Pep Lijnders reveals Klopp persuaded him to take Manchester City assistant role

Pep Guardiola's assistant Pep Lijnders has revealed that Jürgen Klopp jokingly threatened to take the Manchester City assistant role if he didn't join him, a move that came as a surprise given the former Liverpool boss spent nearly 10 years working under Klopp at Anfield. The German was initially hesitant about leaving his former club but was won over by Guardiola's conviction and vision for the team.

Lijnders joined Guardiola's coaching staff in the summer and will be working alongside the Spaniard for Sunday's match against Tottenham, with the German looking forward to the challenge of beating their former boss. The move has sparked some nostalgia among Lijnders, who had three title battles with City while working under Klopp.

The Manchester City assistant praised Guardiola's intensity and game understanding, describing him as "intense" and "brilliant". He credited the Spaniard's ability to connect with his players on an emotional level for his success. Lijnders also acknowledged that he had concerns about leaving Liverpool, a club where he spent nearly a decade working under Klopp, but ultimately felt it was the right decision.

When asked about his return to Anfield next Sunday, Lijnders downplayed the significance of the match, saying it would be "special" for his family rather than himself. However, he remained focused on his goal of beating City's former boss and the team that had been their rivals for so long.

🤔 I mean think about it... Lijnders had a comfy gig with Klopp at Liverpool but chose to take a risk and join Guardiola instead. That says a lot about ambition, right? 💪 But here's the thing - sometimes we gotta step outta our comfort zone & chase something better. It's easy to get caught up in nostalgia for what could've been, but Lijnders is focused on the future now 📆. His decision shows that he's willing to take calculated risks & trust his instincts. That takes a lot of courage! 💡

omg can't believe pep lijnders just revealed that pep guardiola threatened to take his old job at liverpool lol what a move 🤣💥 anyway glad to see lijnders making it big with manchester city and now he gets to beat his old boss klopp that's gotta be sweet 😊👏

OMG 🤯 I'm loving Pep Lijnders' honesty about Jürgen Klopp's joking threat 😂! Like, I get it, Pep Guardiola is a total game-changer, but 10 years is a looong time to be with one club, you feel? 🙅‍♂️ Anyways, I think Lijnders made the right call, City's squad is so fire 🔥 and he gets to work with Pep on Sundays. Can't wait for that match against Tottenham, it's gonna be a real nail-biter ⚽️!

can't believe pep guardiola's assistant just spilled the tea about jürgen klopp trying to poach him lol, i mean i get it, who wouldn't want to join a squad with all those trophies? but seriously, pep lijnders seems like a cool cat, intense and brilliant is not wrong 🤔. and i love how he's being humble about his return to anfield next sunday, gotta respect that 💯. btw, have u seen the lineups for sunday's match against Tottenham? think man city got this one in the bag ⚽💪

lol @ Pep Lijnders being all intense with Pep Guardiola, sounds like a regular Monday 😂. But seriously, I think its cool how he was won over by Guardiola's conviction and vision, you know? And it's awesome that he gets to work alongside him now 🤩. Lijnders has had an epic journey from working under Klopp for years to joining City, it's like a dream come true 👏. I'm curious to see how his return to Anfield will go, but I think he's being realistic about it not being the main focus 😊.

omg did u see dis? pep lijnders is goin straight into the fire by joynin guardiola's team 10 yrs after leavin Liverpool an bein a part of the biggest rivalry in the prem 🤯 Pep Lijnders was hesitant at first but Pep Guardiola must've had some magic up his sleeve cuz he convinced him to jump ship 👍 now pepe is goin to be like the ultimate spy an infiltrate Klopp's old squad aka Liverpool an beat dem 3 times 😂 anyway, i gotta admit, its kinda sweet how Pep Lijnders credits Pep Guardiola with being able to connect w/ players on an emotional level 👊

draw a simple diagram of a person in a football jersey with a thought bubble 🤔
so i think its kinda cool how pep lijnders is joining pep guardiola at man city, like who wouldn't wanna work with the spanish mastermind? 😎
but what really got me was how lijnders talked about leaving liverpool, he had to weigh up the pros and cons of leaving his old team and boss, but in the end he chose man city... 🤝
i guess its also kinda interesting that Klopp jokingly threatened to take lijnders role if he didn't join, lol can you imagine having a boss who plays hardball like that? 😂
anyway, lijnders seems pretty focused on beating Klopp and liverpool, and i gotta respect that, especially since he's got some personal experience in those title battles 👊

omg I'm loving this twist 🤯 Pep Lijnders' move to Manchester City is super interesting considering his past with Klopp at Liverpool...like who would've thought Jürgen would joke about taking Pep's job 😂. but for real, it shows how much Pep means to people in the football world and that he's got a certain charm 🤝.

anyway, I'm hyped to see Lijnders bring his expertise to City alongside Guardiola...their dynamic is gonna be lit 🔥. and can we talk about how nostalgic this is for Pep Lijnders? like, having those three title battles with City under Klopp was everything 💪.

I guess what's key here is that Lijnders trusts Pep's vision and intensity to lead City to success 📈. and I gotta give it to him for being honest about feeling the doubts at Liverpool...it takes guts to make a move like this 👊.

man... i'm kinda surprised pep guardiola got to him lol 🤣 what a legend! but seriously, it's cool to see ppl willing to make moves and push boundaries. Lijnders' story is inspiring, leaving Liverpool after 9 years to join the team that was his former boss - that takes guts! 👊 on the other hand, i wonder how Klopp would feel about being threatened like that... not sure if he's a fan of Guardiola now 😂

man, this pep lijnders move is wild 🤯, i mean who knew klopp was gonna try to take lijnders' job lol 🤣, but in all seriousness, lijnders seems like a super professional guy and it's cool that he went with his gut and joined guardiola's team.

i think lijnders is gonna bring a new perspective to man city and help them win more titles, klopp was an awesome coach but sometimes you gotta move on and try something new 💪. lijnders seems like the kind of guy who's all about the football and not about seeking attention or glory, which is really admirable.

it'll be interesting to see how he stacks up against klopp again next sunday, i'm sure it'll be a intense match with plenty of passion on both sides 🏟️, but at the end of the day lijnders seems like the right guy for man city and i think they've made an excellent move in bringing him on board 👍.

imagine being in pep lijnders' shoes lol, one minute ur working with ur boy klopp at liverpool, the next u r taking over man city as assistant 10 years of history u gotta leave it all behind for a new challenge 🤯👍 but i think its awesome that he trusted his instincts and went with his gut, pep guardiola's conviction is what brought him to man city and now lijnders gets to be a part of it 🏆💪 its not just about beating klopp or liverpool tho, its about helping man city win trophies and making history with the team 💫

I'm not sure I buy this story 🤔... Pep Lijnders leaving Liverpool to join Pep Guardiola was always gonna be a bit weird. Like, didn't he just come from working under Klopp for almost 10 years? That's a pretty big loyalty to have, you know? 😐 And now we're supposed to believe that Jürgen Klopp "jokingly" threatened to take the Manchester City assistant role if Lijnders didn't join him? Sounds like a pretty strong bluff to me... 🤑

lol at pep lijnders goin to anfield next sunday 😂👀 think its gonna be a pretty intense match! anyway, i think pep lijnders made the right move leavin jürgen klopp behind, dont get me wrong klopp is a legend but pep guardiola is just that good 💪🏽 and lijnders seems like a smart cookie, he knew when to make a change. its cool to see him goin full force against his former boss, i wonder what klopp would say about it 🤔 anyway, cant wait to see how the match plays out!

I'm reading about Pep Lijnders joining Pep Guardiola at Manchester City 😅. So they're basically playing mind games with each other now. I mean, Jürgen Klopp jokingly threatening to take the assistant role from Lijnders? That's just too funny 🤣. But on a serious note, it's crazy to think about how much of a challenge this will be for Lijnders. He went from working under Klopp for nearly 10 years and now he's going to face him on the pitch with his new boss 😬.

I'm also thinking about all the title battles they had together at Liverpool... now it's like their rivalry is taking over to Manchester City 🏆. It's gonna be a tough match against Tottenham, but I think City will come out on top 👊.

omg can you believe pep lijnders just said he was won over by pep guardiola lol i mean who wouldn't want to work with the gaffer? 🤣 anyway its awesome that he joined up with his old mate and now hes gonna take them down 😂 like 3 title battles is no joke and now hes gonna make it 4 🏆

🤔 Pep Guardiola must have really won him over with that convincing pitch 😂, I mean who wouldn't want to work under a genius like Pep? His ability to connect with players on an emotional level is insane 🙌, it's no wonder he had 3 title battles with City while working under Klopp. Lijnders seems like a really down-to-earth guy too, I love that he played it cool about the match against his old club and said it was more special for his family 😊. Can't wait to see him in action this Sunday! 👏

I mean, Pep Lijnders' story got me thinking... what does it say about us as humans when we're willing to leave a place we've invested so much time and emotion into? Like, he spent nearly a decade with Liverpool, and you think that's just something you can walk away from? I'm not saying it's easy for anyone. But at the same time... isn't that what makes life interesting? The unknowns, the challenges?

And then there's this dynamic between Pep and Jürgen... it's like they're two sides of the same coin. Both are intense, passionate about their craft. I wonder if we can learn from each other's strengths and weaknesses. Pep Lijnders' praise for Guardiola's emotional connection with his players... that's something we could all learn from. Not to mention the nostalgia factor... it's like a reminder of what we've left behind, but also what's waiting for us just around the corner 🤔💭

omg pep guardiola is literally the best!!! i'm loving how pep lijnders has joined forces with him now, can't wait to see them take down Klopp next sunday 🤩👊 💪 it's crazy how lijnders went from being a loyal assistant at liverpool for nearly 10 yrs to joining man city under guardiola... he made the right call tho! lijnders seems so confident and focused on beating Klopp again, i'm rooting for them!!! 😍

I'm telling you, this whole Pep Lijnders thing is fishy 🐟. I mean, Klopp jokingly threatening to take the Manchester City assistant role? That's not something you hear every day. It sounds like an excuse to get back at his former boss. And what about all the times Klopp was 'won over' by Guardiola's vision? Yeah right, it's probably just a convenient story to keep people from snooping around too much 🔍. Lijnders seems like a smart cookie, but I think he's being played 🤔. The fact that he joined City in the summer and is now working against his old boss... there's gotta be more to this than meets the eye 🤷‍♂️.
