Newcastle 2-1 Man City: Ruben Dias fumes over Harvey Barnes' push on Gianluigi Donnarumma going unpunished for winning goal

Ruben Dias was left fuming after Gianluigi Donnarumma was allowed to continue playing without consequence despite pushing him out of his goal in the build-up to Newcastle's winning goal. The incident has raised questions about the rulebook and whether officials consistently enforce it.

Dias, the City defender, felt that the decision not to punish Barnes for his push on Donnarumma was inconsistent with other contact incidents in the game. "I think we need to make it make sense," he said. "Because where's the sense in their player pushing our goalkeeper outside the goal? What are we allowing, and for how long?"

The City boss Pep Guardiola also expressed frustration after Donnarumma complained about being fouled by Barnes. Guardiola suggested that Donnarumma should have been stronger in the build-up to Newcastle's winner, adding that he had seen similar incidents before where the goalkeeper was disrupted at a corner.

Sky Sports pundits Micah Richards and Jamie Redknapp also weighed in on the incident, with both agreeing that Donnarumma did not deserve to be fouled for the goal. "I think he needs to be stronger in this particular moment," said Richards. "To be fair to Ruben [Dias], when you touch a goalkeeper like that you sometimes get those decisions."

The lack of consequence for Barnes' push on Donnarumma has raised questions about consistency in the rulebook, with Dias and Guardiola expressing frustration at the decision.

man I'm all over this 🤯. seriously though, what's up with refs not being able to get these calls right? it feels like they're just making it up as they go along 🙄. i mean dias is right, if Barnes pushes Donnarumma out of the goal, that's a red card no question ⚫️. but do they even care? it looks like they don't want to give Newcastle a penalty and cost them 2 points 😐.

i'm not saying Barnes didn't make a mistake either 🤔, but come on refs, get your priorities straight! ⚽️ we need better consistency in these games, or it's just gonna be frustrating for players and fans alike 😩.

omg what's going on here!! 😱 i'm still trying to figure out why Donnarumma got away scot free after pushing Dias outta his own goal 🤯 like, come on refs! don't you have a brain or something?! 💔 i feel for Dias, he's totally right - it just doesn't make sense that someone can push a goalie out and not get a yellow card 🚫. and what's with Donnarumma saying he was fouled by Barnes? 🤷‍♂️ it seems like an easy one to be stronger in the build-up, you know? 💪

omg i'm so sick of this refs making some crazy decisions 😩💔 Ruben Dias is right tho, it dont make sense when a player pushes the goalies outta the box and nothin happens to them 🤯 like wut r we even enforcer here? Pep says Donnarumma shouldve been stronger in that build up but i feel bad for him he was just trying to get back into position 💪😓 Micah Richards is right too tho, the goalies gotta be able to take a hit without complaining 🤷‍♂️👀

🤔 what's going on here? I mean I get it, pushing someone from behind is a foul, but come on, Gianluigi should've been able to handle himself better, especially when he's got two defenders to help him out 🙄. And what really gets me is that the ref just lets Barnes off scot-free, while Ruben Dias is left fuming 😡. It's like, don't they enforce the rules consistently? It looks like there's some inconsistency going on here 👀

🤔 I don't think it's fair to say that the referee was inconsistent here... like I feel for Ruben Dias, but come on, Gianluigi Donnarumma is the one who's supposed to be in goal, right? He's the one who should be making those decisions and not getting pushed around 😤. I get where Pep Guardiola is coming from, but Donnarumma did seem a bit weak in that build-up... like he should've been able to deal with it better 🤷‍♂️. And yeah, maybe Barnes didn't do anything super wrong, but still, there's gotta be some accountability, right? ⚽
