A man in his 30s is being held without bail at the Gwinnett County jail after a violent confrontation with police officers at a hotel in suburban Atlanta, Georgia. The suspect was shot by one of the officers and is expected to survive. Two officers were injured, including one who died.
According to authorities, the shooting happened when the officers went to question the man at his hotel room following an investigation into a report of suspicious activity. When the officers entered the room, the suspect pulled out a gun and began firing at them.
One officer was killed in the shooting, identified as 38-year-old Officer Michael L. Drenner of the DeKalb County Police Department. The other officer who was shot, but survived, is 28-year-old Officer Jaren E. Rogers of the Gwinnett County Police Department.
The suspect is being held without bail on charges of murder and aggravated assault, authorities said.

. Is there even any evidence he was "violent" before the cops arrived? All we know is what went down during that confrontation... sounds like a high-pressure situation to me 
. And another officer lost their life over this? It's crazy how quickly things escalated. I'm just wondering, did they try to de-escalate the situation first or did it all go downhill from there? Not trying to be all negative, but can we really say we know what happened here?
just another police shooting that leaves innocent lives lost or maimed... it's like they're training to take down people not suspects lol what's the point of all these surveillance cameras if we can't even prevent tragedies like this from happening? and now they're charging him with murder and aggravated assault, like he was just waiting for a reason to pull out a gun 
. I feel bad for the officers who were injured, especially Officer Drenner... 38 years old, just starting his career, and now he's gone 
. The system is just so messed up when it comes to bail, it's crazy that this guy can't even get out of jail on his own two feet 
. It's like, we need to rethink the whole bail process and make sure people aren't stuck in a cycle of violence due to circumstance 
. Anyway, my thoughts are with Officer Drenner's family and the Gwinnett County Police Department

. The fact that the other officer survived is a blessing, but it's still such a harsh reminder of how violent this world can be 
. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the suspect's recovery, hope they get the help they need

Newsflash: if you're in a hotel room and police show up, you stay inside until they leave or call them back 
. It's not that hard.
. I'm not saying the cops are off the hook, but let's not be so quick to jump on the "police brutality" bandwagon without hearing both sides of the story

... my heart goes out to his family and loved ones. I wonder if this incident was really necessary... were the police officers really prepared for such a situation?

He's got a gun and starts firing at cops who are just trying to do their job. It's not even like he had no reason for pulling out that gun - they were investigating some suspicious activity... seems pretty clear-cut.
It just makes me want to talk about how we can prevent these situations from happening in the first place... maybe more de-escalation training for cops or something?
hope the guy who pulled the trigger gets the help he needs 
. I mean, what even is the point of having a gun if you're gonna use it on cops anyway? 
It's like they're trying to make headlines or something

... but at the same time, I think it's super concerning that this guy was shot by the police in his hotel room and ended up being held without bail 
. But, on another note, I'm not sure how fair it is to charge this guy with murder and aggravated assault, considering he pulled out a gun in the first place 
i mean, i'm not saying the cops didn't deserve it, but come on, man. you pull out a gun in a hotel room with two officers outside your door? that's just crazy talk. 
. I don't know about you guys, but it's crazy to think that someone can go from being a suspect to being charged with murder like that. The officers did their job, right? It's a shame what happened to the other officer who made it out alive
