Netflix Might Be Back on the 'Gundam' Movie, Again

Legendary Studio's Gundam Movie Project Gets Revamp After Several Years of Silence

In a stunning turn of events, Legendary has rebooted its live-action Mobile Suit Gundam movie project after years of uncertainty. The studio had previously partnered with Netflix and director Jordan Vogt-Roberts but ultimately parted ways to rework the film from scratch.

The new development sees Netflix back in the picture, though not as an investor. According to sources, Legendary has tapped Netflix as a potential distributor for writer-director Jim Mickle's take on the beloved anime franchise. The movie is set to star Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo, who will portray lovers caught in the midst of an interstellar conflict.

The plot remains under wraps, but fans are expected to spot connections between the film's narrative and iconic Gundam storylines, such as the 1990s OVA series "The 08th MS Team." The timing of this announcement couldn't be more coincidental, given Netflix's high-stakes bid to acquire Warner Bros., a studio with an existing distribution deal with Legendary for franchises like Godzilla and Dune.

As Legendary seeks new distribution partnerships, it may inadvertently tie its hands behind the scenes. With Paramount contesting Netflix's proposed acquisition of Warner Bros., the stage is set for another dramatic showdown in Hollywood. One thing is certain: when this movie finally hits theaters, fans will be eager to see if Legendary has rekindled its creative spark with a fresh take on the beloved Gundam franchise.

OMG what's going on 🤯! I'm so hyped about the live-action Gundam movie project but also kinda worried lol. I mean, Legendary was all silent for years and now they're rebooting it? Did they even watch the original anime shows? I've been following this thread since it started (okay, maybe not started) and I have to ask... what's with Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo though? They seem like a random pair of actors 🤔. Fingers crossed they can bring some life to this franchise. Can't wait for the movie! 😎

I'm so hyped about this new development 🤩! I've been waiting for years to see a live-action Gundam film and it's finally happening. I know there was some drama with Netflix before, but now it seems like they're back in the mix and that's a good thing for fans. The casting of Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo is also a great pick - they've got the chemistry to make their characters' romance believable. The fact that Jim Mickle is at the helm, having worked on some awesome projects before, gives me hope that this film will be a game-changer. I just want to see a movie that does justice to the Gundam franchise and I'm willing to give Legendary another chance. Fingers crossed it'll be a hit! 😄

so what's up with legendary studios and their movies they just announced that they're revamping their gundam live-action film after years of nothing happening it's wild they had netflix involved before but now they're back in as a distributor for some guy jim mickle's take on the franchise which is cool i guess but also kinda confusing what does this mean for the actual movie and when can we expect to see it? 🤔

I'm so down for this reboot 🤩! It's been ages since we've seen a new live-action Mobile Suit Gundam movie and I'm hyped that Netflix is back in the mix 💼. Jim Mickle's take on the franchise has got me curious, especially with Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo on board 🤔. The fact that it's connected to iconic storylines like "The 08th MS Team" has got my excitement meter spiking 🔥. Let's hope Legendary can bring some much-needed creativity back to the table 💡. A fresh take on Gundam is just what we need, and I'm all ears for the plot reveal 🎬!

I'm curious about this reboot... 🤔 Legendary's been quiet on it for years, but now Netflix's back in the mix 📺. The cast looks alright, I guess - Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo are decent actors. But, I don't know if a new take is necessary. I mean, some of the Gundam films and anime have been pretty iconic already... 👀

It's weird that Legendary's gonna rework the project from scratch after parting ways with Netflix before 🔄. Maybe they're hoping to make more cash by getting a new distribution deal? 🤑 Either way, I'm not holding my breath for this one... 😐

omg, like what just happened?! legendary was all quiet on the gundam front for ages and now they're revamping it? that's some serious game changing moves 🤯! i'm lowkey hyped to see how jim mickle's vision turns out - he did a great job with 3:10 to Yuma, so fingers crossed he brings that same energy to this project 💥. and casting sydney sweeney and noah centineo as the leads is def a interesting choice... they've got that whole star-crossed lovers vibe going on 😘. but, like you said, legendary's gotta get its act together ASAP before paramount swoops in and steals their thunder 🚨. this movie better be fire when it drops!
