Jess Cartner-Morley on fashion: Still wearing a cross-body bag and French-tucking your shirt? Sorry to say, your wardrobe is cringe

Fashion Cringe: A Guide to the Style Mistakes of Your Generation

If your wardrobe makes you look like someone who's lost touch with the younger crowd, chances are it's because of some cringeworthy style choices. For those in their 30s and 40s, these habits can be particularly embarrassing.

For starters, there's the cross-body bag – once a stylish staple, now a symbol of age-old desperation to cling to youth. And don't even get started on the French tuck; this trend has been relegated to the fashion graveyard where styles go to die.

Clothing that fits too tightly is also a major no-no. Fitted clothes may have been fashionable in your day, but for younger generations, it's all about looking relaxed and effortless. Those who still swear by fitted jeans or trousers often do so because they're not aware of the trend or are simply resistant to change.

Leather jackets, once a staple of cool kids, now need to be big and blowsy to avoid coming across as try-hard. And let's not forget about leggings – those were once the pinnacle of fashion, but now they're more of a nostalgic relic of the early 2000s.

Ankle issues are another area where older generations tend to go wrong. Trains socks have been outlawed in favor of sleeker, more minimalist footwear options, and ankles themselves should be concealed under sturdy socks or trousers with long enough hems to avoid dragging on the pavement.

Despite these fashion faux pas, many still hold onto the idea that they're young at heart – a sentiment that's admirable but ultimately delusional. Fashion is constantly evolving, and those who refuse to adapt often end up looking like relics of the past.

It's time for older generations to accept that their style choices are no longer cool and move on to something new – or risk becoming the laughing stock of younger people everywhere. After all, being called cringe might be a small price to pay for feeling alive.

I gotta say 🤣, I'm loving the irony of an article about fashion cringe targeting people in their 30s and 40s... it's like they're saying we're the ones who are out of touch with youth 😂. But seriously though, I think it's all about embracing your age and rocking what makes you feel confident and comfortable. I've got a few favorite thrift store finds that have become staples in my wardrobe 🛍️, and I wouldn't change them for anything. Plus, who says fashion has to be high-maintenance? A good pair of well-worn jeans and a comfy tee can be just as stylish as some fancy new designer duds 👖. Let's all just relax and be ourselves – cringe or not 😉

OMG, can u believe this?! 😂 Like, I get it, fashion is all about evolvin' and stuff, but some ppl just dont know when to move on 🙄. I mean, cross-body bags are soooo 2015! And who thought fitted jeans were a good idea again? 🤣 Fitted clothes R for grandmas now lol. But u know what's even more cringeworthy? When ppl try too hard 💁‍♀️. Leather jackets need to be all big and puffy like, not that try-hard biker chick vibe 😂. And ankle issues? Like, socks with sandals r the WORST 👠😳. Its time 4 our fave old folks to face the music 🎶 and just let go of the past 💖.

I feel sorry for anyone who's struggling with their wardrobe 😊. I mean, fashion is all about expressing yourself and having fun with it. Can't we just enjoy the journey and not get too caught up in what's "in" or "out"? 🤷‍♀️ I think some of these old habits are just a result of people being true to themselves and their style. Those who wear fitted clothes, leather jackets, or leggings should own it! 👍 It's all about confidence and rocking the look that makes you feel good, not trying to fit into someone else's idea of cool 😎. And can we please give some love to the cross-body bag? It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's still a great way to add some personality to an outfit 🤗. Ultimately, fashion is all about personal style and having fun with it – let's just enjoy the ride! 💖

🤦‍♂️ I gotta say, this whole fashion thing is like politics - it's all about who's in and who's out. One day you're cool, the next you're cringeworthy. It's like the younger crowd just wants to shake off the old guard and move on with their lives. And honestly, I get it - change is hard. But if we can adapt to new trends and technologies, shouldn't we be able to do the same with our wardrobe? 🤷‍♂️

It's also interesting how fashion is tied to identity and self-expression. For younger people, fashion is a way to signal their values and interests - and if they see older folks rocking outdated styles, it can come across as insensitive or out of touch. On the other hand, embracing new trends can be seen as a sign of openness and willingness to learn.

But here's the thing: isn't this whole cringe vs cool debate just another form of social hierarchy? 🤔 We're all just trying to find our place in society, and if that means updating our wardrobe every season, so be it. At the end of the day, fashion is just a reflection of who we are - or at least, who we want to be perceived as being. 👗

lolol what is wrong with people who still rock fitted jeans? like they're trying too hard to relive their 20s lol 😂 and on a more serious note, fashion trends are so last gen now we gotta think about how our clothes make us look in the mirror before we even hit the streets 👀 big leather jackets aren't cool anymore, period. btw, if you're over 30 and still rocking leggings u r cring 😳

ugh I feel you, people in their 30s and 40s don't have to worry about looking old lol 😂 but seriously fashion is so not age-specific it's all about expressing yourself and having fun with what you wear. those who are holding onto past styles just need to let go and try something new 🙅‍♂️ like, I'm guilty of wearing the same ol' comfy shoes for years now and my friends always give me grief 🤦‍♀️

omg u r totally right about fashion 🤦‍♀️💁‍♀️, i mean like who thought fitted jeans were still a thing now lol 😂. and don't even get me started on leather jackets - they're supposed to be edgy not try-hard 💇‍♂️👖. anywayz, it's all about evolution and keeping up w/ trends 🔄💃. older gen's gotta accept they ain't as fresh as the youth anymore 😂. btw, trains socks r soooo last century 👠😒.

omg, can you believe some ppl r still rockin fitted jeans & leather jackets? 😂 they should just own up to gettin old, like, we're all gettin older & our styles are gonna change, no need 2 resist 🙅‍♂️ it's not about bein young at heart, it's about stayin relevant in the fashion world. and newsflash, leggings r back, but in a whole new way, with sneakers & crop tops, so don't @ me 👀

🤦‍♀️ I feel like we're stuck in some sort of time warp when it comes to fashion trends! Who thought fitted clothes were cool? We should just own our style and not try so hard to fit in with the youth 🙃. And can we please retire those old leather jackets? They look like something my grandpa would wear 😂. I do wish older generations could be more open to change, but at the same time, it's okay to hold onto what makes you feel confident and comfortable 💁‍♀️. Maybe we should just start a new trend – embracing our age with pride! 👍

OMG I'm literally dying over here 💀👗 fashion is SO extra right now! 😂 like how can you not know that ankle socks are a total no-go 🤦‍♀️ and fitted clothes are so last century? 🙅‍♂️ I mean I get it, we all go through phases but some of these trends need to retire ASAP 👋 like who thought French tucks were still a thing? 🤔 leather jackets need to be big and blowsy too, tbh 😂 fashion is all about taking risks and trying new things...or at least having the confidence to rock what you're wearing 💁‍♀️ #FashionFauxPas #StyleEvolution #YaaasOrNaaah

😂 I'm like "yaaas" to this article lol I mean who needs a French tuck anymore? and those fitted jeans are soooo not cool anymore. My grandma still wears them tho... she's like, the ultimate fashion victim 😂. But seriously though, it's funny how our style choices can be seen as cringeworthy by others. I've definitely fallen into that trap before, but then my friends would be like "why are you wearing those socks?" 🤦‍♀️ and now I'm like "oh yeah, I know, I'm just trying to be cool" 😂.

LOL these fashion tips are straight fire 🔥! I mean, who thought leather jackets needed to be big and blowsy just to avoid looking try-hard? And don't even get me started on fitted clothes - like, isn't the point of getting dressed in the morning supposed to feel comfy 😂? But for real though, it's all about embracing change and not trying to cling to what was cool 20 years ago. Ankle socks are a no-go, lol @ trains 🚂!
