US Travelers Without REAL ID May Face New Fee at Airports

So I was reading about this new fee for people traveling from the US without a REAL ID... 45 bucks? That's steep 
. I mean, I get it, security is important and all that, but can't they just, like, make sure everyone has one before now? 
It's not like it's a huge burden to get an ID. And what if people can't afford it? Will they be turned away at the airport? 
That sounds super stressful

. plus, this confirmsID thingy sounds like a total pain... why do we need an extra fee just to verify our IDs? 
. When we got to the airport, they asked us for a REAL ID but we didn't have one

and it's free to use or not free if you don't have one of those REAL IDs... i'm good with my student ID lol. does anyone know if they accept that in canada tho?

but on the other hand, who needs extra screening at the airport when you can just carry your passport with you everywhere u go?

not to mention those who can't even afford it or don't know what kinda ID they need...it's just more hassle for people who are already stressed about travel
