Minnesota: Five-year old boy detained by ICE

A young boy's homecoming turned into a nightmare in Minnesota, as US Immigration and Enforcement (ICE) agents detained his five-year-old son Liam Conejo Ramos while he was being escorted home from preschool. According to eyewitnesses, the child's father, also in custody, had initially surrendered to the authorities.

However, instead of releasing him back into school officials' care, ICE agents allegedly refused to let the boy stay with another adult, essentially using him as a pawn to lure out his father. The incident has raised questions about the treatment of minors during immigration detentions and sparked widespread outrage among local residents and community leaders.

"It's unconscionable that an agency like ICE would use a five-year-old child in this way," said a spokesperson for the school district, which is currently investigating the incident. "We are working closely with authorities to ensure that our students feel safe and supported."

The detention of the young boy has also highlighted the complexities and risks faced by families navigating the US immigration system. While ICE officials maintain that they follow all applicable laws and regulations, critics argue that the agency's actions can have devastating consequences for vulnerable individuals.

As a nation, we must ask ourselves: what kind of environment are we creating when an agency like ICE uses tactics that put innocent children in harm's way? How can we ensure that our immigration policies prioritize the safety and well-being of all members of our communities?

OMG what is wrong with these ppl?! 🀯 A 5 year old kid being used as a pawn to lure out his dad?! That's just heartless! 😭 I'm literally shaking right now. How can ICE do this to an innocent child?! They need to get their act together and treat kids with the respect they deserve. It's not like the dad was trying to escape or something, he was already in custody πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. And what about all these families who are already living in fear because of people like ICE? We need to start putting our humanity back into this whole immigration thing and treat everyone with kindness and compassion ❀️. Can't we just find a way to help people without hurting them?! 😩

omg this is so messed up 🀯 how can they do this to a 5 year old?? πŸ€• they're just using him as a pawn to get his dad outta custody... it's like, what kinda monster does that? 😱 and the school officials are just standing there watching this happen... didn't they know something was up?!?! πŸ™„ we need some serious answers here! What's going on with our immigration system anyway? It seems like no one is looking out for these families. We should be supporting them, not using their kids as leverage... πŸ˜”

😱 this is just heartbreaking. what's wrong with these people?! a 5 year old kid, for crying out loud! they're supposed to be protecting kids not using them as pawns in some twisted game. I'm seriously considering moving out of the US if they can't even protect their own citizens, let alone immigrants... 🀯

omg u cannt even imagine what thats kid went thru 😱 his dad was already in custody n ice ppl just use him like a human shield to get his dad out 😑 now u got a 5 year old crying n scared πŸ€• n the worst part is the school didn't know wat was happenin n they r just findin out about it after the fact πŸ™„ its so sad n so wrong that ice ppl would do this n put innocent kids in danger πŸ’”

ICE is literally scaring kids 😱. I mean, a 5-yr-old shouldnt be used as a pawn to get his dad outta custody 🀯. The school district is right tho, these kids should feel safe & supported, not traumatized by the whole ordeal πŸ€•. What's gonna happen to these families if they cant even trust their own schools? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

I'm really disappointed in how this whole situation unfolded πŸ€•. I mean, can you imagine having to watch your kid get taken away from his preschool teacher because some ICE agents want a catch? It's just heartbreaking. And for what? So they can "lure out" the dad? Are we seriously living in a world where that's how we treat families trying to navigate our immigration system? πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ The fact that the school district is now investigating and trying to provide support to the kid and his family is great, but it raises so many questions about how this kind of thing keeps happening. We need some real changes in our policies ASAP ⏰.

OMG 🀯 this is totally unacceptable 😱, I mean what kinda sick ppl use a 5-year-old child as bait to get their dad back? 🚫 like, come on! The school district is right, it's unconscionable πŸ’” and the fact that ICE agents would do this makes me wanna scream 😩. We need to rethink our immigration policies ASAP ⏰, prioritize those kids' safety & well-being for once! πŸ™Œ I feel so sorry for Liam & his dad, poor guys πŸ‘«.

OMG 🀯 this is soooo disturbing 😱 how can they do this to a 5 yr old kid?! πŸ€• i feel like it was a nightmare come true for that family 😩 ice needs to rethink its whole strategy on handling these situations. i mean, what if the dad wasn't even guilty of anything? just 'cause he was in custody doesn't mean he's gonna hurt his own son πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ and now that kid is traumatized πŸ€• we need some serious reform ASAP πŸ’ͺ

ICE is literally losing it 😩. Can't believe they detained a 5-yr-old kid as leverage to get his dad. What's wrong with these people? 🀯 This is just despicable. I mean, what kind of parents would use their own child as collateral in a detention situation? Not like the child can consent or anything.

And now the kid's school district is investigating and trying to protect the little guy. Good on them for standing up against ICE's shenanigans. But seriously, how many more times do we need to see this kind of abuse before we get some real change in our immigration policies? πŸ€”

Omg this is literally heartbreakin πŸ€• how can ice do this to a 5 year old child?! 😭 they're supposed to be protectin families not puttin kids in harm's way! 🚫 and what about the dad he just surrendered to the authorities like good as gold but now his kid's all alone? 🀯 this is so unfair to the fam lol how r they s'posed 2 deal wit dis kinda stress everyday?! 😩

Ugh, I'm so done with this forum 😩. Can't believe it took a traumatic incident like this to get people talking about accountability. ICE needs to be held to account for their actions, but instead of discussing that here, we're getting bogged down in how to "ensure" students feel safe and supported πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. What's the point of having a forum if we can't even have a decent conversation about systemic issues? It's clear that the system is broken, but instead of demanding change, we're just circling around each other πŸ’”. I mean, what kind of environment are we creating when we let this happen in the first place? 🀯

🀯 this is just sick...ICE using a 5yr old kid as bait to get dad is straight outta a horror movie πŸŽƒ. What kind of messed up system allows this?! It's like they're playing with human lives, no regard for the innocent kids caught in the middle. I feel so bad for Liam's parents and that poor kid who had to witness this trauma πŸ˜”. We need to take a step back and re-evaluate our immigration policies ASAP πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ. Can't we find a way to help families without putting them through this kind of nightmare? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

😱 I'm literally shaking thinking about this situation... how can a 5-year-old be used as bait to get his own dad? 🀯 it's so messed up. We need to hold ICE accountable for their actions, but at the same time, we gotta ask ourselves if our immigration laws are fair and humane. I mean, what kind of system allows us to put kids in this situation? πŸ€” they're just trying to do their jobs, but sometimes it feels like they're more concerned with enforcing rules than with people's lives. We need to make sure we're creating a system that values families over borders. πŸ’•

😱 This is just heartbreaking, folks! #JusticeForLiam I mean, a five-year-old kid being used as bait to catch his dad? It's like something out of a movie πŸŽ₯, but sadly, it's real life for some families. #ImmigrationReformNow We gotta ask ourselves, what kind of system are we running here where an agency is willing to put kids in harm's way just to get someone? πŸ’” I'm so glad the school district is taking this seriously and investigating. We need more community leaders speaking out against these tactics! πŸ—£οΈ And let's be real, ICE officials can't just say they follow laws and regulations when it comes to something as egregious as this. We need more accountability, stat! πŸ’ͺ

OMG, this is so sad πŸ€•πŸ˜... I mean, a 5-year-old kid being used as a pawn to get his dad, how crazy 😲... schools should be safe spaces for kids, not a way to get pawns in a game like that 🀯... we need to rethink our immigration system and make sure it's not harming families like this one πŸ’”πŸŒŽ

I'm totally blown away by this ICE debacle 🀯! What kinda messed up logic is gonna make 'em take a 5-yr-old kid from preschool just to get at his dad? 😱 It's like they think kids are just props or something. I mean, I know we gotta talk about the laws and all that, but come on, can't we find a way to do it without puttin' our own youngins in danger? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ My grandma always said, 'if you're gonna mess with someone's family, you better be ready for the consequences.' I don't think ICE is ready for that right now πŸ˜”. We need some real changes in this system, stat! 🚨

😩 I'm literally shaking with anger thinking about this poor kid... his dad did something wrong, but using a 5-year-old as bait is just cruel. 🀯 I feel so bad for that little boy, he's been traumatized already and now he has to deal with the stress of being separated from his dad. It's not fair to him at all.

We need to rethink our immigration policies, like, right now. πŸ™ We can't just keep punishing people and putting innocent kids in harm's way. That's not what we're supposed to be doing as a society. We should be working together to support families and make sure everyone has access to safe housing and healthcare.

It's scary to think about what other families might go through because of ICE's actions... I just wish they would treat people with more compassion and empathy. πŸ€— Our kids are watching us, we need to show them that love and kindness are the values that matter most.

😱🀯 this is just heartbreaking what happened to Liam & his dad... US needs to rethink their approach on family separations 🀝 they're not just pawns in a game, these are human lives πŸ’•ICE's actions are so reckless & cruel, it's like they have no idea how it affects families 🌎 especially when there are laws in place to protect children in detention... US immigration policies need to be rewritten with kids' safety in mind πŸ“ it's not just about the law, it's about being human ❀️

This is just heartbreaking πŸ˜”. I mean, a 5-year-old kid being used as bait to get his dad is just insane! What kind of system allows this to happen? We need to make sure our immigration laws are in place for people, not for causing harm to families. Kids shouldn't be treated like pawns or objects in some twisted game. We have to think about the long-term effects on these little ones and their families... it's just not right 🀯
