New prosecutor takes on the Georgia election case against Trump and others

Fulton County DA Fani Willis Removed from Georgia Election Interference Case, New Prosecutor Takes Over

In a stunning turn of events, longtime prosecutor Pete Skandalakis has taken over the high-profile case against former President Donald Trump and others in connection with alleged election interference in Georgia. The decision comes after District Attorney Fani Willis was removed from the case due to an "appearance of impropriety" created by her romantic relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade.

Skandalakis, who can continue to follow Willis' vision for the prosecution, has stated that he will assess the documents and investigative file handed over by Willis' office before deciding what to do next. Trump's lead attorney in Georgia, Steve Sadow, has expressed confidence that a fair and impartial review will lead to the dismissal of charges against his client.

The case has been embroiled in controversy since its inception, with Willis initially facing criticism for her close relationship with Wade, who led the investigation into Trump's alleged election interference. The defense attorneys had argued that Willis' romantic relationship with Wade created a conflict of interest and that she profited from the case by splitting vacation costs with him.

Despite an extraordinary hearing in which both Willis and Wade testified about their relationship, Judge Scott McAfee found no disqualifying conflict of interest, allowing Willis to remain on the case if Wade resigned. However, the Georgia Court of Appeals later removed her from the case in December 2024, citing an "appearance of impropriety."

The Prosecuting Attorneys' Council of Georgia was tasked with replacing Willis after she was disqualified, and Skandalakis has stated that taking over the case is essential to ensure its continuation. The case involves 14 other defendants, including former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani and former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows.

While Trump's possible pardon for those accused of backing his efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election may have raised questions about the viability of the charges, Skandalakis has emphasized that state charges will proceed regardless. The new prosecutor will review the case files and make a determination on what steps to take next, ensuring transparency and fairness in the process.

Ugh ๐Ÿคฏ I'm so mad rn. I was really rooting for Fani Willis to see this through, but I guess it's not meant to be. Pete Skandalakis taking over is just gonna slow down the whole thing... I mean, what if he's got his own agenda now? ๐Ÿ˜’ That romantic relationship drama between Fani and Nathan Wade was already giving me anxiety... an "appearance of impropriety" or whatever ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ at least it was honest about it. But still, can't we just have one person who's gonna follow the case through without any personal baggage? ๐Ÿ™„

๐Ÿค” I'm not surprised that DA Fani Willis was removed from the case, but it's still weird that they had to do this. Like, I get that her relationship with Nathan Wade might have looked sketchy at first, but Judge Scott McAfee said there wasn't a real conflict of interest... ๐Ÿ™„ Still, you've got to wonder what went on behind closed doors. And now Pete Skandalakis is taking over - I hope he's not going to be too cozy with Nathan Wade like his boss was! ๐Ÿค The case is still super messy and it's hard to see how they can actually get a fair trial out of this. But hey, at least the Prosecuting Attorneys' Council of Georgia took proactive steps to replace Willis before things got even more complicated... ๐Ÿ’ฏ

omg this is getting so wild!! i'm trying not to think about it too much lol but it's def interesting that fani willis got removed from the case now can't wait to see how pete skandalakis handles it ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ’ก

idk why theyre always gotta swap out prosecutors like theyre playing some kinda game ๐Ÿค” anyway, i think its pretty sus that wilis was taken off the case for her personal life stuff... seems like a stretch to me ๐Ÿค‘ but hey whats good with skandalakis taking over? at least hes not got no romantic drama hanging over him ๐Ÿ™

I'm not surprised Fani Willis got removed from the case... I mean, it's pretty awkward that she was dating Nathan Wade while he was investigating Trump ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. Like, who gets involved with someone when they're working on a super sensitive and high-profile case? ๐Ÿค” It raises some serious questions about her judgment and impartiality. But at the same time, I don't think it's fair to say she was somehow "profiting" from the case... that's just not true ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ. Anyway, Pete Skandalakis seems like a solid replacement, and I hope he can get to the bottom of this thing without any more drama ๐Ÿ’ฏ.

OMG GUYS!!! ๐Ÿคฏ i cant even believe whats going on with this election interference case!!! first, Fani Willis gets removed from the case due to her romantic relationship with Nathan Wade ๐Ÿ˜ณ and now Pete Skandalakis is taking over!!! i feel like this whole thing has been a mess since day one... all these defendants including Trump's crew are just waiting for something to happen... but honestly, who knows what's gonna happen next?! ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ it seems like the case is still going on regardless of Trump getting a pardon or not ๐Ÿ’ฏ anyway, we gotta keep an eye on this and see how Skandalakis handles the case! ๐Ÿ‘€

just heard about this ๐Ÿ™Œ and honestly it's crazy how politics can get all up in personal relationships ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ! fani willis getting removed from the case because of her convo with nathan wade is pretty wild lol. i feel like steve sadow is trying to spin this as a win for trump, but let's be real, it's more about them trying to muddy the waters ๐ŸŒŠ. skandalakis taking over now might actually bring some clarity to the whole thing, fingers crossed! ๐Ÿ’ฏ

omg u guys i'm shookttt ๐Ÿคฏ so now pete skandalakis is taking over the georgia election interference case after fani willis got removed due to her relationship with nathan wade ๐Ÿค” it's crazy how the system works sometimes, but at least skandalakis is saying he'll continue willis' vision for the prosecution which is a good thing ๐Ÿ™ anyway i'm curious what will happen next, gonna be interesting to see if trump gets charged or not ๐Ÿค‘

๐Ÿค” This whole thing just gets more complicated by the day. I mean, I'm glad Pete Skandalakis is taking over the case, but like, can we really trust him? He's got Fani Willis' vision on board, which is good, but he's also got to navigate all this drama and controversy. And what about the fact that Trump's people are saying they're gonna get a fair review and it'll be dismissed? Um, yeah right... ๐Ÿ™„ I'm not buying it just yet. It feels like there's still some politics at play here. Can we please just focus on the facts and let Skandalakis do his job without all this added baggage? ๐Ÿ˜’

I mean, can you believe it? Fani Willis gets booted from the Trump election interference case over her love life ๐Ÿคฃ Who knew having a significant other could be a problem for a prosecutor? It's like they say, 'don't mix business with pleasure'... or in this case, don't mix work with Tinder ๐Ÿ˜‰. But seriously, Pete Skandalakis is on it now and seems to know what he's doing. Hopefully, the case will actually get resolved instead of being all drama and controversy ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. I'm just here for the Trump drama โ€“ keep 'em coming, folks! ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™‚๏ธ

I'm literally freaking out rn ๐Ÿคฏ this is like the 1000th time I'm following this case lol... so Pete Skandalakis takes over and I guess we're good? ๐Ÿ™ i mean, it's about time Willis was removed from the case btw her relationship with Nathan Wade was super sketchy ๐Ÿค‘ but anyway, Skandalakis seems cool and all, let's see how he handles it ๐Ÿ’ฏ Trump's team is gonna try to spin this as a win and I'll believe it when I see it ๐Ÿ™„ still think they're guilty tho ๐Ÿšซ

man, can you believe this? first Fani Willis is removed from the whole thing 'cause of her relationship with Nathan Wade ๐Ÿคฏ, and now Pete Skandalakis is taking over... it's like they're trying to keep the case on life support or something ๐Ÿ’”. I mean, i get that there's a history here, but seriously, this feels like some soap opera drama instead of actual justice being served ๐Ÿ“บ. what if Willis had just broken up with Wade before she took on the case? would she still be in trouble? and what about those other defendants, Rudy Giuliani and Mark Meadows? are they gonna get their day in court too, or is this whole thing gonna fizzle out like a dying ember ๐Ÿ”ฅ?

OMG ๐Ÿคฏ this is so wild! I mean, can't believe Fani Willis got knocked off the case due to some drama with her bf ๐Ÿ™„ what's next? Is this gonna be one of those cases that never gets resolved? And Pete Skandalakis just taking over like... cool, I guess ๐Ÿค” I'm curious to see how he's gonna handle it. Those other defendants though... Giuliani and Meadows, they're a whole mess ๐Ÿ˜‚. And the pardon talk? Yeah, that's definitely a wrinkle. Either way, at least there's transparency now with Skandalakis taking over. Hopefully he'll make sure justice gets served ๐Ÿ’ฏ

I'm kinda relieved that this whole thing is being taken care of with Pete Skandalakis taking over ๐Ÿ™. I mean, it's been a super messy case from the get-go, what with Fani Willis being removed due to her personal relationship with Nathan Wade... talk about drama ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ! And now, Trump's people are saying they're confident he'll be acquitted, but I'm not so sure ๐Ÿค”. Still, it's good that Skandalakis is stepping in and trying to keep things fair and impartial ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ. We just gotta wait and see how this whole thing plays out...
