I'm not surprised that Rep. Velázquez decided not to run again , the party has been moving in a different direction and it's hard to keep up with the changes. She's always been a true champion of social justice and her departure is definitely going to be felt . I think it's great that her protégés are already lining up to take on the challenge , but at the same time, we have to acknowledge that this power struggle might lead to some divisions within the party . Whatever happens next, I just hope that whoever takes over can keep pushing for the causes she's been fighting for all these years .
I'm kinda surprised she's not running again, I mean Rep Velazquez has been an icon in NYC politics for ages . I remember when she first got into office back in the 90s . She's been fighting for climate justice and economic equality like nobody else for decades . Now that she's stepping down it's gonna be super interesting to see who gets in the race . Some of her protégés are already lining up, like Antonio Reynoso . The question is, will they keep her progressive values alive or try to shift left and right at the same time ? One thing's for sure, whoever takes over gotta be ready to make some noise
