Philadelphia Parking Authority Hit with Lawsuit Over Unpaid Breaks, Alleged Labor Law Violations
A class-action lawsuit has been filed against the Philadelphia Parking Authority (PPA) by Terrez McCleary, a security officer who claims the agency has illegally deducted wages for years of work performed during mandatory 30-minute breaks. The lawsuit alleges that PPA's policies on break times are in violation of federal and state labor laws.
McCleary, a PPA security officer since 2018, is suing the agency for allegedly deducting her paychecks to cover the mandatory breaks without providing adequate compensation or overtime for the lost time. According to the lawsuit, McCleary repeatedly complained about the policy with her supervisor but was dismissed and belittled.
The law firm representing McCleary has stated that the suit could have a class of 20-30 current security officers, while potentially expanding to include former employees who worked at PPA over the last three years. The lawsuit is seeking damages for unpaid wages, attorney fees, and other restitution.
PPA officials declined to comment on the lawsuit when contacted by the media.
