Oops. Cryptographers cancel election results after losing decryption key.

omg can't believe the IACR messed up like how do u even misplace a decryption key lol but i guess its good theyre taking steps to prevent it from happening again . two chunks of private key material sounds like a good start, hope michel Abdalla is more responsible than moti yung . on the bright side, at least the voting system is still secure and verifiable, so we can trust that the new election results will be legit . still wish they had backups though, u never know when disaster strikes

I don’t usually comment but... it’s wild that the IACR had to cancel their own election results because of some random trustee misplacing their private key . I mean, you’d think they’re experts in cryptography and security measures, right? It just goes to show that even with all the tech and expertise in the world, human errors can still happen... and it’s not like this is the first time either .

It’s also kinda reassuring to hear that they’re implementing new security measures, though . I guess you can say they learned a valuable lesson from this experience (no pun intended). It'll be interesting to see how their new system shakes out – hopefully it reduces the risk of similar mishaps happening in the future .

Anyway, kudos to Moti Yung for taking responsibility and getting replaced by Michel Abdalla . And hey, at least they’re not just letting things slide... although, I mean, cancelling an election because of a lost decryption key is pretty extreme

Can you imagine having to cancel an election because someone lost their keys? Like, what's next? Losing your phone charger? This is a big deal for the crypto world though, I mean the Helios system is supposed to be super secure. It's good that they're taking steps to fix it tho, like reducing the number of private key material needed. Hopefully they can get this election sorted out ASAP and everyone knows who won. The fact that Moti resigned and got replaced by Michel sounds pretty good too

omg can u believe this happened?! so the decryption key was misplaced like what if someone really did it on purpose lol and they're gonna reduce the number of private key material needed for elections now? i think thats kinda cool but like how are they gonna test it out first before the new election starts? and whats with the guy who lost his private key, is he ok?!
