Matt Cord to fill 93.3 WMMR's midday slot, succeeding the late Pierre Robert

Veteran Radio Host Matt Cord to Rejoin WMMR, Following Passing of Legendary Pierre Robert

Matt Cord, a stalwart figure in Philadelphia's radio scene and longtime 76ers public address announcer, will assume the midday host position on 93.3 WMMR beginning December 1st. This move comes as a tribute to the late Pierre Robert, who passed away last month after four decades of service at the iconic station.

Cord has been a fixture in Philadelphia radio for over 40 years and boasts an impressive resume, having worked with various stations including sister station WMGK. A lifelong Sixers fan, Cord has also become an integral part of the team's broadcasts since joining as the public address announcer in 1998.

In his new role at WMMR, Cord has expressed his intention to honor Robert's legacy and spirit, vowing to continue carrying on his friend's tradition of providing engaging entertainment for the station's loyal listeners. "Although no one can step into those sparkling high-top Converse and fill them," Cord said, "I've known Pierre for 35 years... I promise to carry his amazing spirit into the studio bearing his name and do my best to make him proud."

Program Director Chuck Damico echoed this sentiment, stating that Cord's return will be a significant step forward for the station. "It has been incredibly challenging for us to regroup after Pierre's passing," he noted. "However, I know that Matt can do him proud, and Pierre would absolutely 100% approve of this."

Cord's new show will air weekdays from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., succeeding Robert's beloved midday slot. WMMR has announced plans for a tribute concert honoring Robert on December 17th at the Fillmore Philadelphia in Fishtown, featuring a star-studded lineup of Brent Smith and Zach Myers of Shinedown, Lzzy Hale and Joe Hottinger of Halestorm, and Ed Roland of Collective Soul.

The station's commitment to paying tribute to Robert is reflected in its recent decision to rename the studio "The Pierre Robert Studio" in his honor. As Damico aptly put it, "We will all continue to honor Pierre in everything we do forever... And the way to start healing and moving forward is by bringing Matt back home."

just saw this news about matt cord rejoining wmmr and i gotta say its a bit weird seeing someone new fill pierre roberts shoes πŸ€”. like, pierre robert was a legend in philly radio scene and cant be replaced easily πŸ’―. i guess matt cord is a good replacement tho, has been doing it for 40+ years so he knows what works ⏰. its cool that theyre honoring pierres memory with a tribute concert on dec 17th 🎸. but u can feel the void hes left in philly radio scene πŸ’”.

🀝 I'm so stoked that WMMR is giving Matt Cord a second chance to shine on air. It's amazing how his passion for radio and his friendship with Pierre Robert will come together to honor Robby's legacy πŸ™. I love how the station is embracing this opportunity to keep Pierre's spirit alive, especially with that tribute concert on Dec 17th - it's gonna be epic! 🀘 The fact that they're renaming the studio "The Pierre Robert Studio" shows just how much they care about keeping Robby's memory close to their hearts ❀️. Can't wait to tune in and hear Matt bring his A-game πŸ’ͺ

omg i just found out about this 🀯 so sad that pierre robert left us but i'm stoked matt cord is taking over his spot 😊 i loved listening to pierre's midday show he always made me laugh even on my worst days. i've been listening to wmmr since i was a kid and it's awesome to see them keep his legacy alive. the tribute concert on dec 17th sounds lit too 🎸πŸ’₯ can't wait to hear matt cord bring the energy!

🌟 So I'm reading this about Matt Cord joining WMMR and it's like, really cool how they're honoring Pierre Robert's legacy 😊. I mean, 40+ years in Philly radio is no joke! But what I'm most excited about is the tribute concert on Dec 17th πŸŽΈπŸ‘ featuring some amazing bands. It's gonna be a blast celebrating Pierre's life and work. The new studio name is also a nice touch, feels like they're really getting into it πŸ’Ό. Can't wait to tune in and see what Matt has in store for us! 😊

πŸ€” I'm kinda bummed that WMMR is moving on from Pierre Robert so quickly. Don't get me wrong, Matt Cord sounds like a great guy and all, but can't they just take their time and honor his friend's legacy properly? Like, have they thought about doing a special "Pierre Robert Day" show every week or something?

I mean, I love Matt Cord as much as the next person, but let's not forget that he was part of the team that has been playing Pierre's music on repeat for years. It's only fitting that they give him some time to get settled in before making big changes.

On a more positive note, though, the tribute concert sounds AMAZING 🀩! Brent Smith and Zach Myers from Shinedown are going to bring the house down, for sure! And I'm stoked to hear that WMMR is renaming the studio "The Pierre Robert Studio" – it's about time we had a nod to this legendary guy in our city.

So yeah, I guess I'm just gonna have to wait and see how things play out with Matt Cord at the helm. Hopefully he can bring some of Pierre's magic back to WMMR πŸŽ™οΈπŸ’«
