Lawsuit claims PPA failed to pay security officers for work during required breaks

Philadelphia Parking Authority Hit with Lawsuit Over Unpaid Breaks, Alleged Labor Law Violations

A class-action lawsuit has been filed against the Philadelphia Parking Authority (PPA) by Terrez McCleary, a security officer who claims the agency has illegally deducted wages for years of work performed during mandatory 30-minute breaks. The lawsuit alleges that PPA's policies on break times are in violation of federal and state labor laws.

McCleary, a PPA security officer since 2018, is suing the agency for allegedly deducting her paychecks to cover the mandatory breaks without providing adequate compensation or overtime for the lost time. According to the lawsuit, McCleary repeatedly complained about the policy with her supervisor but was dismissed and belittled.

The law firm representing McCleary has stated that the suit could have a class of 20-30 current security officers, while potentially expanding to include former employees who worked at PPA over the last three years. The lawsuit is seeking damages for unpaid wages, attorney fees, and other restitution.

PPA officials declined to comment on the lawsuit when contacted by the media.

idk why ppl r so harsh on public servants like security officers they do a tough job keepin the city movin dont expect them 2 be happy all da time lol. think about it if u r payd minimal wage, 30 min breaks is like gettin paid 2 sit around dont u think they deserve some kinda extra? now i'm not sayin PPA did everythin rite but maybe they just needed a lil help from HR or somethin πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. dont wanna be all judgmental and assume the worst, u never know what's goin on behind closed doors πŸ’‘.

omg this is insane 🀯! I work as a freelancer on the platform and we're always stressing about our schedules and whatnot. To think that some ppl are getting taken advantage of like this is just not right 😑. I've heard horror stories from my colleagues about having their pay docked for "breaks" without any proper compensation. it's basically exploitation πŸ€‘. i hope the security officers who filed this lawsuit get some justice and a big payday πŸ’Έ. we need more awareness about labor laws and worker rights on the platform πŸ‘Š

πŸ˜’ this is just so unfair 🀯 they gotta make us work 30 min breaks but still deduct from our pay? like what even is that? πŸ™„ it's not like we can do anything about it, just take the hit and keep quiet... but nope, someone had to speak up for all the ppl who been through this too 😀 I feel so bad for Terrez, she sounds like a total underdog. 20-30 security officers could be affected by this? 🀯 that's a lot of people losing thousands of dollars. 3 yrs is a long time, and ppl gotta know their rights πŸ™„ i hope they win this lawsuit and get the justice they deserve πŸ’ͺ

omg u no wat?? 🀯 this is so unfair!!! PPA r basically takin away ppl's pay 4 somethin they can't even control lol like who makes the rules wen u gotta take a break anyway? idk about all dis, but if its true den ppl r gettin robbed πŸ€‘. need 2 change dese laws ASAP so its fair 4 every1 πŸ’ͺ

πŸ€‘ this is so messed up... gotta stand with terrez McCleary here 🀝. security officers deserve way more respect & fair pay. mandatory breaks are a thing, but that doesn't mean they get deducted from your paycheck without compensation or overtime πŸ•’οΈ. ppa's handling of this situation is super shady πŸ’”. hope the court throws down some justice for terrez and her fellow workers πŸ‘Š

πŸ€” I'm not surprised to hear that a class-action lawsuit is being filed against the Philly Parking Authority. As someone who's worked in customer-facing roles, I know how important it is to have adequate break times and compensation for those hours. The fact that this security officer was repeatedly ignored by her supervisor and had her paychecks deducted without proper overtime pay is just not right πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ.

I think the key here is whether or not these 30-minute breaks are really mandatory...if they're not, then PPA's policies might be a bit sketchy 😏. I'm all for employees being paid fairly, but if someone's break times are genuinely required, that's a different story πŸ’Ό.

ugh this is so unfair 🀯 like what's the point of having a break if you're just gonna take it away from u anyway? i feel bad for terrez mcleary, she sounds like she was really pushed around by her supervisor πŸ˜’ maybe they should've taken her concerns seriously instead of belittling her. i hope this lawsuit gets resolved and people get the wages they deserve πŸ’Έ

omg can u believe this?! 🀯 some ppl gotta make a change in Philly's gov like its 2025 and we still havin break policy issues? πŸ™„ Terrez McCleary is fightin for her rights and other security officers who gottin took advantage of too 😩. i'm all for fair pay and no deductin from ur paycheck when u workin hard! πŸ‘ the fact that ppl are gettin belittled and dismissed just cuz they talkin up a storm gotta stop 🚫. we need more workers like Terrez standin up 4 themselves n more policies bein implemented to protect workers rights πŸ’ͺ

idk how this hasn't happened before πŸ€” - a class-action lawsuit just 'cause of some random security officer not gettin paid right πŸ€‘... I mean i feel for McCleary, but like come on PPA's gotta know better than that πŸ˜’. So the law says u gotta pay overtime or compensate employees if they work during breaks, right? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ shouldn't be that hard to figure out... and if a supervisor is just gonna dismiss and belittle someone who complains about it, then that's just bad management period πŸ‘Ž. I guess this could expand to more people now tho, so hope they get some justice πŸ’Έ.

omg, i'm low-key shocked that a security officer was just treated like this 🀯 it's crazy how some places still think they can get away with screwing over their employees' rights. like, 30 minutes is a decent chunk of time to be takin out your lunch break or whatever... and then deducting it from their pay without even an apology? no thanks! πŸ˜’ i hope this lawsuit gets resolved and those PPA security officers get the justice they deserve πŸ’Έ

this whole thing got me thinking about how we value our time in this world πŸ€”... like, think about it, we're all just trying to get through the day, right? 30 minutes of break time sounds decent, but what's really going on is that we're still working while we're supposed to be taking a breather. and for someone like McCleary, who's already feeling taken advantage of by the system, having those wages deducted just feels like another layer of exploitation πŸ€‘... it's not even about the money; it's about respect and fairness. how many people are out there silently suffering in jobs that don't acknowledge their worth? πŸ˜•

aww man this is so unfair πŸ€•πŸ˜©! i mean what even is a mandatory break?! shouldn't they just pay you extra for it or something? like, if i had to take 30 minutes off in the middle of my shift at work, i'd be all over that overtime pay πŸ’ΈπŸ‘

Ugh 😩 this is so unfair! 🀯 they gotta pay those security officers for their break times πŸ•’οΈ or else what's up with that? πŸ€‘ shouldn't they get overtime for taking breaks? πŸ’Έ it's like, we work and then we take a brek... πŸ™„ why shouldn't we get paid for that time too? πŸ’• plus if they're violating labor laws, it's not good for the whole city πŸŒ† of Philly πŸ™οΈ

Ugh I'm so done with companies trying to get away with stealing employees' paychecks πŸ€―πŸ’Έ! This security officer's story sounds super unfair - she's basically saying that her employer is making her work for free during those 30-minute breaks and then taking it out of her paycheck without asking. Like, isn't that just basic labor law? πŸ€” #JusticeForTerrez

And can you imagine being in a situation where your supervisor is basically bullying you into silence when you try to speak up about these issues? It's like, no one wants to listen or take responsibility for their actions - it's all just about the Benjamins πŸ’Έ #NoMoreThievery.

I'm definitely sending my positive vibes to Terrez and all the other security officers who might be affected by this lawsuit πŸ™. Hopefully, justice will be served and these companies will start treating their employees with some respect and fairness. πŸ’ͺ #FairnessForAll

🚨 this is so messed up!!! i mean, i get it, ppl need a break but deducting ur pay w/o payin u overtime 4 it?? thats just wrong... i feel bad for that security officer who spoke up and got shut down πŸ€• if the rest of her colleagues are affected too, then the PPA needs to step up & make it right πŸ’Έ like, can't ppl just get a decent break w/o gettin penalized 4 it?? this lawsuit might be the start of somethin, hope they win $$$ for all those wronged workers πŸ’ͺ
