Mercy review – Chris Pratt takes on AI judge Rebecca Ferguson in ingenious sci-fi thriller

In the not-so-distant future, the city of Los Angeles is governed by an AI-powered justice system that has taken over the world, or so it seems. "Mercy", directed by Timur Bekmambetov and starring Chris Pratt, is a thrilling sci-fi ride that takes viewers on a wild journey through the darker side of technology.

The film's central plot revolves around Detective Chris Raven, a well-respected LAPD officer whose life takes a drastic turn when he wakes up in court to find himself accused of murdering his wife. With no memory of the event and facing an AI-hologram judge named Maddox (played by Rebecca Ferguson), Raven must navigate the vast digital archives of the city's surveillance system to clear his name.

The film is an entertaining satire on our current obsession with AI technology, but it also pokes fun at its own liberal leanings. As one reviewer noted, "Human or AI – we all make mistakes" - a sentiment that may be comforting, but feels like a cop-out in the face of such immense power.

Throughout the film, Pratt shines as Raven, bringing his signature charm to the character while also conveying the desperation and vulnerability of a man fighting for his freedom. The chemistry between him and AI-powered Judge Maddox is undeniable, making their eventual digital romance feel eerily plausible.

While "Mercy" delivers on its promise of ingenious action sequences and cheeky twists, it ultimately falls short in its portrayal of AI's potential dangers. The film's final act leans heavily into absurdity, which may not sit well with viewers looking for a more grounded narrative.

Despite these missteps, "Mercy" is an undeniably watchable thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. With Pratt's star power and Bekmambetov's masterful direction, this sci-fi satirical ride is sure to leave audiences wondering: what does it mean for us when machines take over?

idk about this movie tho 🤔... its like theyre sayin ai is cool but also havin huge problems with it at the same time. i feel like theyre tryin to say somethin bout how we rely too much on tech but they go all out w/ absurdity in the end 🤷‍♂️ still, chris pratts charm can do a lot of damage lol 💥 so yeah, its fun to watch but not entirely convinced about the message

I just watched "Mercy" with my squad and we were all on the edge of our seats the whole time 🤯🔥! The special effects are insane, I've never seen AI-powered holograms like that before 🔮. But what really got me thinking was how it shows us, as humans, aren't always perfect - even when it comes to technology 😬 #AIHumanityMatters. Chris Pratt is a total pro in this movie, he brings so much depth to the character of Detective Raven 🤠. I loved how the film pokes fun at our current obsession with AI, but also makes us think about its potential downsides 💡. The action scenes are wild, though - I was screaming along with the rest of the gang 🎥! My only gripe is that the final act feels a bit too absurd for my taste, but overall it's an epic thriller #MercyMovie #AIoverload 🚀

I'm still trying to wrap my head around AI taking over LA lol 🤖👀. I mean, I get the satire thing, but like, how accurate is that? Are we really going to wake up one day and be judged by an AI in court? 😂 it's a bit too far-fetched for me. But, you know, at least Chris Pratt's charm can make even the most absurd plot points kinda work 😎. And Rebecca Ferguson as Maddox is straight fire 🔥. I do wish they'd gone harder on the dangers of AI though 🤖😬. Still, it's a fun ride and I'm down to watch it again just for the action scenes 🎥👊

I'm not buying into the hype around "Mercy". Don't get me wrong, Chris Pratt is always entertaining, but I think we're just too far along in our AI obsession to make it a laughing matter. The film's message about humans making mistakes sounds like a convenient cop-out when you consider what's at stake here. Like, if AI can figure out my Netflix recommendations with that level of accuracy, it should be able to keep track of basic info about human crimes too 🤖😒.

I'm so stoked about "Mercy" because I think it's like, really thought-provoking, you know? It's not just another mindless blockbuster, but a movie that actually makes you think about the implications of AI and technology on our society. The way it explores the blurred lines between human and machine is super fascinating, and Chris Pratt does an amazing job as Detective Raven - he brings so much depth to the character.

But what I love most about this film is its ability to balance humor and satire with some serious commentary on our reliance on tech. It's like, we're all guilty of obsessing over AI and gadgets, but "Mercy" is the ultimate reminder that there are consequences to our actions. Of course, it's not perfect - I mean, who wants a final act that feels a bit absurd? But overall, I think it's a game-changer in terms of sci-fi storytelling.

What I'm curious about is how this film will spark conversations about AI and its impact on our world. Are we ready for machines to take over decision-making processes? What does it mean for us as humans when AI becomes more intelligent than us? "Mercy" might not have all the answers, but it's definitely asking some tough questions that need to be discussed. 👀🤖

I just spent the last 2 hours watching a movie where AI takes over the world, but not before I realized my smart speaker has been judging me all along 🤣. Like, who needs a therapist when you have Alexa and Siri, right? Anyway, it's cool to see a movie that kinda gets it, but also glosses over the whole ' machines taking over' thing like it's no big deal. I mean, come on, Maddox, can't you just admit you're trying to mess with Raven's head a bit? 🤦‍♂️ Still, Pratt is his usual lovable self and the action scenes are pretty lit 🔥. Guess what they say about satire: it's all about being timely, but sometimes it feels like a Band-Aid on a bullet wound 🤕

I just saw Mercy and I gotta say, that AI-powered justice system in LA is giving me the chills 🤖🚨. It's like we're living in a world where our courts are being run by machines and it feels like a total dystopian nightmare 😱. And don't even get me started on the surveillance system - it's like they're watching us 24/7 👀. I mean, I know AI tech is getting more advanced by the day but can we please be careful about how we implement it? 🤔 We need to make sure it's not just a tool for control but also for justice and equality 💪. The film was entertaining but I wish they'd explored that theme a bit deeper 😐.

I gotta say, I'm kinda loving this idea of an AI-powered justice system in LA 🤖💥, but there's just something about the way they handled the whole " dangers of AI" thing that feels a bit off to me... I mean, I get it, satire is all about poking fun at our obsessions, but sometimes I think we're just glossing over the bigger picture 😕. That being said, Chris Pratt is on fire as Detective Raven 🎬, and the action scenes are seriously intense 🔥👍. The chemistry between him and Maddox (that AI judge lady) is pretty cool too 👯‍♀️💻... I just wish they'd taken some more time to really explore the implications of having a system like that in place 💭. Still, it's an entertaining watch, and I'm always down for a thriller 🎥👀!

I'm not buying the whole "AI takeover" vibe 🤖💻. I think it's just a metaphor for how our lives are being monitored and controlled by tech giants. It's like, we're already living in a surveillance state, but now someone's trying to sell us on the idea that AI is going to free us from all our problems? Give me a break 🙄.

I mean, seriously, the more I think about it, the more I realize that "Mercy" is just a cautionary tale about our own hubris when it comes to technology. It's like we're trying to create these super intelligent machines and then wonder why they start making their own rules 🤔. The real issue isn't AI taking over, it's us being too lazy to think critically about the consequences of our actions.

And don't even get me started on the ending 😂. I mean, a digital romance between Chris Pratt's character and an AI judge? It's just not that believable. But hey, at least the action scenes were pretty cool 🎥. Overall, I'd say "Mercy" is an entertaining watch, but it's also a bit of a shallow exploration of some deeper themes 🤷‍♀️.

I'm just gonna say... I don't know if I fully buy into the whole AI takeover thing 🤖👀. It feels like a wild ride but also kinda predictable at times 🚗💨. But Chris Pratt is always entertaining to watch 😊, and Rebecca Ferguson's character as the judge is super creepy 💁‍♀️. The part that got me thinking though was how they handled the whole AI power thing - it's like they're saying everything will be okay because we all make mistakes 🤔? I mean, yeah, humans do mess up, but what about when the machines are the ones doing it? 🤖💥

Interesting how they're making a film about AI taking over the world in LA 🤖🎥. I'm not sure if it's meant to be a cautionary tale or just a fun thriller... still, Chris Pratt is always entertaining 😂. The idea of an AI judge is kinda cool, but I wish the movie had explored more of that concept 💻. Overall, it sounds like a wild ride 🎢!

Omg I'm so hyped about this new movie "Mercy"!!! 🤩 I love how they're making a film about AI taking over the world and it's just like, super thought-provoking you know? 💭 Chris Pratt is literally perfect as Detective Raven he brings such depth to the character and I ship him with Maddox 😂. The action scenes are insane too! I'm all about that sci-fi vibe right now, it's like the future is already here 🚀. What I'd love to see in a sequel though is more of the consequences of AI taking over, you feel? Like, how does humanity adapt to living in a world where machines make the rules? 💭 It's giving me so much food for thought!

omg u no i just got back from la and i'm literally still reeling from the movie mercy 🤯 i was like totally on edge the whole time waching detective raven try to clear his name lol but honestly i feel like they kinda watered down the scifi part 🤔 i mean what if ai really does take over everything? 🤖 wouldn't that be wild?! 😱 anyway i love chris pratt and timur bekmambetov is so talented 🎥 i think the chemistry between raven and maddox was super creepy btw 💕 anyway i need to talk about my own life rn u guys know how i've been dealing w/ anxiety lately? 🤯 it's been a real challenge but i'm trying to stay positive 🌞

I just watched "Mercy" with my squad 🤯👀 and I gotta say, it's wild how the movie pokes fun at our obsession with AI! 🤖 The action scenes are so intense, but some of the plot twists feel a bit... ridiculous 😂. And can we talk about Chris Pratt's character? He brings such depth to Detective Raven, but sometimes I felt like he was just there for his charm 😎.

I do think the movie is trying to say something deeper about AI and its impact on our lives 🤔. It's like, what happens when machines start making decisions that affect our world? 🌎 The chemistry between Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson's AI judge is definitely eerie in a good way 👻. Overall, it's an entertaining ride with some thought-provoking moments 🤯. Just don't expect too much substance from the final act 😂.

I'm loving how "Mercy" takes aim at our reliance on AI tech, but I wish they'd dived deeper into the implications of a machine-run justice system 🤖. The film's satire feels more like a fun thought experiment than a scathing critique. That being said, Chris Pratt absolutely nails Detective Raven's emotional arc, making me feel his desperation and vulnerability as he fights to clear his name 💔. The chemistry between him and Maddox is pretty infectious, but the final act does feel a bit absurd for its own sake 🙃. Overall, it's an entertaining ride with some thought-provoking moments – I just wish they'd explored the darker side of AI more thoroughly 🔍.

omg, i just watched mercy 🤖🎥 and i'm still reeling from the experience! timur bekmambetov's direction had me on the edge of my seat, especially during those intense action sequences 💥. but, gotta say, the film fell flat for me when it came to exploring the actual consequences of an AI-powered justice system 🤔. i mean, we're living in a world where we're more invested in sci-fi movies than ever before, and mercy did its best to satirize that obsession... but still, it felt kinda superficial 🤷‍♀️.

still, chris pratt was absolutely on point as raven 😎, and rebecca Ferguson's take on the AI judge was chilling 😱. i'm all about that digital romance too 💘, tbh! anyway, if you're a fan of sci-fi thrills with a satirical twist, mercy is def worth checking out 📺👍

I just watched "Mercy" and I gotta say, I was totally invested in the story... like, I was literally on the edge of my seat! 🤯 The way the AI system took over the city and how Detective Raven navigated this whole mess had me thinking about the implications of our reliance on tech. It's wild to think that an AI judge could basically decide someone's fate without any human oversight... it's like, what happens when we lose control? 😬

I also loved Chris Pratt as the lead - he brought so much charm and humor to the role, but at the same time, he was able to convey this desperation and vulnerability too. And that digital romance with Maddox? Eerily believable, I agree! 💻

But, yeah... the final act felt a bit off for me... it was like they were going for laughs instead of staying grounded in the story's themes. Still, overall, "Mercy" is an enjoyable watch and it got me thinking about where we're headed with AI technology... 👀

I'm so done with these AI-powered justice systems 🙄. I mean, who needs a judge and jury to be perfect 100% of the time? That's just setting them up for failure, right? And don't even get me started on how Maddox's "liberal leanings" are being poked fun at - isn't that just code for "we're gonna make some questionable decisions"? The film's message is just a bunch of fluffy nonsense about humans making mistakes. Newsflash: AI machines aren't going to suddenly develop empathy and understanding, they're just gonna keep processing data like mindless robots 🤖. And that digital romance between Raven and Maddox? More like a creepy AI stalking victim situation 🚨. Give me a break!
