Marmoush and Cherki strike for Manchester City to end Swansea's resistance

Manchester City have broken through Swansea's stubborn defence in the Carabao Cup, securing a quarter-final spot with a stoppage-time winner from Rayan Cherki.

A dramatic goal from Omar Marmoush in the 77th minute had set the tone for Manchester City's victory, as the Egypt striker's first goal of the season gave his team the momentum they needed to push Swansea back.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola expressed relief and happiness at Marmoush's goal, stating that strikers need goals for their confidence. "It is not easy against that system, five at the back, central defenders around," he said.

Guardiola made 10 changes from his starting lineup at Aston Villa on Sunday, with Oscar Bobb being the only survivor in the XI. However, despite a dominant performance, City struggled to create clear-cut chances until Marmoush's late strike.

Earlier in the match, Swansea had taken control and started brightly, with Gonçalo Franco scoring the opening goal after Josh Key drove infield past Rayan Aït-Nouri and squared for Franco just outside the area. However, City responded well and equalized through Jeremy Doku before Marmoush's decisive strike.

Swansea manager Alan Sheehan praised City's quality, saying "They've got close to £1bn-worth of quality." The visitors were unable to create any other clear-cut chances until stoppage time, when Cherki pounced on a loose ball and gave his team the win.

omg did u see that match? city was straight trash till marmoush came in as sub! they played like 10 mins without creating anything but then omar gets a goal & suddenly everything changes 🤯 pep made so many subs but it paid off in the end 😂 he's got a system, u guys can't deny it 💯 anyway swansea was trash, goncalo franco was all over the place & they didn't create anythin after omar scored, what a difference maker! 🤔

omg swans should've kept that 0-0 draw lol man city was so lucky with that late winner rayan cherki saved their arse 🙌💪 meanwhile marmoush's goal was pure magic what a finish 😍 gotta give credit to sheehan for trying out those weird tactics but u can't argue with the result 💸

🤔 so like if you watched the game with your friends do you think City's 10 changes made them look super weak or was it just part of their strategy? 🏀 I mean Pep Guardiola said they need goals for strikers to get confident which is true but what about defense? Like how did Swansea keep it at 1-1 for so long? 🤷‍♀️

I mean, come on, Manchester City's performance was solid but they didn't exactly smash it... like, what's up with all those changes by Pep Guardiola? 10 players out of 11? That's some crazy rotation game. 🤔 And Swansea, they played a decent defense, I'd say, especially against the quality of City's attack. 5 at the back can be a good strategy... unless it makes you look like you're not taking the opponent seriously enough. 😅 Plus, Rayan Cherki's goal was just luck, anyone can pounce on a loose ball 🤷‍♂️. I'm still not sure if City deserved that win...

man that was a crazy match! I'm so glad city pulled it off, i mean, 10 subs is just wild 🤯 they must've brought some serious energy off the bench. i love pep's reaction to marmoush's goal tho, strikers need goals for their confidence and all that... anyway, gotta say swansea had a good start, gonçalo franco scored first and they took control for a bit 🌟 but city just wore them down eventually. guess it shows you can't keep a good team down 😅

omg can't believe that goal from Omar Marmoush!!! 10 mins to go and city were getting torched by swansea but then marmoush just comes out of nowhere and slams it in! i'm not even gonna lie Pep was right though strikers need goals for their confidence and manchester city needed one bad boy like that goal ASAP 🤯😂 and can we talk about the amount of changes pep made?! 10 subs that's crazy!!! but seriously the way he managed to turn the game around is just genius. Alan Sheehan said they've got £1bn-worth of quality and omg i dont blame him!! 😂

OMG, Manchester City is like the ultimate loan sharks - they're always circling for that big win 💸😂! But seriously, 10 changes in one game? Pep's getting creative with those squad swaps... or maybe just trying to keep everyone happy 😜👏. And can we talk about Gonçalo Franco's goal? I mean, who needs the opening goal when you can just have a bunch of guys running around like headless chickens before someone scores at the end 🤣💨! Rayan Cherki, though - stoppage-time hero vibes all day long ⏰👍.

⚽️ I think what's fascinating about Manchester City's performance is how they managed to break down Swansea's defense, particularly with their substitution strategy. Guardiola made some bold moves by bringing in so many fresh faces, it was a tactical masterclass to be honest 🤓. But, I'm intrigued by the fact that City struggled to create clear-cut chances for most of the match, it just goes to show how much Swansea's system and organization have been working.

The difference between Marmoush's goal and the rest of their shots was like night and day – his strike was clinical and precise 🔥. I'm loving this drama-filled Carabao Cup quarter-final spot for Manchester City! It'll be a great test for them to see how they adapt to playing against teams with different defensive strategies 📈.

I'm loving the drama this match had 🤯! Manchester City totally deserved that stoppage-time winner from Rayan Cherki. I mean, Swansea was all over them in the first half, but City just kept going 🔥. That Omar Marmoush goal in the 77th minute was insane - he needed to score that for his confidence and all 😂.

I'm not surprised Pep Guardiola made a ton of changes at halftime, though 🤔. He's always tinkering with lineups to try and find what works best. It paid off this time, even if it was just by one goal ⏱️. Swansea had some great moments, but City's quality ultimately told 💪.

Gonçalo Franco scored that opening goal for a reason, though - he's got some serious skills 🎯! And Jeremy Doku responded well to get City back in the game. Still, it was all about Marmoush in the end, and what a goal 😆. Manchester City's on 🔴 fire right now... but I still think Swansea was unlucky not to take more chances 💔.

aww man 😩 i feel like city was in the game for ages and that last goal by marmoush is just heartbreaking 🤯 it's like they just ran out of steam but hey they got that w 🎉 and bobb being the only one to stay on is wild lol 10 subs? what's going on with pep?? 😂

OMG, what an epic comeback by Manchester City 🤯! They totally deserved that win, especially after Swansea took control in the first half 🏆💪. I mean, Gonçalo Franco's opening goal was sizzlin', but Manchester City just wouldn't give up 💦. And then Omar Marmoush's goal in the 77th minute was pure magic ✨! The way Pep Guardiola made those 10 changes and still managed to dominate is just genius 🙌. I'm so stoked for Jeremy Doku too, he looked like a total beast out there 🔥. And Rayan Cherki's winner at stoppage time was just the icing on the cake 🎂! City's quality is indeed top-notch, as Alan Sheehan said 😊. Can't wait to see what happens next in the Carabao Cup 🤔!

Swansea's stubborn defense, it made me think about how we perceive success in our own lives, you know? We might feel like we're making progress, but if our goals are just within reach, do we ever really achieve anything? 🤔 Manchester City broke through that defense, but at what cost? Did they find true fulfillment or was it just a sense of relief when the ball went in?

Pep Guardiola made 10 changes to his lineup - isn't that like how some people change their entire approach to life when things aren't going as planned? A drastic measure to try and break through. But what's the real cost of those changes, though? Is it worth losing touch with who we are in the process?

And have you ever noticed how Swansea manager Alan Sheehan called City's quality "almost £1bn-worth"? Like, does that even matter when it comes down to it? Is wealth and status really what gives life meaning or is it something more intangible? 🤑

You know I was at this match last season and it was crazy! They say experience is everything and Pep's got some serious experience under his belt now... his tactic of making 10 changes didn't sound like a great idea back then but clearly worked out 🤔. Swansea had their moment, but City kept pushing until the end. That goal by Marmoush was a total game-changer 🎯. I'm glad they got that win and can now move on to the next round... gotta be nice for the lads' confidence too 😊

I gotta say, Manchester City's performance was super solid 🤩! They dominated possession and had some great opportunities, but their finishing was a bit sloppy at times ⏰. I mean, Jeremy Doku is an amazing talent, he should've scored for sure 💥! Anyway, Rayan Cherki's winner was a total game-changer 🎉, and Marmoush's goal was the icing on the cake 🍰. City's bench depth is insane though, 10 subs in one match? Pep's got some serious tactical know-how 🔮. Still, I'm not sure about City's chances against bigger teams... but they're getting closer to being a solid league contender 👀

idk why ppl still think Pep Guardiola is that old-school 😂 I mean, he's like 50 now 🤯! He was talkin bout strikers needin goals for confidence back in 2019 🙃 when players were wearin out those same boots they had 10 yrs ago. And what's w/ all these subs? 10 changes?! It's just a bunch of benchwarmers gettin played like nobodies 🤷‍♂️. I mean, if you got talent on the bench, don't be afraid to play 'em, ya feel? 😊

I mean, what a game! Manchester City was like the snake that slithers into the Cup quarterfinals without being noticed 😏. I love how Pep Guardiola made 10 changes, basically saying "you know what, we're gonna throw everyone in the pool and see who swims 🤣". And that striker Oscar Bobb, he's like the lone wolf out there 💯.

But seriously though, Swansea was putting up a good fight until they gave Marmoush his first goal of the season 🎉. I'm pretty sure the City fans were thinking "ah, it's gonna be one of those games where we score at the last minute and our manager is all happy 😊". And Alan Sheehan from Swansea was just being real when he said Manchester City has £1bn-worth of quality 💸.
