Manchester City have broken through Swansea's stubborn defence in the Carabao Cup, securing a quarter-final spot with a stoppage-time winner from Rayan Cherki.
A dramatic goal from Omar Marmoush in the 77th minute had set the tone for Manchester City's victory, as the Egypt striker's first goal of the season gave his team the momentum they needed to push Swansea back.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola expressed relief and happiness at Marmoush's goal, stating that strikers need goals for their confidence. "It is not easy against that system, five at the back, central defenders around," he said.
Guardiola made 10 changes from his starting lineup at Aston Villa on Sunday, with Oscar Bobb being the only survivor in the XI. However, despite a dominant performance, City struggled to create clear-cut chances until Marmoush's late strike.
Earlier in the match, Swansea had taken control and started brightly, with Gonçalo Franco scoring the opening goal after Josh Key drove infield past Rayan Aït-Nouri and squared for Franco just outside the area. However, City responded well and equalized through Jeremy Doku before Marmoush's decisive strike.
Swansea manager Alan Sheehan praised City's quality, saying "They've got close to £1bn-worth of quality." The visitors were unable to create any other clear-cut chances until stoppage time, when Cherki pounced on a loose ball and gave his team the win.

I mean Pep Guardiola said they need goals for strikers to get confident which is true but what about defense? Like how did Swansea keep it at 1-1 for so long?

. And can we talk about Gonçalo Franco's goal? I mean, who needs the opening goal when you can just have a bunch of guys running around like headless chickens before someone scores at the end

. ️ I think what's fascinating about Manchester City's performance is how they managed to break down Swansea's defense, particularly with their substitution strategy. Guardiola made some bold moves by bringing in so many fresh faces, it was a tactical masterclass to be honest

But, I'm intrigued by the fact that City struggled to create clear-cut chances for most of the match, it just goes to show how much Swansea's system and organization have been working.

I'm loving this drama-filled Carabao Cup quarter-final spot for Manchester City! It'll be a great test for them to see how they adapt to playing against teams with different defensive strategies
