Lim Shi An, Akira Huang, Lee Kang-sheng Board Nelson Yeo’s Sci-Fi Fantasy ‘The House on the Moon’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Singaporean filmmaker Nelson Yeo has rounded out his cast for "The House on the Moon", a genre-bending sci-fi fantasy that seamlessly weaves together mythology and martial fantasy.

Yeo's debut feature, "Dreaming & Dying", made headlines at last year's Locarno Film Festival, earning both the Golden Leopard in the Filmmakers of the Present category and Best First Feature award. Building on this success, Yeo has brought together a talented ensemble for his upcoming film.

Lim Shi An stars as Chang Er, a fairy maiden living with her lover Hou Yi (portrayed by Dominick Rustam) within the titular lunar residence. However, when legendary sun-shooting archer Hou Yi vanishes during a mission to rescue the dying sun, Chang Er embarks on a perilous journey to the moon's dark side alongside an earthbound bandit who crash-lands into her world.

Akira Huang takes on the role of the Bandit, with Harry Chang as Feng Meng. Taiwanese actor Lee Kang-sheng, known for his collaborations with director Tsai Ming-liang, plays Yue Lao, while Doreen Toh rounds out the cast as Yin Yuan.

Yeo cites growing up on genre-defying Hong Kong cinema from the 1990s as an inspiration for "The House on the Moon". The film's production marks a collaboration between Singapore and Taiwan, with Momo Film Co and Aview Images serving as producers. The project has secured backing from the Singapore Film Commission and financing from the Taiwanese Creative Content Agency (TAICCA), with Asian partners 9LB Film and KawanKawan Media joining forces.

"We see 'A House on the Moon' as an unclassifiable work that draws from the past while imagining new futures," said producer Tan Si En from Momo Film Co. "We're excited to bring Nelson's reflective and ambitious vision to life alongside a remarkable cast and through meaningful collaboration in Taiwan."

The film is currently in production, with a planned release later this year.
