St. Thomas Edges Oral Roberts Behind Dominant Second Half Run
The St. Thomas men's basketball team continued its impressive start to the season with a convincing 82-71 victory over Oral Roberts at the Mabee Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Saturday evening.
As the teams headed into halftime, it was anyone's game, with Oral Roberts trailing by just three points. However, the Tommies turned up the heat in the second half, unleashing a 10-2 surge that gave them an insurmountable 11-point lead over the Golden Eagles.
St. Thomas standout Nick Janowski led all scorers with 23 points and also dominated on the glass, grabbing 12 rebounds to pace his team. Connor Dow matched Janowski's output for Oral Roberts, but it was too little too late as the Tommies pulled away in the final stretch.
The St. Thomas squad, now at an impressive 14-4 overall, remains one of only two Summit Conference teams with a perfect record against conference opponents. The team will look to keep its winning streak alive as they head to Fargo next Saturday to take on North Dakota State.
However, first up is a tough test in Grand Forks as the Tommies face off against North Dakota in a 7 p.m. tip-off on Thursday. Before that, St. Thomas returns home to the Lee & Penny Anderson Arena on January 22nd to host South Dakota State in a crucial matchup.
