OpenAI will reportedly start testing ads in ChatGPT today

OpenAI is set to test ads in its popular chatbot ChatGPT today, according to a report from CNBC. The company's "clearly labeled" advertisements will appear in a separate area beneath the user interface.

This development comes after OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently stated that the firm expects advertising revenue to comprise less than half of its overall earnings in the long term. However, it appears these plans are already underway.

Last week, Anthropic aired an ad during the Super Bowl poking fun at OpenAI and claiming "ads are coming to AI", which was followed by a more subdued commercial after the CEO made public comments calling out the campaign as "clearly dishonest".

When logged-in users opt for free access or a cheaper Go subscription plan on ChatGPT, they will see ads. Despite this, the company claims it will maintain user conversations from advertisers private.

The advertisements are designed to optimize messages according to user preferences without influencing answers provided by ChatGPT.

OMG 🀯 just saw that OpenAI is finally testing ads on ChatGPT!! I'm still trying to get my head around the fact that these ads will be clearly labeled tho πŸ˜‚ it's like they're saying "hey, we know we're making money from you guys"! And btw, I think it's kinda cool that they're optimizing messages according to user preferences without influencing the answers πŸ€” like, isn't that what AI is all about?! Anyway, can't wait to see how this whole ad thing plays out πŸ’ΈπŸ‘€

just saw this news about OpenAI testing ads on chatbot ChatGPT... i'm not sure if its a good thing or not πŸ€”. as someone who's grown up with the internet, it feels weird to see ads popping up where i used to just get info and help for free. don't get me wrong, advertising revenue is super important for these big companies, but at what cost? are we losing the magic of chatting with a robot that's supposed to be helpful? πŸ€–πŸ˜•

πŸ€” I'm low-key concerned about how far OpenAI is willing to push the boundaries of advertising on its platforms. They're saying their ads will be clearly labeled, but let's be real, people can get distracted or not pay attention πŸ“±. And what if those labels aren't enough? What if users just scroll past 'em and think they're part of the main chat?

It's also interesting that OpenAI is trying to optimize messages based on user preferences... sounds like they want to fine-tune the ads for maximum effectiveness 😏. But at what cost? Will we start seeing more 'sponsored' responses or even "paid" answers? It feels like we're walking a thin line between convenience and exploitation 🚧.

Lastly, I'm still waiting to see how this whole ad thing plays out in terms of user trust... if people feel like their conversations are being compromised, they'll likely lose interest and head elsewhere πŸ’».

I don’t usually comment but... think OpenAI is moving way too fast on this ad thing πŸ€‘. I mean, they just said ads won't be a big deal for them in the long run and now they're already testing them out? It feels like they want to get ahead of Anthropic's Super Bowl ad prank πŸ˜…. Don’t get me wrong, it makes sense that they need to make money off their popular chatbot, but can’t they just wait until the dust settles a bit? All this transparency about labeling ads is cool and all, but what about the implications on user experience? Will people even notice that there are ads when they're chatting with ChatGPT? πŸ€”

πŸ˜’ just learned that ChatGPT is gonna have ads πŸ“Ί... i mean i get it, companies gotta make a profit but still πŸ€‘ can't wait till AI starts giving us more accurate answers instead of being bombarded with ads all day 1️⃣0️⃣ πŸ˜’

🚨 Another AI giant getting rich off our data πŸ€‘. I mean, it's not like we didn't see this coming after all the warnings about Big Tech making bank off our conversations. And now OpenAI is already diving in with clearly labeled ads, just to make sure we know what's going on. Meanwhile, Anthropic tries to poke fun at them, but it's just a distraction from the fact that ad revenue is already on the horizon. πŸ’Έ This whole thing feels like another slippery slope – first, AI becomes more "helpful", then they start making money off our conversations... πŸ€–

OMG 🀯 I'm kinda hyped about this! Advertisements on AI chatbots? It's like, the ultimate next step in personalization! πŸ˜„ Can you imagine scrolling through your conversations with ChatGPT and getting ads that are actually relevant to what you're talking about? πŸ’» It might sound a bit weird at first, but think about how awesome it'll be when you see products or services that you wouldn't have noticed otherwise. Plus, OpenAI's promise of keeping the user conversations private is kinda reassuring 🀞. And let's be real, ads are gonna be super valuable for these companies in the long run! πŸ’Έ I mean, who doesn't love a good sale? πŸ˜‰ So, I think this is a win-win situation all around! πŸ’₯

So like, I'm not surprised OpenAI is testing out ads on ChatGPT πŸ€‘... it's been obvious that companies want a piece of the AI action for years now πŸ’Έ. The thing is, are we ready for our conversations to be monetized? Like, what happens if an ad comes up during a super personal convo with your bot? πŸ€” It's all about finding that balance between making cash and respecting users' privacy, right? And I gotta wonder, how effective do these ads really gonna be? Are people just gonna tune out or get annoyed? πŸ’”

so ads in chatbots now πŸ€”... like, isn't that just a great way to make those chatbots more 'friendly' for advertisers? 😏 anyway, i'm sure the whole "private" conversations thing is just totally legit and not at all an ad gimmick πŸ™„ i mean, who needs data protection when you can have more targeted ads, right? πŸ‘

So OpenAI is finally testing ads in ChatGPT πŸ€‘ I gotta say, I'm kinda surprised they're moving forward with this plan so quickly. Sam Altman's comments about ad revenue not being a big part of their earnings for long were pretty interesting... or maybe just a clever PR move πŸ€”. Either way, it's good to see the company taking steps to monetize the platform. But at the same time, I'm a bit worried about how this will affect user experience and stuff like that. Can we really trust that ads won't influence the answers? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ It's all gonna be interesting to watch how this plays out...

omg, i was wondering when openai would start making money πŸ€‘πŸ‘€ i mean its always been hyped up as a revolutionary AI tool but ads make sense now. at the same time tho, i dont wanna be bombarded with adds while chatting with chatgpt πŸ˜’ its gotta be clear that those are just ads and not actual conversations lol. how do they plan on keeping our conversations private btw? seems kinda sketchy πŸ€”

omg u guys i'm low-key freaking out about openai testing ads on chatgpt πŸ€―πŸ“Ί they're gonna display 'clearly labeled' ads below the ui... but like, isn't that just going to change the whole vibe of the app? and what's with anthropic airing a super bowl ad already? it's like, they're basically telling everyone "ads are coming to ai" πŸŽ‰πŸ˜‚

anywayz, openai says their ads won't influence chatgpt's answers... but how do we know that's true? πŸ€” i mean, we all know how ads work... and what if the algorithm is like, biased towards certain advertisers or something? 😬 that'd be a major bummer...

i guess it's cool that openai is trying to make it clear where ads are coming from tho... but ugh, now my chatgpt experience just got ruined πŸ€–πŸ˜’

πŸ€” This is just another example of how big tech companies are trying to monetize their platforms and push the boundaries of what's acceptable in terms of advertising on AI-powered chatbots. I'm all for businesses making a profit, but do we really want to see ads popping up during conversations that are supposed to be private? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ It raises questions about transparency and accountability.

And let's not forget about the competitive dynamics at play here. Anthropic trying to one-up OpenAI with an ad campaign that some might find a bit cheeky... is this just another case of corporations engaging in a battle for supremacy, rather than having a constructive conversation about the implications of AI on our society? πŸ“Š I think we need more nuance and critical thinking when it comes to how we regulate these emerging technologies. πŸ’»
