Light snow in NYC expected to usher in much more on Sunday

New York City received a light dusting of snow on Saturday afternoon, with some areas expecting up to an inch of accumulation before the weather clears later in the day. However, residents are being warned that this initial flurries are just the beginning – another significant storm system is expected to bring as much as 4 inches of snow across the city by Sunday evening.

As temperatures drop, the city's infrastructure will become increasingly brittle and prone to freezing, making travel conditions hazardous. In response, the city has activated its Winter Weather Emergency Plan and issued a travel advisory for Sunday, urging residents to plan ahead and avoid traveling if possible.

Preparation efforts are underway, with the city deploying 700 salt spreaders to pre-treat roads and bridges, operating continuously through Sunday. Plows stand at the ready in case neighborhoods receive more than two inches of snow, which would trigger a full-scale response.

A Code Blue weather alert has been issued for Saturday from 4 p.m. until 8 a.m. on Sunday, with outreach teams dispatched to all boroughs to assist homeless residents in finding shelter. Residents are encouraged to report anyone in need by calling 311 for assistance.

Furthermore, the National Weather Service is warning of extremely cold air expected to arrive by Monday and Tuesday, bringing temperatures that will be some of the coldest of the season so far.

omg i just got word that snow is comin to nyc 🌨️🀯 like what even is this? we're supposed to get up to 4 inches on sunday evening?! i'm not ready for winter vibes yet, can't we just have spring all year round 🌸😩 anyway, i hope everyone's preppin with hot cocoa and cozy socks cuz it sounds like the city is about to get pretty crazy πŸ’€πŸš§

ugh 4 inches of snow on sunday? thats a lot! i hope they can get the roads salted on time 🀞 but what about the homeless ppl? code blue is great and all, but how many ppl actually know to call 311 when they need help? gotta make sure we're not just talking about it πŸ“

This snow thingy is gonna bring New York City to a standstill 🌨️😬. I mean, I love the city any time of year, but 4 inches of snow? That's a whole different story βš”οΈ. I'm just hoping all the good ol' boys with salt spreaders can keep up with the road situation. And poor homeless folks getting outsheltered... 311 needs to be blowing up ASAP πŸ“²πŸ˜©. Those temps dropping? Brrr... like The Hunger Games, this is gonna be a real fight for survival ❄️πŸ”₯!

Ugh, can't believe I have to deal with this forum's slow load times again πŸ™„... anyway, back to NYC and their snow woes. 4 inches of snow? That's a bummer for the weekend. I'm more worried about the infrastructure holding up than the actual amount of snow though ❄️. 700 salt spreaders is a lot, but I'm sure it won't be enough to prevent all the accidents and whatnot.

And why do they have to send out Code Blue alerts at such short notice? It's just going to stress everyone out more 🀯. And good luck with getting homeless folks sheltered ASAP... fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly. On a separate note, I hope my internet doesn't freeze up during the storm 😩.

ugh, another snow day 🌨️... i'm not exactly excited about it, but i do love a good excuse to stay indoors and organize my digital life 😊. seriously though, 4 inches of snow is a lot, especially with temps dropping like that. our city's infrastructure can't handle all this stress πŸ’ͺ... hope everyone stays safe out there! πŸ™

🌨️ I'm not surprised to hear about another winter storm hitting NYC. The city's infrastructure is always a challenge during these events, with roads becoming icy and sidewalks treacherous. It's great that the authorities are taking proactive measures by deploying salt spreaders and operating plows 24/7. However, I do think it's essential for residents to plan ahead and take necessary precautions, especially those who might be more vulnerable to harsh weather conditions.

The city's Winter Weather Emergency Plan is well-established, but it's still crucial to remind everyone about the risks associated with travel during these events. The deployment of outreach teams to assist homeless residents is also a commendable effort. On a slightly related note, I'm curious to see how the extreme cold air expected to arrive by Monday and Tuesday will impact the city's weather patterns. Will we see any prolonged periods of subzero temperatures? Only time will tell πŸ€”

Ugh, snow in NYC is always a pain 😩. They really should've given us more notice about this storm system coming. It's gonna be a long night trying to keep up with all these snow plows and salt spreaders 🚨. I hope everyone stays safe out there and doesn't get too caught up in the hustle and bustle of it all. Can we just have one morning where everything is calm and quiet for once? 😴

omg can't believe it's snowing in nyc already πŸ˜±πŸ’¨ like we didn't have enough winter woes to deal with. seriously though, 4 inches is a lot for the city to handle - hope everything gets salted and cleared okay 🀞 these homeless teams are doing such important work tho, sending love to all those out there who need a helping hand ❀️

The East Coast is getting ready for a wild ride 🌨️! So, it looks like NYC got a little taste of winter already, but the real showstopper is just around the corner ⏰. A whole 4 inches of snow? That's crazy talk! The city is all set to deal with it, though - they're basically deploying an army of salt spreaders 🚧 and plows to keep everyone safe. But you know what that means... travel chaos 😬. I do hope people are planning ahead because those cold temps are supposed to stick around for a bit.

And can we talk about the homeless situation for a sec? 🀝 The city is doing its part by activating their Winter Weather Emergency Plan and sending out outreach teams to help those in need. 311 is open for anyone who needs assistance - that's awesome 🌟. Now, let's keep our fingers crossed that everyone stays safe and warm throughout this whole ordeal βš–οΈ.

Snow's back, just what we needed 🌨️... I mean, who doesn't love a good excuse to stay indoors and drink hot chocolate all day? But seriously, 4 inches of snow is no joke, especially when you factor in how brittle the city's infrastructure is going to get. Like, who needs that much stress on top of Monday morning already? 🀯 The city's trying to prep for it, but let's be real, we've all been here before and the salt spreaders aren't gonna save us from our own feet slipping on black ice πŸ˜‚. On a more serious note, the Code Blue alert is a great reminder that some people need an extra helping hand, so kudos to the city for looking out for those in need πŸ™. Bring on the hot cocoa and Netflix, I'm good πŸ΅πŸ“Ί

ugh dont forget ur winter gear lol just kidding kinda! but seriously tho, 4 inches of snow is a lot. how r u gonna get thru this? make sure u prep ur car & house, and have a backup plan in case u gotta stay inside on sunday. dont be that person who's stuck at home w/ no snacks & Netflix πŸ€ͺ🌨️

Wow πŸŒ¨οΈπŸ’¨ the city is getting ready for a major snowstorm πŸš§πŸ‘€ interesting how they're activating their Winter Weather Emergency Plan πŸ’‘ and deploying 700 salt spreaders to pre-treat roads 🌟 it's gonna be a slippery ride out there! β„οΈπŸ˜¬

omg, like, NYC is getting hit hard with snow this weekend 🌨️😬! 4 inches of accumulation? that's a lot for city infrastructure to handle... they're doing everything they can, but i feel bad for those who gotta commute tomorrow πŸ˜“. pre-treating roads and bridges with salt spreaders is a good start, but it's not like the snow just magically disappears πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. also, i hope the outreach teams are able to help out our homeless friends - code blue alert? that's some serious stuff πŸ’”. cold air coming in next week tho... brrr 😷!

OMG πŸ€©πŸ’¨ this snow alert sounds like a real game changer!!! I'm so glad the city is preparing for this massive storm, it's crazy to think we'll get up to 4 inches of snow by Sunday night! 🌨️😲 Make sure everyone stays warm and safe out there, those homeless folks need our help. πŸ’–πŸŒŸ
