Liverpool 4-1 Newcastle: Hugo Ekitike draws Fernando Torres comparison as he haunts former admirers Newcastle

Liverpool trounced Newcastle United 4-1 at Anfield, with Hugo Ekitike scoring twice to help his side bounce back from a goal down. The France forward has drawn comparisons with former Liverpool striker Fernando Torres, who is known for his pace and finishing ability. In his first season with the club, Ekitike has already scored 15 goals and has become an integral part of Jurgen Klopp's attack.

Ekitike's partnership with Eintracht Frankfurt team-mate Florian Wirtz has been impressive, with the duo combining for six goals in all competitions so far this season. The two strikers have formed a deadly understanding on the pitch, and their friendship off it is beginning to bear fruit.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe was disappointed with his side's performance, acknowledging that Ekitike was "outstanding" and "a little bit of everything". The Magpies had hoped to sign Ekitike in the summer, but were unsuccessful. This latest defeat has been a tough pill to swallow for Newcastle fans, who are still reeling from the club's relegation to the Championship last season.

For Liverpool, the win was a welcome boost after a run of draws that had seen them sit in mid-table. The Reds' victory has moved them up to third place in the Premier League table, and they will be looking to build on this momentum as they head into their next fixture.

The similarity between Ekitike's performances and Torres' is striking, with both players possessing a similar combination of speed, skill and finishing ability. However, Ekitike has so far proven himself to be a more clinical finisher than his predecessor, with 15 goals in all competitions this season already surpassing Torres' tally in the same period last season.

Torres was known for his electrifying pace and ability to beat defenders on the counter-attack, qualities that Ekitike possesses in spades. The French forward has also shown himself to be a threat from set pieces, with two of his goals coming from corners and free kicks.

Ekitike's partnership with Wirtz is proving to be a winning formula for Liverpool, with the duo combining to create scoring opportunities and cause chaos in the opposition's box. As the season wears on, it will be interesting to see how this partnership continues to develop, and whether Ekitike can become a permanent fixture in Klopp's starting lineup.

For Newcastle, however, the loss is a bitter pill to swallow, and one that will leave them feeling frustrated and disappointed. The club had high hopes of signing Ekitike last summer, but were ultimately unsuccessful. This latest defeat only serves to heighten those feelings, and it remains to be seen whether the Magpies can mount a comeback in their bid for promotion.

In the end, it was Ekitike who proved to be the difference maker on the pitch, scoring twice and assisting his side's cause with two other goals. The French forward has proven himself to be a top-class player, and one who will be causing trouble for defenders in the coming weeks and months.

As for Torres' comparison, Gerrard acknowledged that Ekitike reminds him of his former team-mate, citing his speed, skill and finishing ability as key similarities between the two players. Whether Ekitike can become a Liverpool legend like Torres remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: he has already made himself a fan favourite at Anfield.

lol what's up with all these comparisons btw fernando torres was def a goal scoring machine but let's not forget the dude had some major flaws on defense lol remember that one time at la liga? anyway back to ekitike, i think it's awesome how he's forming a deadly partnership with wirtz, they're like two peas in a pod, moving around each other and creating chaos for opposing teams 🤯🔥

I'm literally fuming right now 😡! I mean, what's going on with Newcastle?! They had the chance to sign Ekitike in the summer and they blew it 🤦‍♂️! Now they're stuck in the Championship and Ekitike is lighting up the Premier League for Liverpool 💥. It's just so frustrating for a Magpies fan like me 😩. I know Ekitike is an amazing player, but it still doesn't make their situation any better 🙄. And can we talk about how impressive he is?! 15 goals already this season and he's only just starting to find his groove 💪. I'm loving the partnership with Wirtz, though - those two are a deadly duo 🔥. But seriously, Newcastle needs to step up their game if they want to stay in the Premier League 🚨. This latest defeat is just devastating 😭.

I'm loving this season of the Premier League so far 😍. Ekitike's rise to fame is insane! He reminds me of David Silva back in the day - always seems to find space on the pitch and pick out a pass that leaves defenders scrambling 🤯. But seriously, Liverpool's attack is looking fierce with Ekitike and Wirtz up front. They're like two peas in a pod, always moving into each other's pockets and creating scoring opportunities left and right 🔄.

And what's crazy is how quickly they've formed this partnership - I mean, we're only talking about a few months here and already they're causing problems for top teams 💪. It'll be interesting to see if Ekitike can keep up the goal-scoring form and become an integral part of Klopp's attack... but from where I'm sitting, he's definitely one to watch 🔜

omg I'm loving this new era of liverpool!!! Hugo Ekitike is pure magic on the pitch 🎩 his partnership with wirtz is 🔥 unstoppable! I was so frustrated when newcastle didn't sign him last summer, now they're paying the price 🤑. Gerrard's comparison to torres is spot on btw, ekitike's got all the same skills and speed as our favourite scouser ⚽️. can't wait to see what he does next season! 🔴

man I'm loving how well ekitike is doing for liverpool 🤩 their partnership with wirtz is pure magic 💫 he's really starting to look like a 30 goal a season striker which is insane considering the competition they play in. but on the other hand, it's heartbreaking for newcastle fans who had high hopes of signing him last summer 😔 but i guess that's football right? you gotta take the good with the bad. and i think ekitike has definitely proven himself to be a top-class player 🤝 he's got that special something that sets him apart from others on the pitch 👍

I'm so confused lol 😂 did they say how many times Ekitike scored that second goal 🤔 I don't get why people say he's like Torres though isn't it because of the goals and stuff? I mean, I love watching football but I never really understand the different positions on the field 🤷‍♂️ does anyone know what a striker is supposed to do again?

just saw this match 🏟️ lol lfc is back in business! ekitike's got some serious skills tho 🤩 similar vibes to torres, can't wait to see what the rest of the season brings 👀
