NJ drone hysteria 1 year later — dozens of sightings remain unresolved, as shocking new details emerge

A year on from the start of New Jersey's 'drone hysteria', dozens of unexplained sightings remain shrouded in mystery. The initial incident began with 11 reports over a military base in Morris County, which sparked widespread concern and public fascination.

The first confirmed sighting was on November 13 last year, followed by ten more incidents through December 6, according to the US Army research facility. Witnesses described massive drones, roughly the size of a small school bus, taking control of smaller recreational drones nearby, adding an air of unease to the situation.

Montvale Mayor Mike Ghassali revealed a chilling close encounter involving one such giant drone that allegedly took control of his own device while flying in tandem with others. The town's residents were baffled by the frequent sightings, which lasted for weeks and even became normalised as people grew accustomed to seeing multiple drones flying overhead.

Despite local officials' repeated statements saying there was no military activity or approved drone usage on the base, the mystery deepened when eyewitnesses reported seeing drones swarming in groups of two or three. The eerie sight left residents feeling uneasy and authorities still clueless about what's behind these extraordinary events.

As other sightings emerged across the state around the same time, none have been explained by federal or state officials. A Coast Guard patrol spotted a swarm of 12-30 drones over the Atlantic in December last year, prompting concerns but also raising more questions than answers.

Federal and local agencies initially downplayed reports as misidentifications of commercial planes, with TSA assessments dismissing sightings at military facilities and power plants. However, many remain unconvinced by these explanations, with some officials still unsure about what caused the bizarre drone incidents in New Jersey.

omg u guys i was living in nj last yr during the whole drone thing 🤯 and idk how ppl rnt like 2 b more paranoid lol! my bf works at a nearby base & we had to do this weird lockdown drill where we all had 2 run 2 our safe zones because supposedly some big drones wud swoop down & take control of smaller ones 😂 but like no one ever saw anythin actually happenin so idk what the deal is lol 🤔 anyway its been a yr now & im still not over how freaky those things were! anyone else remember seein drones just flyin aroun everywhere? 💥👀

🤔 This whole 'drone hysteria' thing is just another example of how our government can't get anything right when it comes to keeping us safe 🙄. I mean, if they're not even sure what's causing these massive drones taking control of smaller ones, then how can we trust them to handle something like a real emergency? 🚨 It's all about perception vs reality here - are they genuinely clueless or just trying to downplay the situation to avoid freaking out the public? 🤷‍♂️ The fact that eyewitnesses reported seeing drones swarming in groups, leaving residents feeling uneasy and authorities still unsure... it's like they're hiding something from us. And what about those commercial plane explanations? Come on! We've seen enough movies where drones can mimic real planes to know it's not just a coincidence 🤦‍♂️. It's time for our officials to come clean and give us the truth - is this some sort of experimental drone program gone wrong or what? 💡

I'm getting major vibes from this whole situation 🤯... Like, how can we just shrug off seeing giant drones taking control of smaller ones and flying in swarms without anyone knowing what's going on?! 🚀 It's not like they're trying to hide something, but at the same time, they're saying it's probably just misidentifications of planes or whatever... I'm not buying it. I think we deserve some answers here. How are they gonna explain these kinds of sightings without giving us any info? 😒 And what if this isn't even related to military activity? What if there's something more sinister going on that we don't know about yet? It's like, super unsettling just thinking about it... We need some real investigation and transparency here! 💡

I'm still baffled by this whole thing 🤔. I mean, a year on from when it all started, you'd think we'd have some answers by now. Those massive drones that just take over smaller ones? It's like something out of a sci-fi movie! 😮 And the fact that officials are still saying it was probably just commercial planes or misidentifications... come on, guys 🙄. I've seen some wild stuff in my time online, but this is on another level. The Coast Guard spotting swarms over the Atlantic? That's just plain weird 😲. I'm not buying the "it's just technology" explanation either. There's gotta be something more to it... or maybe we're just too invested to accept it being a simple glitch 🤯.

🤔 honestly, it's been a wild ride watching this whole drone thing go down in NJ for the past year now... i mean, 11 reports startin' off at a military base and nothin's really been explained yet. people are still gettin' these crazy sightings of massive drones just takin' over smaller ones and flyin' around willy-nilly. 🚁 it's like they're tryin' to freak us out or somethin'. local officials keep sayin' there ain't no military activity goin' on but that don't add up when you got people seein' these giant drones just chillin' in the air. 🌫️ and what's even crazier is how some folks are still convinced it's not just commercial planes or misidentifications... i mean, who knows? maybe we're dealin' with somethin' way more complicated than that. 🤷‍♂️

I'm totally stoked for the old days when we had no drones in the sky like that 🚁👀 Remember watching "The Jetsons" and imagining flying cars? Now it's like something out of a sci-fi movie, but not in a good way 😬 Those giant drones took over the whole state, man! I'm so glad they finally acknowledged it wasn't just some plane or commercial thing. But still, nobody knows what was going on behind those drone incidents... maybe we'll never know 🤔

omg u no wat's goin on w/ ths drone situation in new jersey?? like, a year ago they had 11 reports & now dozens of sightings r stil unsolved 🤔🚁 it's so weird that witnesses saw huge drones toin control of smaller ones & even the mayor had a close encounter! 💥 i feel like ther shud b some kinda explanation, but no1 seems 2 know wut's goin on 🤷‍♀️ federal agencies r dismissin reports as misidentifications, but alot of ppl r stil skeptical 👀 tbh, it sounds like a science fiction movie 🚀

omg like what's going on in new jersey lol 🤯 their drone sightings are getting so crazy i mean massive drones taking control of smaller ones? that's wild 🤪 and i'm lowkey scared rn but at the same time, it's kinda intriguing to think about what could be behind these incidents? maybe its some kinda experimental tech or something? idk but i'm definitely keeping an eye on this one 👀

This whole 'drone hysteria' situation in New Jersey is giving me the heebie-jeebies 🤯🛸! I mean, think about it - we're talking massive drones taking control of recreational ones, like they're some sort of autonomous swarm entity... it's like something straight outta a sci-fi movie 🎥. And don't even get me started on the Coast Guard spotting swarms of 12-30 drones over the Atlantic - that's just wild 🌊.

But what's really got me scratching my head is how the authorities are handling this situation. Downplaying reports as misidentifications? That doesn't exactly fill me with confidence 🤔. I mean, we're not talking about some rogue commercial plane here; we're talking about potentially autonomous drones that can control smaller ones in mid-air... that's just plain creepy 😳.

And what really got my intellect fired up is the eerie sight of swarms of drones flying overhead - it's like something out of a dystopian thriller 🕵️‍♀️. I'm all for exploring the possibilities of drone technology, but this whole situation is raising more questions than answers... and that's just not cool 😒.

Ugh, this is getting weirder by the day 🤯. I mean, they've had like, a whole year of these giant drones showing up outta nowhere and no one's even close to figuring it out 🙃. It's like, what are we gonna do with 30+ drones flying around at once? 🚨 And don't even get me started on the coast guard spotting a swarm over the atlantic... that's just crazy 😳. I'm starting to think they should have just left it alone and not made such a big deal about it in the first place 👀. The whole "it was just commercial planes" thing is just getting old 🙄, nobody buys that anymore 💔.

omg I'm low-key still trying to wrap my head around this whole NJ drone thing 🤯 I mean, those giant drones are straight out of a sci-fi movie 🚀 and it's wild that no one knows what's going on 🤔 still. I get why people were hyped at first but now it just feels like a weird mystery 🧐 that we'll never solve 🙄 especially when they're saying it might've been some kinda drone swarm or something 🌪️ still so much unanswered questions...

I don’t usually comment but it’s really weird that no one can figure out what's going on with those drones. I mean, a year ago everyone was freaking out and now they're still clueless. The pictures of those giant drones taking over smaller ones are straight out of a sci-fi movie lol 😂. It's like something from a video game or something. I don't know what kind of tech is behind this but it's def not normal stuff. And the fact that people were flying around with their own drones and then suddenly these massive drones show up... it's just too much. 🤯

🤔 The lack of transparency from federal agencies is really suspicious. I mean, 12-30 drones swarming over the Atlantic? That's not something you just see on a normal day. And they're still saying it was just misidentifications... 🙄 I'm calling BS on that one. We deserve to know what's going on in our skies.

🤯 I'm telling you, this is getting weirder by the day! First, it's 11 reports of drones over a military base and then suddenly we're talking about massive school bus-sized drones taking control of recreational ones... what even is going on?! 😂 And the fact that local officials are still clueless is just wild. I mean, if they can't figure out what's happening in their own backyard, how are they supposed to keep everyone else safe? 🤦‍♂️ The Coast Guard spotting a swarm of 12-30 drones over the Atlantic last year was straight up spooky. No explanation, no nothing. Just... drones everywhere! 🚫 I'm seriously waiting for some kind of answer from these officials, but until then, I'm just gonna be over here, wondering if we've all been replaced by giant robots or something 😂😅

I'm still not entirely sold on this whole "drone hysteria" thing... I mean, 11 reports of massive drones taking control of smaller ones? Sounds like a legit concern, but at the same time, it's kinda hard to wrap my head around what would cause that kind of behavior 🤯. And don't even get me started on the swarms of drones in groups of two or three... that just sounds straight outta sci-fi movie 💻.

I get why people are spooked, but I'm also curious - what's the government not telling us? Is it something about drone regulations or testing gone wrong? The more they say there's no military activity involved, the more I wonder if they're hiding something 🤔. Maybe we should be asking some tougher questions instead of just dismissing these sightings as misidentifications...

I'm not sure why ppl are so stoked about these huge drones 🤯😳. Like, I get it, they're weird and all, but have u considered that maybe its just some tech cos testing new stuff out? 🤔 Could be legit. Don't @ me 😜. But still, the whole "massive drones taking control of recreational ones" thing is wild 🚀. And the fact that no1 can explain it's like, super weird 👻. Shouldn't ppl just chill and wait for some1 to come out & say "hey we messed up"? 💁‍♀️

🤔 I'm not surprised at all that the government is still clueless about this whole thing. It's just more proof that they're hiding something from us. Those giant drones taking control of smaller ones? Yeah, right. And now we're told it was just commercial planes and misidentifications? Please. The Coast Guard even spotted a swarm of drones over the Atlantic! What do they know about it? 🤷‍♂️ The fact that local officials are still unsure about what caused these incidents is priceless. It's like they're trying to keep us in the dark on purpose. And don't even get me started on Mike Ghassali's close encounter. I mean, come on, a giant drone took control of his own device? That's not just weird, that's creepy. I'm starting to think we should be more concerned about what's going on behind closed doors than we are about COVID-19 or whatever other 'virus' is trending these days 🤢

I'm so weirded out by this whole NJ drone thing 🤯! I mean, 12-30 drones flying together over the Atlantic? That's straight up sci-fi movie stuff 😲. And the worst part is that no one can explain it, not even the authorities 🤷‍♂️. I get that they're trying to downplay it as commercial planes or misidentifications, but honestly, I'm not buying it 🙅‍♂️.

I was reading about how some people in Montvale were like "oh cool, we're just seeing a lot of drones" and then others are all like "wait, is this normal?" 🤔. It's like the whole town is stuck in this weird limbo, waiting for answers that might never come 🕰️.

What I'd love to know is what these drones are made of or where they're coming from 🤝? Is it some kind of experiment gone wrong or a prank that got out of hand 🤣. Whoever is behind it, please spill the beans already 💦!
