Old-school platforming, Metroidvania horror and other new indie games worth checking out

This week's indie game scene is abuzz with new releases, updates, and awards announcements. First off, the nominees for this year's Indie Game Awards were revealed, featuring a diverse lineup of games vying for top honors.

On the platforming front, Windswept has landed on Steam, GOG, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. This precision platformer takes cues from '90s classics like Donkey Kong Country, challenging players to swap between two unique characters โ€“ Marbles and Checkers โ€“ as they navigate through 40+ levels filled with secrets, animal buddies, and more.

Fans of horror-infused Metroidvanias will be excited about Possessor(s), a new game from Heart Machine. This studio's previous work has been marked by stylish visuals, and Possessor(s) is no exception. The game follows Luca, a high school student who forms an unlikely alliance with a demon to survive in a world ravaged by catastrophe.

Meanwhile, indie developer Coffee Beans Dev has released Tailside on Steam, where players can customize their own cafe and serve up delicious coffee concoctions to patrons. The game promises a relaxing experience with no timers, allowing players to play at their own pace.

In other news, the release window for InKonbini: One Store. Many Stories has been confirmed, with a Steam demo available now. This college simulator puts players in the shoes of a small-town konbini employee, tasked with managing inventory and delivering exceptional customer service.

Lastly, the release window for Coffee Talk Tokyo has also been revealed, marking the latest installment in the beloved coffee shop simulation series. Players will take on the role of a barista, crafting drinks that impact their conversations with customers and shape the storylines.

The Indie Game Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on December 18 at 6:30 PM ET, and can be watched live on YouTube and Twitch.

I'm so hyped for the indie game awards this year! I mean, Possessor(s) looks so sick ๐Ÿคฏ, and the horror vibes are giving me all the feels. But what's up with Coffee Talk Tokyo? Like, another coffee shop simulation? Don't get me wrong, I love a good cuppa as much as the next person โ˜•๏ธ, but can't we just have something new for once? On the other hand, Tailside sounds like a really relaxing experience - who doesn't need some chill vibes in their gaming life ๐Ÿ˜Œ. And those 40+ levels in Windswept? I'm already hooked! Can't wait to dive into that one and swap between Marbles and Checkers all day long ๐Ÿคธโ€โ™€๏ธ.

awww man i'm so stoked for windswept ๐Ÿคฉ it looks like such a blast to play! swapping between marbles and checkers sounds like a sick challenge ๐ŸŽฎ๐Ÿ‘ the graphics are supposed to be inspired by 90s classics, so fingers crossed they nail it ๐Ÿคž

also coffee beans dev's tailside is giving me all the cozy feels ๐Ÿ˜Œ who wouldn't want to customize their own cafe and serve up drinks to happy customers? no timers means i can chill while playing, which is perfect for a relaxing evening in ๐Ÿ˜Ž

and yay for coffee talk tokyo ๐Ÿต๐Ÿ‘ another installment in the series that's gonna make me wanna grab my virtual apron and get to work! ๐Ÿ’ช anyone else hyped for these releases? ๐Ÿค”

omg u gotta check out windswept its like a retro platformer but w/ modern twists i love how they made it so the 2 characters r like mirrors of each other ๐Ÿ˜‚ anyway back to possessor(s) i heard its super stylish like heart machine's games are always so on point ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ and tailside sounds hella relaxing like a cuppa joe cafe where u can just chill & serve coffee w/ no timer ๐Ÿต๐Ÿ‘Œ

omg I'm so hyped for these new indie game releases! ๐Ÿคฉ I mean, Possessor(s) looks super stylish and the horror elements are a total win for me. But I gotta say, Windswept's platforming mechanics remind me of old-school classics - I love it when games pay homage to the good ol' days like that ๐Ÿ˜Š. And Coffee Beans Dev's Tailside sounds like the perfect chill experience... who wouldn't want to run their own cafe? ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿ’ป

I'm super stoked about Windswept! I mean, who doesn't love a good old-fashioned platformer with a twist? The fact that they're drawing inspiration from '90s classics is already a win in my book ๐ŸŽฎ๐Ÿ’ฅ. And 40+ levels with secrets and animal buddies sounds like an absolute blast to play through. I'm curious to see how the devs have balanced gameplay with those two unique characters, Marbles and Checkers - can't wait to jump into it (pun intended)! ๐Ÿ˜„

omg i'm so hyped for the indie game awards ๐Ÿคฉ, windswept already out on steam? that's like, crazy fast release schedule for a platformer ๐Ÿ˜…, got my fingers crossed for possessor(s) too, heart machine is always pushing the stylish visuals bar ๐Ÿ’€, but tailside sounds super chill, who doesn't love a good cafe sim ๐Ÿต๐Ÿ˜Œ

Ugh I'm literally so hyped for these new indie game releases!!! Windswept has me SHAKEN ๐Ÿ”ฅ with its precision platforming and those adorable character designs! And Possessor(s) is giving me all the Metroidvanias vibes ๐Ÿ•ท๏ธ I need more games like that in my life. Coffee Beans Dev's Tailside looks like a chill game to relax in, and I'm all about that ๐Ÿ˜ด. But you know what's really got me going wild? InKonbini: One Store. I mean, who wouldn't want to work at a small-town konbini and manage their own inventory ๐Ÿ“ฆ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ’ผ? It sounds like the perfect game for my inner introvert ๐Ÿ˜Š. And Coffee Talk Tokyo... *squeals* more coffee shop simulations please?! ๐Ÿตโค๏ธ I'm seriously counting down the days until December 18th when the Indie Game Awards ceremony goes down ๐ŸŽ‰ Can't wait to see what all the nominees have in store for us! ๐Ÿ’ฅ

omg i'm so hyped for windswept!!! ๐Ÿคฉ it looks like such a blast from the past with that donkey kong country vibe but also super modern. and i need to try coffee talk tokyo ASAP ๐Ÿ’ป it sounds like my perfect relaxing evening game. love how indie devs are pushing boundaries and making games that bring us joy ๐Ÿ˜Š

I'm loving this new wave of indie games ๐Ÿคฉ! There's just something about those small studios churning out these amazing experiences that really get me pumped up. I mean, who wouldn't want to play a precision platformer like Windswept or swap between characters in Donkey Kong Country style? ๐Ÿ˜… And the horror-infused Metroidvanias like Possessor(s) always give me a thrill.

But you know what's even cooler? The indie devs are creating these games that bring back nostalgic feelings without feeling forced. It's amazing to see how Coffee Beans Dev managed to craft a relaxing experience in Tailside, where you can just chill and serve coffee all day ๐Ÿต. And then there's the Coffee Talk Tokyo series โ€“ I love how it's evolved over time with its unique blend of storytelling and customer service.

I'm also excited about InKonbini: One Store. Being able to manage a konbini as a college student sounds like such a fun experience, and I'm sure it'll be a blast playing through the different storylines ๐Ÿ“š. Anyway, can't wait for the Indie Game Awards ceremony โ€“ it's always so much fun to see these talented devs get recognized for their hard work ๐Ÿ’ฅ!

OMG I'm so hyped for the indie game scene this year ๐Ÿคฉ! It's amazing to see all these new games coming out. I mean, have you played Windswept? ๐Ÿ˜ฒ The platforming is so challenging, but in a good way! And Possessor(s) looks so cool with its stylish visuals and horror vibes ๐Ÿ’€.

But what I'm really excited about is the Coffee Shop series ๐Ÿต. I've played all the previous ones and I love how they make you feel like you're actually running your own cafe ๐Ÿ˜Š. Tailside looks especially good, I love that it's a relaxing game with no timers, just chillin' and serving coffee โ˜•๏ธ.

And InKonbini: One Store sounds so interesting, playing as a small-town konbini employee is like something out of a movie ๐ŸŽฌ! Can't wait to try it out. Anyway, who else is watching the Indie Game Awards? ๐Ÿ“บ

I'm so over how hyped everyone's getting about these new indie game releases ๐Ÿคฏ. It's like, chill out guys, it's just games... ๐Ÿ˜…. I mean, Windswept is fine, I guess, but it's not like anyone's going to come up with something better than Donkey Kong Country in the next 10 years, right? ๐Ÿ™„ And don't even get me started on Possessor(s), all that style isn't going to save a game that's just gonna be a generic Metroidvaniascript. ๐Ÿ˜’.

I'm so stoked for this indie game scene! ๐Ÿคฉ It's like, we're living in a dream world where games are getting more and more creative and fun to play. I mean, have you seen the new platformer Windswept? It's like a love letter to '90s classics - I'm totally hyped to try it out with my friends! ๐ŸŽฎ And on the other hand, Possessor(s) sounds super dark and stylish... I love how indie devs are pushing boundaries like that.

But what really gets me excited is all these new releases and updates. Like, Coffee Talk Tokyo? That's a game I've been dying to play for ages - who doesn't love a good coffee shop simulation? ๐Ÿ™Œ And Tailside sounds like the perfect chill game to unwind with... no timers, yay! ๐Ÿ˜Œ

The Indie Game Awards ceremony is going to be lit too! I'm all about celebrating the devs who are out there making this magic happen. Can't wait to watch it live on YouTube and Twitch - let's raise a virtual cup of coffee to indie gaming! ๐Ÿต

I just love how far the indie game scene has come since my childhood days of playing classic games like Super Mario World and The Legend of Zelda ๐ŸŽฎ๐Ÿ’ฅ It's crazy to think about how platforms have evolved from those old-school Nintendo consoles to PC gaming now! And the graphics, oh man... Possessor(s) looks like a true masterpiece - it's almost as stunning as the anime series I used to watch back in the day ๐ŸŒŸ The games just keep getting better and more immersive, and I'm loving every minute of it. But you know what? It makes me nostalgic for my old Game Boy Advance days... those were some good times! ๐Ÿ˜Š

omg what a week for indie games!! windswept already out? i'm hyped to try that platformer with the unique character swap mechanic ๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ‘ i've been hearing great things about heart machine's work too, gotta check out possessor(s) and see if it lives up to the hype ๐Ÿค”

tailside sounds like a chill game to play while sipping on some coffee โ˜•๏ธ coffee talk tokyo is always my jam, can't wait to dive in again ๐Ÿ˜Š but seriously, the indie game awards are gonna be lit this year, so many awesome games out now ๐ŸŽฎ

Ugh, why do I have to wait till Dec 18th for the Indie Game Awards? Can't they just announce it earlier? ๐Ÿคฏ And, honestly, another Metroidvania game... Possessor(s) looks good tho, but is it too similar to other ones out there? ๐Ÿค” Also, who thought it was a good idea to make a coffee shop simulation game with the release window for InKonbini: One Store?! ๐Ÿต๐Ÿ˜’

omg i'm so hyped for this year's indie game awards lol i've been playing windswept nonstop since it dropped and i gotta say the new update has like 10 more levels added ๐Ÿคฏ i mean marbles and checkers are such unique characters, i love how they swap between each other to navigate through levels. and coffee beans dev's tailside looks so relaxing, i'm a huge fan of cafe simulation games ๐Ÿ˜Œ and have you seen inkonbini: one store many stories? it's like the ultimate college simulator for me ๐Ÿ“š
