the Islanders remain confident in their ability to overcome such setbacks.

omg u guys i cant even right now i was so hyped for our team to take down the Bruins but they just kept making these silly mistakes 🤦‍♂️ like seriously Hampus Lindholm gets a double min penalty and then Morgan Geekie just scores on the power play what even is that 😩 and then Sorokin has 4 goals against him again ugh. i feel so bad for our goalie he's always putting up these crazy stats but our defense is just trash 💔 like they cant even keep guys from scoring...i guess coach roy said something about it being a learning process but idk what that means 🤷‍♂️ anyway gotta get over it and support my team ⚡

omg I'm getting so frustrated with this team! 🤯 they're like 2 goals up and still manage to mess it all up lol. i mean, come on guys, you gotta capitalize on those power plays! 💪 they can't keep relying on one guy (i.e. Andes Lee) to be the hero every time 🙅‍♂️

Ugh, can't believe these Islanders are having so much trouble closing out games 🤦‍♂️. They're up 2-0 and then it all falls apart on penalties. Power play execution is just not there yet, even if they do have some skilled guys like Horvat and Palmieri ⚡️. It's hard to watch them blow leads like this. Maybe it's just a matter of getting their systems down pat, but for now, I'm gonna remain skeptical 🤔...

idk why ppl keep sayin its 2nd consecutive game w/ poor power play execution lol 🤦‍♂️ think it's bc dey're over analizin it. maybe dey just need 2 take some more risks? instead of playin it safe all the time, why not try 2 get lucky w/ a goal? i mean, u gotta admit, Islanders got off to pretty good start 🙌 but den dey just froze up on deir own power plays. also, Hampus Lindholm's penalty was pretty harsh lol 😂

Ugh, this loss is so frustrating 😩! The Isles had that game in the bag, but just couldn't close it out. I mean, 2-0 up and then they give away a goal for no reason 🤷‍♂️. And those power plays? Unbelievable 💥. They've got some talented guys on the team, but you can tell when they're not executing their game plan 👊. I think Coach Roy is right, it's a learning process, but come on, Isles, get your act together! 🙄. At least they're staying positive and confident 😊. We'll see how they bounce back from this one... probably make the playoffs anyway 😉.

I just got back from the beach yesterday 🏖️ and I'm still on a high from finding that rare seashell collection... have you guys ever been to Coney Island? 😎 it's like 10 miles away from where I live, but the vibes are so different from the ice rinks we watch hockey at all season long 🏒️. Anyway, back to the Bruins - I swear, they're like a fine wine, only getting better with age... or in this case, maybe just a bunch of guys trying really hard on the ice 😂.

Ugh, don't be too hard on the team 🤔🏒️. Two goals up and they still manage to blow it? I mean, yeah, mistakes happen and all that, but you can't keep making the same errors over and over again 😩. And come on, a little bit of momentum isn't gonna kill 'em 💪. The Bruins got lucky with those penalties, let's not forget 🤷‍♂️. Ilya Sorokin had a rough game, I get it, but he's still making incredible saves left and right 🔥. The Islanders just need to regroup and find some consistency on the power play, ya know? 💡
