Meta’s layoffs leave Supernatural fitness users in mourning

Meta's massive layoffs have left fans of Supernatural fitness, a popular virtual reality workout program, reeling in grief. The company, which Meta acquired in 2022, has shut down its operations and will no longer provide new content updates.

For many users, like Tencia Benavidez from New Mexico, Supernatural was more than just a workout app - it was a community and a lifeline during the pandemic. Benavidez, who started using Supernatural five years ago, credits the program's authentic coaches with keeping her engaged. "They seem like really authentic individuals that were not talking down to you," she says.

The layoffs have sent shockwaves through the Supernatural community, with many users expressing outrage and disappointment on social media. Some are canceling their subscriptions, citing concerns about the future of the service and how it will continue to license music from big-name bands.

However, others like Stefanie Wong, a Bay Area accountant who has used Supernatural since the pandemic, plan to stick with the program until it's shut down for good. "It's not the app," she says. "It's the community, and it's the coaches that we really, really care about."

Despite the layoffs, Supernatural remains a beloved fixture in the virtual reality fitness landscape. Its unique blend of music and workout routines has drawn thousands of users, including many who have found solace in its online community.

As the news sinks in, fans of Supernatural are taking to social media to mourn the loss of their favorite program. The hashtag #RIPSupernatural is trending on Twitter, with users sharing memories of their time on the platform and expressing gratitude for the experience.

For those who remain loyal to Supernatural, the future is uncertain. Will they continue to pay for a service that's no longer getting new content? Only time will tell. But one thing is clear: Supernatural has left an indelible mark on the lives of its users, and its legacy will be remembered for years to come.

The decision by Meta to shut down Supernatural was met with criticism from lawmakers and regulators, who had expressed concerns about the company's antitrust practices during the acquisition. The layoffs are just the latest blow to Meta's struggling metaverse efforts, which have hemorrhaged billions of dollars in recent years.

As the VR fitness landscape continues to evolve, one thing is certain: Supernatural will be deeply missed by its fans. Its impact on the lives of those who used it cannot be overstated, and its legacy will endure long after it's gone.

🤕💔 I feel so bad for all these people who have lost their favorite workout buddy 😩. Supernatural was more than just a fitness app, it was a community and a way to stay motivated during the tough times 🙏. Those authentic coaches were a game changer for many of us 👫. It's crazy that Meta thought shutting down the whole thing would be okay 🤷‍♀️. I'm still not sure what's gonna happen with our subscriptions... will we just get refunds or is it gonna be goodbye Supra 💔?

😔 I'm so bummed out about Supernatural going down. I've been using that VR fitness program for years and it was literally my go-to way to stay active during lockdown. The community was so supportive and motivating - the coaches were always so encouraging and non-judgy, you know? 🤸‍♀️ I'm not sure what Meta did wrong with their business plan or whatever, but shutting down Supernatural just feels like a huge waste of potential. 💔

🤕 super bummed about Supernatural goin down 🤕, was like my VR gym during pandemic lol, made me feel less alone when I was stuck at home 🏠. now what? do i just give up on VR fitness or find some other thing that's not gonna get shut down next? 🤔 think about all the people who got emotional attached to those coaches 😩, like what are they gonna do now? cancel their subs and lose access to music or whatever 💸. anywayz, RIP Supernatural 🎤

I'm literally sobbing over here 😭💔 I mean, what's the point of even having a virtual reality fitness program if you're not gonna put in the effort to keep it alive? 🤯 Five years and countless sweat sessions down the drain because Meta couldn't be bothered with updating Supernatural. I knew it was taking a hit when all the big-name bands started pulling their music, but I had no idea it'd get shut down for good 💔. The community aspect of it was so strong - I've met some amazing people through Supernatural who share similar passions and goals 🤝. Stefanie's right, though, it's not just about the app; it's the coaches, the music, the entire vibe that made it special 🎶. Can't help but wonder what they're gonna do with all those users now... is there even a plan in place to honor their loyalty? 💭 One thing's for sure: Supernatural will be deeply missed by its fans. It may not have changed anyone's life, but it changed ours - our fitness goals, our social lives, our perspective on wellness and self-care 🌞. RIP Supernatural 💔

Aww man, I'm so sad to hear about Supernatural 🤕💔. It was such a great community and the coaches were amazing 💖. I've heard from some friends that they're really upset about it, but also kinda... understanding? Like, you get why Meta had to make these cuts, even if it hurts the people who used the app 🤷‍♀️. But omg, those fans are gonna miss this place so much 💔! I mean, Supernatural wasn't just a workout program - it was a place where people could connect and feel good about themselves 💪. It's crazy how something that started 5 years ago can have such a big impact on people's lives 🤯. Anyway, my fave thing is that even though it's shutting down, its legacy will live on in the hearts of its fans ❤️.

😞 ugh man this is so sad I loved Supernatural too it was more than just a workout app for me it was my go-to thing during pandemic times i remember having some bad days when i thought nothing good would happen but then i'd put on my fave playlist and do the Supernatural workout 🏋️‍♀️🎵. the coaches were so cool they made u feel like ur own personal trainer not just some robot yelling at u 😂 anyway it's sad to see it go but i'm gonna miss the community even more. lets keep the memory of Supernatural alive 👍💖

omg I'm so sad to hear about Supernatural shutting down 🤕👋 their virtual classes were literally my savior during lockdown 📚💃 and now everything is gonna feel so empty without them 😔 the music licensing issues might be a concern for some ppl, but for me it's more like how are we gonna keep in touch with our community & coaches? 🤝 I'm low-key considering canceling my subscription too 🤑 but at the same time, I don't wanna let go of all the progress I made 💪🏽💃 anyhoo, RIP Supernatural you'll be deeply missed 😔
