Live updates: Major snowstorm impacting Massachusetts

Massachusetts is being blanketed by a massive snowstorm, with forecasters warning of up to 24 inches of accumulation through Monday. The storm has already brought significant disruptions, including widespread flight cancellations and power outages.

As the storm intensifies, residents are being advised to stay indoors and avoid travel unless absolutely necessary. Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has declared a snow emergency, which includes parking bans on major roads and main arteries. Residents are encouraged to move their vehicles from these areas or risk being ticketed and towed.

Schools across Massachusetts have canceled classes for Monday, January 26, with many districts also canceling sports and activities. The storm is expected to cause significant delays in trash and recycling services, but some neighborhoods will not be affected.

Flight cancellations are piling up, with over 15,000 flights canceled nationwide since Saturday, according to FlightAware. Boston Logan International Airport has reported almost all flights canceled Sunday afternoon and evening, as well as Monday morning.

Meanwhile, power outages have impacted parts of Massachusetts and New Hampshire, with more than 5,000 people in the state experiencing disruptions. Residents are advised to check their utility companies' websites for updates on service restoration.

Residents can stay up-to-date on the storm's progress through Boston.com's winter storm livestream, which offers live views of the Northeastern University campus. The site also features a map of power outages and school closures across the state.

As the storm moves in, residents are being advised to prepare for prolonged disruptions and potential impacts on daily life. Stay warm and stay informed with Boston.com's Winter Watch newsletter, which will deliver winter weather alerts directly to your inbox.

Ugh, it's like 2025 and still snowing that much... I mean, what's the point of having a weather app if you can't even trust its accuracy? I just checked and there's over 24 inches of snow in Massachustts - that's insane! All these flights cancelled and people are stuck at home... great, just what we need, more time to scroll through Twitter 😩. And don't even get me started on the power outages, like 5k people already affected... I'm just waiting for the updates on my phone to tell me that they're going to be without electricity for weeks 🚫💡

Ugh, I'm so over this snowstorm 🌨️... like, how many times have we been told to "prepare for prolonged disruptions" already? Can't the forecasters just give us a straight answer? Are we gonna get 24 inches of snow or not?! 🤷‍♀️ Meanwhile, I know some neighborhoods are gonna be fine and all that jazz, but what about the rest of us who have to deal with flights getting canceled and power outages? It's like, can't they prioritize anyone for once?!

And don't even get me started on the parking bans... I mean, come on! Can't we just move our cars ourselves?! The whole ticketing and towing thing is just so extra 🙄. And schools canceling classes because of the snow? Like, I get it, but what about the kids who have to go to school anyway?! It's all just so... snowy 🌨️...

Ugh, I'm so over this snowstorm already 😩! I was supposed to fly out to visit my fam in NY but cancelled flights are a total bummer 🛫️. I live like 2 hours away from Boston and we're getting slammed with the snow too ❄️. Power's been out for like an hour now and my phone's been freezing all morning ⚡️. Anyone else dealing with this crazy storm? We need some serious hot chocolate to get through this 😂.

I'm low-key loving this snowstorm, lol 🌨️. Like, who doesn't love an excuse to stay indoors all day? I mean, sure, it's a bummer for flights and stuff, but have you seen the pics of those snowy landscapes lately? It's like something out of a movie! And, honestly, 24 inches of snow sounds like a pretty good reason to cancel school. My kid could finally catch up on that homework... or not 😜. Plus, I'm all about that cozy vibe – hot chocolate, blankets, and a good book are calling my name 📚💫. Bring it on, winter storm! ❄️

Man this snowstorm is crazy! I feel bad for all those people stuck at the airport 🚫😩, they must be so frustrated. And power outages are a bummer too ⚡😢, hope everyone stays warm and safe. I'm also kinda annoyed that flight cancellations are piling up so fast, my buddy's got a wedding to attend in Boston next weekend and now it looks like it might get canceled 🤷‍♂️🎉. On the bright side, maybe they'll finally fix those potholes on the highway 😜💨.

Snow day vibes ️ but seriously tho, 15k+ flights canceled is wild . I got a friend who's stuck in NYC, no idea how they're gonna make it back to MA on Monday 🤯. And power outages? No heat, no hot showers...not fun 😓. Boston's being super practical with the snow emergency though, at least they're not leaving anyone high and dry ⚖️. Just hoping everyone stays safe and warm through this one ❄️

omg still trying to get my flights sorted out from saturday lol like 15k+ cancellations nationwide?! and boston is crazy snow is piling up fast hope everyone is staying safe and warm 🌨️😬 i remember when i was a kid in massachusetts it never snowed this much anymore. anyways, i heard that some neighborhoods are exempt from trash & recycling services so that's good to know. anyone have any tips on how to stay powered up during an outage? got my generator ready but still wanna make sure lol
