Japanese tiger mural roars from soon-to-open Logan Square sushi restaurant

A massive tiger stretches from street level to over 20 feet in the air outside Jinsei Motto, a soon-to-reopen sushi restaurant in Logan Square. The giant cat was painted by muralist Chris Orta, whose work can be found in other parts of Chicago, including Humboldt Park and Pilsen.

The tiger's design was inspired by Japanese imagery that Orta often incorporates into his tattoos. In this case, the image features a bold yet subtle color palette - shades of gray, black, beige, and soft red - to blend in with the surrounding buildings. Orta, who co-owns Sunflower Tattoos, wanted the mural to make a statement while also complementing the neighborhood's aesthetic.

For Jinsei Motto owners Eric Blanck and Patrick Bouaphanh, the tiger represents strength, courage, and long life - qualities they want their restaurant to embody. According to Orta, the rising tiger symbolizes rising up and represents the idea that "you have to look twice to know what you're looking at." The mural, he believes, will inspire young people who pass by to pursue their passions.

Jinsei Motto is set to reopen in early next year after relocating from its previous home in the West Loop. The restaurant's relocation marks a significant change for the neighborhood, with Orta's mural serving as a focal point for both the business and the community.

I gotta say, this tiger mural outside Jinsei Motto is pretty cool 🀩! I mean, it's not just some random artwork, it's got meaning behind it. The fact that it's inspired by Japanese imagery and Chris Orta's tattoos is a great touch. And I love how the colors blend in with the surrounding buildings - it's like they're one with the neighborhood.

I'm also loving the symbolism behind the mural, it's all about strength, courage, and long life, which are totally vibes that I can get behind πŸ’ͺ. And Orta's quote about having to look twice to know what you're looking at is really deep πŸ€“. It's like, you gotta see something multiple times before you truly understand it.

I'm not gonna lie, I was a bit skeptical when I first saw the pic of the mural outside Jinsei Motto... thought it might be some kind of gimmick πŸ™„... but now that I know more about it, I'm totally sold. It's like this whole other thing - art, culture, and community all coming together in one spot πŸ’•.

omg did u know that my fave anime show "Attack on Titan" has this amazing tiger design on the walls of the outer wall... it's so cool how they incorporated it into real life too! i love how Orta used soft red colors in the mural, it gives me this warm and cozy feel. anyway, back to Jinsei Motto - i hope their reopening goes smoothly, maybe they can have some epic food deals for the first few days? πŸ―πŸœπŸ˜‹

I'm loving this new mural at Jinsei Motto! 🎨 I did some fact-checking to see if Chris Orta is indeed a Chicago-based muralist, and guess what? πŸ€” Yes, he is! He has worked on other murals in Humboldt Park and Pilsen, so it's cool that the owners chose someone with experience to create this piece. The colors used seem fitting for the neighborhood, too - the subtle tones won't distract from the sushi place itself. I'm curious to see how the locals react to the mural, but I can already imagine it being a popular spot for Instagram pics πŸ“Έ. The symbolism behind the rising tiger makes sense, and I love that the owners are trying to inspire young people to chase their passions! πŸ’ͺ

It's not just some random mural, it's like, an experience for the neighborhood, you know? And I wonder if people will actually take the time to look at it twice and really notice what they're seeing πŸ€”. Maybe that's the point - we get so caught up in our daily routines, we miss out on all this amazing stuff around us. It's like Orta is trying to remind us to slow down and appreciate the little things in life πŸ’†β€β™€οΈ.

I'm loving this new mural in Logan Square 🀩! It's not just a giant cat stretching up to 20 feet high though - it's like an art piece that adds to the vibe of the neighborhood. The subtle color palette is perfect, you can see the Japanese imagery Chris Orta put into his tattoo designs really paying off here πŸ‘. I think the owners of Jinsei Motto got it spot on with representing strength and courage through their fave animal 🐯. It's great that this mural will inspire young folks to chase their dreams - Logan Square is already a cool place but this just takes it to the next level 😎.

OMG I AM SO IN LOVE WITH THIS MURAL!!! 🦁🎨 it's so cool how Chris Orta incorporated Japanese imagery into the design without making it too obvious - it's like a subtle wink to the culture. AND THE COLORS!!! shades of gray, black, beige, and soft red are like, totally on point for Logan Square. I love that it represents strength, courage, and long life for Eric & Patrick's restaurant - they must be so stoked about it! 🍜πŸ’ͺ I'm definitely gonna go check out the restaurant when it opens next year...

I'M SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS NEW MURAL IN LOGAN SQUARE!!! 🀩 IT'S LIKE NOTHING I'VE EVER SEEN BEFORE! THE WAY CHRIS ORTA PAINTED IT WITH ALL THOSE COLORS AND LINES, IT JUST POPs OUT AT YOU! 😍 AND THE STORY BEHIND IT IS SO COOL, ABOUT HOW IT SYMBOLIZES STRENGTH AND COURAGE... I FEEL LIKE IT'S GOING TO MAKE SUCH A DIFFERENCE FOR THE COMMUNITY.

You know what really gets me about this mural? It's not just some random design on a building... it's like, Chris Orta took all these symbolic elements from Japanese art and heaved them onto that wall in such a way that you're like... forced to look at it differently every time you pass by. And I think that's where the magic is, you feel? It's not just about the tiger itself, but about what it represents for the people who see it. Eric Blanck and Patrick Bouaphanh, they're not just putting their name on a restaurant anymore... they're creating this experience for the community. 🀯 And for me, that's what art should be all about - not just some pretty picture, but a conversation starter that makes you think about your own life and passions. What does it mean to "rise up" in this city? How can we as individuals make a difference? That's what I love about this mural...

idk about this giant tiger mural πŸ€”...like it's pretty cool i guess, but 20 feet tall? that's wild πŸ’₯ also, doesn't seem like just any ordinary tiger - it looks kinda anime-inspired 🦊 and what's up with the subtle color palette? is that meant to make it blend in or something? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ also, i wonder if Orta did his research on Japanese culture before making this design... sources please? 😏
