Man arrested for stabbing 1 teen, attacking another at Bronx subway station, NYPD says

Man Arrested for Brutal Subway Attack on Two Teens in Bronx

A disturbing trend of violence continues to plague New York City's subway system, as authorities arrested a 32-year-old man accused of stabbing one teenager and attacking another at a Bronx station. Richard Shaw, who resides in an East Harlem non-profit housing facility, is facing multiple charges including attempted murder, robbery with a deadly weapon, and assault.

According to the NYPD, Shaw approached an 18-year-old boy on the northbound 2 train platform at Prospect Avenue stop around 6:15pm Monday, sparking a fight that resulted in the teen being stabbed several times. Witnesses reported that Shaw pulled out a knife during the altercation, leaving the victim with serious injuries.

Shaw then allegedly targeted another bystander who had called 911 for help, punching and kicking the victim before attempting to take their phone. The older teen refused medical attention, while the injured teenager was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition.

In a shocking turn of events, Shaw fled the scene, only to be apprehended by officers later that day at the 49th Precinct in the Bronx. Authorities say Shaw and his victims did not know each other before the violent encounter.

The arrest marks the latest incident in a string of subway attacks that have left authorities on high alert. NYPD data shows a significant increase in citywide transit crime, with over a dozen more incidents reported through January 18 compared to the same period last year.

As the city struggles to combat rising crime rates, transit officials are working to reassure riders that they remain committed to ensuring safety on New York's public transportation system.

man, this is getting out of hand 🀯🚨, i mean i get that we got a lot of issues in this country but subway attacks are just ridiculous, like what's the point of stabbing someone on the train? it's not like you're gonna make some kinda statement or something. and now they gotta deal with all these random attacks and crimes on the subway, it's scary to think about 🚫😬. i mean i'm all for getting tough on crime but can't we just have a safe way to get from point A to point B without having to worry about some psycho stabbing you? πŸ˜‚πŸ‘Ž

Ugh, this is so sad πŸ€•. I mean, can't we just live in peace and harmony? The subway attacks in NYC are getting out of hand πŸ’₯. It's like, what happened to the good ol' days when you could ride the train without worrying about your safety? Now it's all about being on edge and waiting for the other shoe to drop 😬.

I'm so glad they caught this dude, but at the same time, I feel bad for those two teens who got hurt πŸ€•. It's just devastating to think that a stranger would do that to someone else. And can we talk about how messed up it is that Richard Shaw was living in a non-profit housing facility? That's not an excuse, though πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ.

The NYPD needs to step up their game and figure out what's causing all these subway attacks πŸ€”. Is it something going on with the mental health system? Poverty? Whatever it is, we need to address it ASAP πŸ’ͺ. The city can't keep living in fear of getting mugged or stabbed on public transportation 😨.

this is just so sad πŸ€•. another young life lost due to violence on our subways. i remember when i was a kid, the subway was like a second home to me, but now it seems like people are losing control. what happened to us? why can't we resolve our issues peacefully? πŸ€”

i'm glad they caught this guy, but we need to do more than just arrest people and throw them away. we need to get to the root of these problems and figure out how to prevent these attacks from happening in the first place. maybe it's time for us to take a step back and try to understand what drives someone to commit such a heinous crime πŸ’‘

anyway, i'm not looking to place blame or jump to conclusions. we just need to keep talking about this stuff and trying to find solutions that work for everyone 🀝.

This is getting out of hand in NYC 🀯 I'm not surprised but still really sad about this latest subway attack πŸš«πŸ˜” The fact that someone can just walk up to a kid and stab them because of no reason is just sickening 😷 It's not just the victims, it's also the witnesses who have to see this stuff and deal with the aftermath πŸ™ˆ Everyone deserves respect and kindness, especially on public transportation where you're supposed to feel safe πŸ‘

omg what's going on in nyc?? 😩 this guy is like literally the poster child for subway violence i mean who does stuff like that? 🀯 and it's not just one or two incidents it's a string of them already this year, it's getting out of control. and now we're hearing about a bunch more incidents on top of it...transit crime is through the roof πŸš‚πŸ’₯ how can they even start to address this? more police presence? better security cameras? it's all just feeling really helpless at this point πŸ˜”

Ugh πŸ€• this is just getting out of hand! The fact that there's a 32-year-old man who can't even control himself in public and decides to go stab someone with a knife is just wild 😲. And then he has the nerve to try to take a bystander's phone after they called for help? Like, what's wrong with this dude?! πŸ™„

I'm all for keeping our cities safe, but we need to do more than just arrest people who commit violent crimes. We need to figure out why these incidents are happening and how we can prevent them in the first place. Is it poverty? Mental health issues? Lack of opportunities? Whatever it is, we need to address it ASAP πŸ•°οΈ.

And let's not forget that this is just one more example of the rising crime rates in our city. I'm so tired of seeing these stories pop up every day and feeling like there's nothing being done about it πŸ˜”. We deserve better than a system that can't even keep us safe on public transportation πŸš‚πŸ’¨

Ughhh, can't believe this is happening again πŸ€•πŸ˜¨ in our own backyard! Like what's going on with these people? Can't we just ride the subway without getting stabbed or attacked?! I'm literally shaking thinking about it πŸ˜‚. Shaw's gotta get a life, you know? Like, stab someone and then run away like a coward? No way! Not my subway system πŸš«πŸ‘Š. Authorities need to do more to keep us safe, like, for real πŸ€”. This is not the first time we've had issues with violence on the subway, it's getting out of hand 🚨. Can't wait till Shaw gets his just desserts πŸ’β€β™€οΈ.

😱 This is just getting outta hand! I'm so sick of these random subway attacks happening everywhere in the city 🚨. First it was Brooklyn, then Queens, now the Bronx... what's next? 😩 These young people were just trying to get home from school or a party and get stabbed for it 🀯. And what really gets me is that the guy who did it, Richard Shaw, had no business being out in public with no way of knowing his victims πŸ’€. I mean, how many knives does he need to carry around? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

The city needs to step up their game and find a solution to these rising crime rates ASAP ⏰. Can't they just increase security cameras or something? πŸ“Έ It's not like it's rocket science... meanwhile, our public transportation system is basically becoming a war zone 😨. I'm all for keeping the streets safe but come on, we need some answers here πŸ’‘

ugh this is getting out of control 🀯 can't believe it's happening again in broad daylight... 12 more incidents already? what's going on with our city?? 😩 and why do these places always have to be a war zone? subway station should be a safe space not some battleground 🚫 hope they catch the guy who did that other attack last week, don't even wanna think about it πŸ’”

This is getting outta hand 🚨😱. Subway attacks in NYC are crazy... like, what's goin' on here? πŸ€” People are gettin' stabbed and assaulted just walkin' down the train tracks 😑. Can't we all just coexist without tryin' to hurt each other? πŸ™

I heard that the 49th Precinct is doin' a community outreach program to prevent these kinds of incidents... that's cool, I guess πŸ‘. But like, what about the people who get caught up in it all? The victims and witnesses are just tryin' to live their lives, not get hurt πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ.

I saw an article about this on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/NYCFood/comments/...

I'm not buying this guy was just random and attacked two teens out of nowhere... I mean, what about witnesses saying he'd been causing a scene beforehand? And how did he even get away for so long after calling 911? πŸ€”πŸš¨ This feels like more than just a random attack to me. Did the cops interview anyone who might've seen Shaw's history or previous run-ins with transit authorities? I'm all for keeping our subway system safe, but we need concrete evidence and accountability here... this just doesn't add up. πŸ“

Ugh, subways in NYC are like, a real knife fight waiting to happen πŸ—‘οΈπŸ˜‚. I mean, I've seen some crazy stuff in my time, but stabbing someone on the subway? That's just wild. And the part where this guy Shaw flees and then gets caught is like something out of a movie. "The Getaway" minus the cool getaway car πŸš—πŸ’¨.

But seriously, what's going on here? Is this some kind of gang thing or what? I don't know about you but every time I see someone getting stabbed on the subway I'm just like "that's it, I'm taking the bus from now on" πŸšŒπŸ˜‚. On a more serious note, we need to figure out why these incidents keep happening and how we can prevent them.

You know what they say: if you want to make a good first impression, start with a good last impression πŸ˜‚. Maybe Shaw should've thought twice before stabbing someone on the subway... or maybe he just really wanted to get off the 2 train πŸš«πŸ‘Ž.

🚫 this is just so messed up 🀯, like what even is wrong with people these days? it's not like there aren't enough problems in the world already, do we really need more violence and hate spewing out of some dude's body? i mean i get that sometimes people lose their cool but stabbing someone in broad daylight? that's just insane. and the fact that he was on a train, where you're supposed to feel safe, is just crazy πŸš‚πŸ‘Ž

and what really gets me is that this guy is from an east Harlem non-profit housing facility, which means we should be supporting him, not giving him a platform to hurt others. we need to figure out why he was feeling so desperate and angry, because clearly something's seriously wrong here πŸ’”.

transit officials are working hard to keep us safe, but it feels like they're fighting an uphill battle with all these random attacks happening everywhere 🚫πŸ’₯. can't we just all get along and try to be kind to each other? i guess that's a lot to ask for in today's world πŸ˜”.
