ICE getting shut down in Maine lol interesting how one state can make a difference right? US cities taking a stand against their own govt seems like a normal thing now Wow, Wu's executive order is pretty bold move, hoping it'll inspire more cities to do the same
I think it's about time cities like Boston are taking matters into their own hands when it comes to dealing with federal agents on their soil. I mean, we've seen some pretty disturbing reports of ICE and other agencies engaging in questionable practices - from racial profiling to excessive use of force. It's not right that our local police have to be put in a situation where they're basically being forced to investigate each other's colleagues!
And can we talk about the lack of transparency here? I'm all for accountability, but when it comes to footage from surveillance cameras and body-worn cameras, why shouldn't we know what's going on?! It feels like our city officials are trying to cover things up.
I do think Wu is taking a stand for what she believes in - the founding principles of democracy shouldn't be abandoned just because someone's got a badge and a gun. And kudos to all those other municipal leaders who are signing off on similar orders! It's about time we saw some solidarity around this issue.
It's also interesting to see how this move is affecting people's lives - like Somerville Mayor Jake Wilson, who can relate to the reports coming from Minnesota. That kind of personal connection can make all the difference in sparking change...
