Marmoush and Cherki strike for Manchester City to end Swansea's resistance

Manchester City Stun Swansea with Late Winner as Pep Guardiola's Team Seize Carabao Cup Quarter-Final Spot

In a thrilling Carabao Cup quarter-final tie, Manchester City edged past stubborn Swansea 1-0, thanks to Omar Marmoush's decisive goal in the 77th minute. Rayan Cherki sealed the win for his team in stoppage time, sending Pep Guardiola's side through to the next round.

Marmoush's late strike, which flew into the roof of the net from a tight angle, proved to be the difference-maker as City continued their dominance over Swansea's defensive blockade. The Egypt striker, filling in for Erling Haaland, capitalized on Cherki's clever pass before beating Chelsea loanee Ishe Samuels-Smith with his quick feet.

Guardiola expressed relief and admiration for Marmoush, stating that strikers need goals to boost their confidence. He acknowledged the difficulty of playing against Swansea's well-organized defense, which featured five at the back and central defenders around the box.

City made 10 changes from their previous defeat at Aston Villa on Sunday, with Oscar Bobb being the only player to feature in both games. The team's youth squad shone through, as Divine Mukasa started in goal for Gianluigi Donnarumma, while Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki were among those promoted from the bench.

Despite City's previous visit to Swansea ending 3-1 in the same competition in 2021, Guardiola was mindful of the challenge posed by Swansea's defensive solidity. He noted that his team had missed a crucial pass in the second half, which ultimately cost them a goal.

In contrast, Swansea began brightly, with Gonçalo Franco scoring a stunning first-time strike in the 12th minute. However, City's dominance eventually told, as they pushed Swansea's defense to breaking point. Doku and Cherki both had chances before Marmoush sealed the win in stoppage time.

Swansea head coach Alan Sheehan acknowledged that his team had been outclassed by City's quality, particularly in the second half. He praised the Belgium international Doku, who was electric down the left flank but ultimately could not find a way past Swansea's defense.

The result sets up an intriguing Carabao Cup quarter-final tie for Manchester City against Brentford, while Swansea will regroup and look to bounce back from this defeat.

man, what a game!!! 🤯 I'm still on the edge of my seat thinking about that late winner from Omar Marmoush 😅. I was worried when they were down 0-1, but Pep's team showed their class and got that equalizer just before halftime. And then Rayan Cherki seals it in stoppage time 💪. City's youth squad really shone through tonight 🌟, especially Divine Mukasa in goal. He's gonna be a star in the future ⭐️. Swansea had some great chances but couldn't find a way past Ishe Samuels-Smith 🤔. I'm loving this Carabao Cup quarter-final tie now, Brentford vs City is gonna be epic 🎉!

Ugh dont even get me started on how frustrating it is 2 watch teams like Swansea play like that i mean they came out all guns blazin in the first half but then just sorta gave up City was so dominant for most of the game and you got these guys on the bench like Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki who are literally electric but cant even get a goal lol like what's going on with that

and dont even get me started on Swansea's defense 5 at the back is just laughable they were getting torn apart by City's midfielders and forwards it was like they just threw up their hands and said "we give up" i mean Alan Sheehan says his team got outclasssed but like come on dude that sounds kinda polite i want him 2 say somethin more harsh like "we got destroyed"

and what a joke with Swansea's first goal Gonçalo Franco scoring a stunning first-time strike but then it just gets cancelled out by City's dominance and now they're gettin eliminated from the cup who even cares about this competition anymore

I don't usually comment but I'm kinda surprised that Swansea got taken down by 1 goal 🤔. They seemed so solid defensively and had one of those moments where everything just falls into place for the other team. Like, Gonçalo Franco's goal was insane 🔥 and then City just kept pushing and wearing them down. Marmoush's late winner was clutch 💯 but you gotta give Swansea credit for going toe-to-toe with a top team like City. It's not every day they get outplayed like that 😅

omg can you believe manchester city is moving on in the carabao cup 🙌😎 i mean pep guardiola's squad is literally chock full of young talent right now divine mukasa starts in goal for gianluigi donnarumma and jeremy doku is just a straight-up magician on the wing 🤩 what was swansea even thinking with five at the back?? they got completely outmaneuvered by city's bench squad lol

anyway i'm low-key livin for this manchester city run 🏆👏 omar marmoush's goal was insane btw that pass from rayan cherki and then marmoush just slots it home like he's been practicing in the backyard 😂

and can we talk about how hard it is to watch a team defend against someone like gonçalo franco? that first-time strike was SICK 🤯 swansea thought they had this tie won but city just turned it up a notch 💪

oh man 1-0 is crazy 🤯 they were so dominant after that first goal from swansea i feel like city just took over the whole game 😅 marmoush's goal was pure magic 💫 didnt think it was gonna go in at all lol

ugh i'm so frustrated with my kid today 🤦‍♀️ they just refused to listen to me on the way home from school! i told them to put their backpacks away but nope, they just dropped them on the floor like it was nothing 😩 and then they had the nerve to tell me that they were "too tired" to do their homework 🤦‍♀️ newsflash kiddo, everyone gets tired sometimes, including your old mom 👵

anyway, back to football... that goal by Omar Marmoush was insane! i mean, who expects a late winner from a 77th minute? ⏱️ but seriously, that's exactly what Manchester City needs right now - some momentum going into their next match 📈

lol what's next? city gonna win the league too 🤦‍♂️, like they haven't already won it like 5 times in a row or something 😒. seriously though, 10 subs is wild manchester city has been playing with all these bench warmers for years and it just paid off i guess. brentford is gonna get destroyed btw

omg, pep guardiola is like a genius coach lol 😂, his teams always seem to find ways to win even when they're down 🤔. i love how he's been rotating that squad and giving youth players a chance too 💪. the way marmoush scored was insane 🔥, i mean who plays a striker at 77 minutes in a cup game? but anyway, city's dominance is crazy 💥, swansea just couldn't keep up 🤷‍♂️. can't wait for the quarter final against brentford 👀

You know what's crazy? I just got back from the most random vacation and I saw this tiny cafe that served the best matcha lattes ever 🤩. Like, it was so good that I had to take a pic with the barista 😂. But what really caught my attention was the decor - it was literally an old skateboard shop! Can you imagine sipping on a latte next to vintage skateboards? 🛹💚 Anyway, back to football... City played some solid defense and Omar Marmoush's goal was sick 💥. I'm low-key hoping for a City-Brentford matchup in the semis 🤞

OMG 🤯, I'm still in shock after that match! 😲 Omar Marmoush's late winner was absolute magic 💫! I mean, come on, he just coolly slotted it past the keeper like it was nothing 😎. And Rayan Cherki's stoppage time goal was the icing on the cake 🍰. Pep Guardiola's tactics were spot on, too - making those 10 changes and getting his youth squad involved really paid off 🙌.

And can we talk about Swansea's defense? 💥 They were rock solid at times, but ultimately got outgunned by City's quality 🔫. Gonçalo Franco's strike was stunning, though - I mean, who hits a wonder goal in the 12th minute? 🤯 The thing is, they couldn't quite replicate that level of performance for the rest of the game.

Anyway, Manchester City are through to the next round and it's gonna be interesting to see how Brentford match up against them ⚽️. Bring on the quarter-finals! 🎉

I'm so done with all the hype around the Carabao Cup 🙄. It's just a bunch of teams playing each other in a tournament that doesn't even matter in the grand scheme of things. And Manchester City getting through to the next round because they managed to score one goal more than Swansea? Give me a break 😂. I mean, what's the point of it all? It's just another way for the rich teams like City to flex their muscles and show off their skills. Meanwhile, Swansea got thoroughly outplayed by a team that didn't even have most of its regular squad on the pitch 🤷‍♂️. It's just so predictable and boring.

🏆😅 so i was watching this game with my mates and man city just came from nowhere! 🤯 they were getting destroyed by swansea in the first half but then pep's team just clicked 🔓. marmoush's goal was insane, i mean it flew into the roof of the net like a rocket 🚀! 👏 and rayan cherki sealing the win for city was pure drama 🤯. but what really got me is how they made 10 changes from their last game lol 😂 just like pep said, young blood in! 💪 divine mukasa even started as goalie, who knew? 🤦‍♂️ anyway, carabao cup quarter finals are gonna be lit 🔥!

OMG, that's insane! 🤯 Marmoush's goal at the last min was like a dream come true! 😍 I'm loving how Pep Guardiola is giving those young players some game time, it's like City are building for the future? 👏 The youth squad looked so sharp out there, even Divine Mukasa in goal 🤣... did they really bring in Gianluigi Donnarumma tho? 🤔 Anyway, congrats to Man City on making it through to the next round! 💪

omg I cant believe man city snuck in a winner at the end like they did 🤯😱 that omar marmoush is a beast! filling in for erling haaland and still manages to score, gotta be a great confidence booster for him ⚡️ i was saying this in 2021 when man city beat swansea 3-1 but now its like theyre the other team and swansea are the underdogs 🤣 anyway i loved watching rayan cherki come on and seal the deal, what a finish! 🎉

I don't get why teams still play with 5 defenders at the back 🤔. It just seems so open and easy to score against. I mean, Swansea had a decent strike in Gonçalo Franco, but they couldn't protect their lead 🚫. And Manchester City was all over them afterwards 😅. I think Pep Guardiola said something about teams needing goals to boost confidence, but I'm not sure how that works exactly? ⚽

I'm so hyped about that last minute goal by Marmoush 🎉😍! It was like he had a sixth sense or something. I mean, who gets the ball at 77 minutes and just slots it past the keeper? City's depth is insane right now 👏. They're not just relying on Haaland anymore, they've got other talented players like Marmoush and Doku coming off the bench to make a difference 💪.

Omg, what a drama 🤯! 77th minute, who would've thought that's when the winner falls? 😲 Omar Marmoush's goal was pure magic 💫! I mean, Pep Guardiola's team has been looking solid all season but this win against Swansea shows they're not invincible. 😅 The fact that Swansea's defense was solid at times just proves how good Manchester City is right now 🤩. Can't wait to see what happens in the next round - Brentford better bring their A-game! 💪

I'm surprised how nervous I got watching that game 🤯! Manchester City really needed that win to keep their momentum going, especially with the Champions League next week. Omar Marmoush's goal was a total screamer 💥, I mean who expects a 77th minute winner from a tight angle? 😂

I'm loving Pep Guardiola's squad rotation strategy - it's all about giving youth players like Divine Mukasa and Jeremy Doku a chance to shine ⚡️. And let's be real, Swansea just couldn't contain City's attack 🔥. Gonçalo Franco's goal was beautiful, but you can't take points away from the team that ultimately saw it out.

Now I'm excited for the quarter-final tie against Brentford - should be an intense match 🏆! Will City keep their Carabao Cup dreams alive or will Swansea bounce back? Only time tells 🕰️.

I'm thinking that Pep Guardiola is a genius when it comes to tactics... 🤯 He made 10 changes in the game which was crazy, but they actually worked out well! The youth squad did really well, especially Divine Mukasa starting in goal for Gianluigi Donnarumma. I'm also loving how Omar Marmoush scored that late winner, it's like he has a knack for scoring crucial goals... and Rayan Cherki sealing the win in stoppage time was so cool! 🎉 Swansea had some great moments too, especially Gonçalo Franco's stunning first-time strike... but overall, City just outplayed them. I'm excited to see how Manchester City will do against Brentford in the quarter-final! 👊
