Longtime Grosse Pointe Park sports bar is under new ownership - Detroit Metro Times

Local Sports Bar Finds New Owner After Decades of Service

A beloved fixture in Grosse Pointe Park's community, Marge's Bar has undergone a change with the arrival of its new owner. Charlie Brown, a native son and restaurateur, has taken over the reins of this iconic sports bar, which has been serving up good times since 1966.

The brainchild of Marguerite "Marge" DePuys, who passed away in 2014, the bar was purchased from her son Jimmy last month. Brown's ownership marks a new chapter for Marge's Bar, but he is committed to preserving its nostalgic charm while injecting some modern flair.

"This place has history, heart, and stories in every corner," Brown notes. "I'm just thrilled to be a part of its next chapter." For Brown, who also owns wine bar Cellar313, Marge's Bar represents a return to his roots – he grew up in Grosse Pointe Park and always considered the bar an integral part of the community.

Marge's Bar is renowned for its hockey memorabilia, which adorns the walls of this unassuming yet endearing sports bar. With 15300 Mack Ave as its address, it has been a gathering spot for locals to share in their love of sports, socialize with friends, and indulge in familiar comfort food.

As Brown takes the helm, he aims to balance tradition with innovation. His goal is to maintain the Marge's Bar experience that patrons have come to cherish while introducing some new updates to keep the spirit alive. The bar's legacy will undoubtedly continue under his stewardship, as he vows to honor its rich history and make it an even more beloved fixture in Grosse Pointe Park's community.

omg i'm so stoked for marge's bar 🀩! i mean, who wouldn't want to own a piece of grosse pointe park's history? charlie brown seems like a cool cat who'll keep the nostalgic vibes alive while bringing in some fresh updates πŸ‘. i love that he's got a passion project with cellar313 too – it's always awesome when entrepreneurs support local businesses πŸŽ‰. can't wait to check out marge's bar and see what new additions charlie's got planned 😊.

Love this! New owner Charlie Brown is the right guy for the job πŸ™Œ. I mean, who better to preserve Marge's Bar charm than a native son who grew up with the bar as part of his community? He's got the heart and history down pat, and now it's time to give it a modern spin πŸ˜‰. I'm excited to see what new updates he brings while still keeping all the nostalgic goodness intact. And can we talk about that hockey memorabilia though? Iconic! ⚑️

I'm stoked Charlie Brown is taking over Marge's Bar πŸŽ‰, but you gotta wonder how this change of ownership affects the community vibe. Will they be able to strike a balance between keeping things old-school and introducing some fresh vibes? It's like when politicians switch parties – it's all about finding that sweet spot where everyone wins (or at least feels heard). With Brown at the helm, I'm hoping we'll see a mix of classic comfort food and modern twists on traditional sports bar fare. It's gonna be interesting to see how this plays out! The question is, will locals rally behind their new owner or feel like they're losing something special? Can't wait to grab a pint and find out 🍺

I'm not sure I fully understand why they're changing owners πŸ€”. The place has been around for ages, 1966! It's like they say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it πŸ’Έ. But at the same time, I get it, things change and new people come in with fresh ideas. Maybe this new owner can bring some life to the place without losing its charm 🍺. I hope they keep the hockey stuff on the walls, that's what makes Marge's Bar so special πŸ’οΈ.

omg i'm so stoked that Charlie Brown is taking over Marge's Bar 🀩 i mean, the bar has been around since 1966 and it's still got that old-school charm 😎 he's gonna bring some fresh vibes but also keep the nostalgia alive πŸ’• can't wait to see what updates he brings! maybe they'll even get a new wing section with more seating πŸ‘€

I mean, 59 years is a looong time, and it's awesome that he's gonna keep the nostalgic vibe goin' while bringin' some fresh energy to the table 😊. I remember my old man takin' me there when I was a kid, watchin' Wings games on TV, and just havin' an all-around good time 🍺. The hockey stuff is definitely part of its charm – I love seein' all those jerseys and trophies on the wall, it's like steppin' back in time βͺ. Can't wait to check out what Charlie Brown has cookin' up for the bar... will be a must-visit for me! πŸ€—

I'm defo gonna have to check it out and see what kind of updates they're bringing to the table πŸ΄πŸ‘€. This is a win for Grosse Pointe Park, IMO πŸ’•

I'm thinking, Marge's Bar has been around for ages! 1966 is crazy 🀯. I mean, who doesn't love a good sports bar with loads of hockey memorabilia? It's like stepping into a time capsule, you know? The new owner Charlie Brown seems chill about preserving the past while bringing some fresh vibes to the table. His roots in Grosse Pointe Park are awesome! 🏠

I've been to Marge's Bar before and it's so cozy! The food is decent too... who doesn't love a good burger and wings? πŸ˜‚ But seriously, it's great to see this community gem get a new lease on life. I'm curious to try out some of Charlie Brown's updates - hope he keeps the good stuff intact! πŸ‘

Just heard about Marge's Bar changin' hands... so sad that Marguerite "Marge" DePuys isn't around to see her baby bar go through this πŸ€• But on the bright side, Charlie Brown is takin' over and he knows how to bring some new life without losin' the charm πŸ“ˆ Grosse Pointe Park's gonna be just fine with him at the helm! 15300 Mack Ave, still my spot for a good time ⚑️

idk why ppl r hyped about marge's bar changing ownership lol, i mean whats wrong w/ keepin it classic? new owner comin in w/ "modern flair" is just gonna ruin the vibe πŸ˜’ they already got hockey memorabilia on walls, wut more changes do we need? πŸ€” plus, they're still servin up comfort food, thats all i care about. charlie brown might be a nice guy and all, but can he even match marge's charm? πŸ€‘ imo, its gonna be hard for him to fill her shoes

omg u guys! I'm so down for Marge's Bar getting a new owner 🀩 Charlie Brown is the man (pun intended) - I love how he's all about preserving the bar's nostalgia while bringing some fresh vibes πŸ’₯ 15300 Mack Ave just got a whole lot more exciting πŸŽ‰! I can already imagine the hockey memorabilia, comfort food, and sports games coming together for an epic experience πŸ’οΈπŸ”. Can't wait to see what updates he has in store...and I'm sure Jimmy DePuys is gonna be stoked too 😊

man i feel like this is such a great reminder that change can be good thing 🀩! we always hear about how some places stay stuck in time but marge's bar shows us that you can have the best of both worlds - keep what makes it special and then also bring something new to the table. its awesome that charlie brown gets to carry on his dad-in-law's legacy but also make it his own at the same time. and honestly, who wouldn't want to hang out in a place with that much history? anyway, just food for thought... sometimes you gotta take risks and try new things to make something even more amazing πŸ’‘

You gotta wonder, what's the real motive behind Charlie Brown buying up this iconic sports bar? Is he really just trying to preserve the nostalgic charm or is he looking to cash in on a proven recipe for success? πŸ€‘ I mean, who gets into the hospitality business without having some kind of plan, right? It's like they say, "those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it." And Brown's been around the block a few times with Cellar313 - what's his end game? πŸ€”

idk about this new owner guy... πŸ€” i mean, he's got connections to the community and all that, but can he really live up to marge's legacy? πŸ™ƒ i'm torn - on one hand, it's awesome that someone who grew up in the area is taking over; on the other hand, what if he changes everything too much? πŸ’‘ like, the hockey memorabilia is a big part of the bar's charm... will he keep all those old photos and jerseys? πŸ’οΈ i'm also wondering if he'll update the menu - marge's bar has always been about comfort food, but times change, right? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ maybe brown can strike a good balance between tradition and innovation, but we'll just have to wait and see... 🀞

Ugh, just great πŸ™„. Another sports bar gets a new owner and suddenly everyone's like "oh, it's so iconic" πŸ™ƒ. I mean, come on, 1966? That's like, ancient history for a sports bar πŸ˜‚. And now they're going to try and update it? Please do tell how that'll work out πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. I swear, the only thing they'll change is the price of a pint of beer πŸ’Έ. And what's with all the nostalgia? Can't they just innovate something new for once? πŸ€”

The transfer of ownership at Marge's Bar is a perfect example of how our communities thrive when we support local entrepreneurs πŸ‘. It's refreshing to see Charlie Brown putting his heart into preserving the bar's nostalgic charm while introducing some modern twists – it's a great way to revitalize the space for new generations. On the other hand, you could argue that this change might be seen as a classic example of gentrification πŸ€”. The rising cost of living and property values can push out long-time residents, making it harder for traditional businesses like Marge's Bar to remain in the area. Nevertheless, with Brown's commitment to honoring the bar's history, I'm confident that he'll strike the right balance between preserving the past and embracing innovation πŸ’Ό.
